History: New Oceanus was originally colonized by a group of the Ratakan’s Infinite Empire. The small group of Rakatans brought with them human slaves for labor, for agriculture and for mining the rich veins of ore within the planet’s crust. However, with the fall of the Infinite Empire, the slaves revolted, killing off their captors. The human civilization grew rapidly in numbers, but the technological development was exceptionally low that when the Confederation discovered the colony, New Oceanus was over a thousand years behind in technical developments in comparison to the galactic standard. With the colony’s induction into the Confederation, Contegorian engineers repaired and modernized the settlement while civilian instructors brought the populace up to date on the galactic scene and started standard Confederation schooling for all children. Many on New Oceanus also joined the Confederation military, hoping to “sail the stars” as well as to break their isolation further and see the galaxy for themselves.
Role in the Contegorian Confederation:
New Oceanus is noted for being the major supplier of heavier metals, such as doonium and neutronium, to fuel the Confederation industry. Mole miners as well as automated mining droids from the galaxy have been imported to increase efficiency and production safely. Like Kashan, it is largely self-sufficient, and produces enough food to feed its populace and that of several other planets.
