This particular Skipray Blastboat has undergone at least two major refits in the course of its existence. While it now represents an all-around improvement over stock Blastboats, the most notable modifications have been to its weapons systems.

The Blastboat sports a unique three-wing design, as opposed to the standard two wings, which allows for additional weapon mounts. Each wing tip is equipped with a forward-facing laser cannon and ion cannon, attached by rotating arms which allow for a rotation of 60 degrees in all four directions. The standard dual laser cannon has been replaced with a variable-output dual turbolaser turret, which has fire settings ranging in power from light lasers to medium turbolasers. The standard forward-facing proton torpedo launcher and concussion missile launcher have been maintained.

The nose-mounted ion cannon has been replaced with a modified medium turbolaser cannon. These one-shot turbolaser weapons are designed to store up massive amounts of energy over the course of several seconds, releasing a blast significantly more powerful than a standard medium turbolaser blast. A particular component within the turbolaser is designed to burn out after firing a high-powered shot, rendering the weapon useless for the remainder of the engagement, but preventing the turbolaser's destruction; after combat, the burnt-out component can be replaced, restoring the weapon to full use.

Most of the cramped craft's cargo space has been sacrificed to provide room for a larger, more powerful reactor. Even so, the vessel is plagued with power consumption problems, unable to operate all of its systems at full capacity at once. While charging the primary turbolaser to full power, this is especially true; while charging its specialized weapon, it generally suffers from weakening shields, reduction in speed, and a near-total loss of weapons' power. In the end, it is a versatile craft, not because of the range of modifications, but because of the vessel's ability to redistribute its available power so easily and efficiently.

Ok. I'll just use this as a soryline vessel, and if if I ever get involved in any fleeting threads, I'll just make sure this ship (and any other storyline ships I might have) is not around.

Is this a personal ship? If so, the R&D is not required nor requested. It's a plot device if that's the case; so no one wants to know, or care, how many bubble-gum canons you have.

Is this a general R&D planned for fleeting? If so, the no. This R&D needs to be reduced considerably. I'm not going to explain why, suffice to say; far more work went into the orginal and EU Skipray so the typical excuses of technological progression do not apply.

The idea was that the turreted variable turbolasers would function as laser cannons, until the main turbolaser was put out of comission and extra power was available. That way, the ship would have some form of heavy firepower at all times. The wingtip ion cannons and laser cannons would be used in an either/or sense: either I hurt something (laser cannons), or I disable something (ion cannons).

The wingtip weapons would be fire-linked, which isn't quite automation, but it does make things easier.

The reactor is supposed to be bigger. I removed almost all of the cargo room which was originally 20 metric tons, and I guess the back of the ship could be made a little wider to make room for the bigger reactor.

I like Skiprays, too.

2 Heavy laser cannons (turreted), 3 medium ion cannons, 1 concussion missile launcher, 1 proton torpedo launcher, 1 variable-output turbolaser, 1 modified medium turbolaser cannon

I think that could work better, but you would have to use either the heavy lasers or the turbolasers, but not both at the same time since the power requirements would be great. I think.

However, if you want to automate most of it and put in a larger power source in the back it would probably work :).

I like Skiprays.

Okay, I made some changes, and wanted to know what you guys think. I'm doing an R&D, because I'm wanting to get Jarvis involved in rps with other people, and because of the kind of character I'm trying to make him into, they could very easily lead to fleeting.

Let me know what you think, and if its still too much, I'll have to decide if I want to cut back more, or turn it into a purely storyline ship. Here's what I was thinking, though, when I did the weapons. There's a medium ion cannon in the canon (that's canon, not cannon) ship's nose, which I replaced with the medium turbolaser; while I realize a turbolaser is probably larger than a ion cannon, I thought the turbolaser could protrude from the ship's nose (so I'll add a meter to the ship's length, or something). The laser cannons and ion cannons are combined, like a dual laser cannon, except one barrel fires ion blasts, and the other fires lasers; since there are three wings on this Blastboat, and the ion cannons on the original Blastboat were wing mounted, I came up with three ion cannons, and three laser cannons. I got rid of the aft missile launcher and combined the idea behind the specialized turbolasers with the main turbolaser, which got rid of a lot of stuff, and made it a bigger deal to use the special feature, since it would bring the ship's main weapon offline.

I realize this R&D really isn't that big of a deal in the broader scope of things, but this is pretty much Jarvis' personal ship, so it will be with him almost everywhere he goes, and will be involved in almost every conflict he's involved in.

Anyway, that's pretty much how I rationalized everything. Oh, and I plan on editing the rp, depending on what everyone thinks about the revised R&D.

Yes, but as a personal plot device ship....

umm... sounds like a whole lot for a rather thin 25 meter ship...lol
