=====Battles of Abregado-Rae=========First Battle: Declaration====
Following the Declaration of War against the New Order by the leadership of the Galactic Coalition, anti-war protests began to pop up across Coalition space. A hotbed of activity for the anti-war movement was the little-known planet of Abregado-Rae.
Calls for an end to the war intensified as the conflict began to escalate, to the point that the once-peaceful protests gave way to riots. Shortly thereafter the planetary government, bowing in the face of extreme opposition to Coalition rule, issued a statement of intent to withdraw from the Galactic Coalition.
This request was met with hostility from the Galactic Coalition, who dispatched a fleet of warships to quell the uprising. In turn, the Galactic Empire launched its own emissary, under the command of Captain Midias Raine, to see the peaceful transition of the world from Coalition to independent rule.
A battle ensued between the two space forces, with the out-gunned Coalition fleet taking substantial losses before finally standing down. The people of Abregado-Rae meanwhile had elected to withdraw from the Galactic Coalition and establish their neutrality. An Imperial landing force was dispatched to remove the Coalition troops from the surface, where they had no intention of giving up without a fight. The land battle was short lived, with Imperial forces quickly achieving victory, including the capture of Coalition Supreme Commander Joren Arden.
The first Battle of Abregado-Rae ended with the Empire maintaining its presence in the system, overseeing the transition of Abregado-Rae to an independent government.
====Second Battle: The Games====
With the succession of Abregado-Rae from the Galactic Coalition, the very principles of that government were shaken. Rather than accept the loss of the planet, though, the Coalition leadership made the bold decision to retake the world by force.
The Coalition sent Admiral Ralen MeVere to retake the system by any means necessary. This task MeVere relished, as he immediately set about using his capital ships to bombard the planet's surface from orbit. With the Imperial fleet having withdrawn to combat the evident threat of Coalition assault elsewhere, and with Abregado-Rae an essentially neutral territory, MeVere's fleet had little resistance in decimating the surface. The death toll from his attack remains clouded, but it generally accepted to be in the thousands.
Following his bombardment, MeVere landed his troops, who succeeded in retaking the planet, at great loss to the civilian militia who resisted his movement. The second battle ended with the Coalition ruling the smoking ruin of Abregado-Rae, their reputation on that world and beyond shattered.
====Third Battle: Thirteen Days====
The final Battle of Abregado-Rae was fought as the Imperial Fleet moved in to once again secure Abregado-Rae's independence. After the invasion by Admiral MeVere, Grand Marshall Simon Kaine issued an edict to the Galactic Coalition, giving them thirteen days (the same amount of time that passed between the first and second battles) to see the transition of power to an independent government and then leave the system.
The Coalition, however, did not leave the planet, and so on the thirteenth day a fleet led by Admiral (Brevet) Midias Raine returned to Abregado-Rae, to ensure that the forces of the Coalition left.
The battle was short and brutal, with both sides exchanging heavy fire before the Imperial force managed to get an upper hand, destroying a number of enemy ships and cutting the remaining vessels off from retreat.
It was around this time that the Coalition surrendered to the Empire, and so the final outcome of the battle remained undecided: Abregado-Rae was abandoned in the peace settlement, and awarded its hard-earned independence. In light of the Coalition's betrayal, however, the people decided to place their trust in the Empire, in the hope that the New Order would protect them from another assault by the Galactic Coalition.
