Union - Necropolis-class War Carrier

Necropolis-Class War Carrier

Union Military

Odd and very alien in design, the Necropolis-Class War Carrier is the Union's answer to its lack of military hardware in the time when most factions are now constructing new model warships for their fleets. The massive warships measure in at 3000 meters, the top and underbelly of the ship are both heavily armored, placing all gun implacements on inward facing portions of the ship. Each spike is equipped with its own clusters of turbolasers, ion cannons, and rapid fire point defense lasers, permitting the vessel the ability to cover its more vulnerable midsection. It primarily relies on its Scarab fighter craft however for dealing with smaller craft usually as its point defense guns prove to be somewhat inaccurate. Each Necropolis carries about 200 Scarabs on its fighter racks.

The midsection of the immense warship that holds the top and bottom portions of the vessel together is referred to as the Column. The Column houses the blast door sealed docking bays loaded with boarding and landing craft as well as the hull based fighter racks designed specifically for holding Scarab-Class droid fighters. Also housed at the Column bases are its powerful dovin mecha engines, a severe technological perversion of old Yuuzhan Vong biotechnology wherein the engines, while incapable of manipulating gravity for shielding, have the basic mathematical capability to focus on it, giving the ships the ability to push or pull on gravity masses even at great distances to propel themselves. Each Necropolis is equipped with six dovin mecha engines, making the vessels very manuverable, but with only about the speed of a Star Destroyer. The Column also houses a small fabrication facility connected to the docking bays, capable of manufacturing Scarab droid fighters out of available resources. This ability is only able to be used while not in combat as it is simply a method of replacing losses.

Each Necropolis is crewed and maintained solely by Necrotroopers, and in fact each ship carries two to three times as many Nectrotroopers than any standard warship of its size would. Most of the Necrotrooper population is stored in the upper and lower portions of the vessel in massive cryogenic facilites, protected by the thick armor plating on the topside and underbelly. Those Necrotroopers in suspended animation are intended for invasion and boarding operations, though some will be activated to replace crew loses if needed, but even then there are only so many Mark Two Necrotroopers on board.

The Necropolis is powered by two power generators, each based inside one of the column bases, permitting them to easily feed the dovin mecha engines the power they require to operate. Said bases also house large military scale shield generators, permitting total shield coverage for both portions and ensuring that if one fails, the other is still operational and shielding its half.

The vessel is designed to operate for long periods of time without drydock or crew replacements and therefore carries the necessary munitions and food manufacturing facilites to keep its Necrotrooper crews armed and fed by automated munitions facilities and protein synthesizers. All vessels are also equipped with a Tacticus war computer, a Union developed AI that manages the ship crew and sees to coordinating fighter formations during combat. When working in groups, its is typical for the Tacticus computers to communicate with one another, creating the capacity for more coordinated attacks with their ships and available starfighters. This communication is rendered incapable of translation by those they are facing due to the computers utilizing Unispeak datacores that are attached to their systems.
Equipment

Dovin Mecha engines:
A design based off of the mathematical principles developed by studying the actions of captive dovin basals; These engines have been developed to generate the same kind of motion inducing gravitational effects, permitting high speed and manuverability as well as a harder to detect method of propulsion as it is all primarily based on gravity wave manipulation which few ships often detect outside of hyperspace. No Union scientist has been able to figure out how to utilize the technology to be used for shields purposes like dovin basals are capable of, but they have gotten far enough to create a new form of gravity drive engine, six of which have been mounted into the spires of each Necropolis.

Tacticus War Computer:
The Union's answer to Necrotrooper and coordination as well and ship operations. The Tacticus functions as not the guiding AI behind its onboard Necrotrooper population as well as a battle computer, capable of strategizing and organizing ship movements, including directing the actions of its 200 droid fighters stored on its outer fighter racks. During combat, if more than one Necropolis is deployed, the machines will coordinate their operations, communicating in Unispeak, a garbled version of the binary language that no one outside of Union computer programmers and the computers themselves can understand or translate if equipped with a properly synchronized datacore.

Unispeak Datacore:
Permits communication in Unispeak, a language that constantly changes and shifts its word meansings, pronunciation, and linguistics. The only possible way for two vessels to communicate in Unispeak is for them to have synchronized Datacores of the language. Unless the datacores are synchronized, the language becomes unintelligible. These datacores are easily sychronnized though by Tacticus computers via transmitting their datacores current variable equation. Once that is done it is almost impossible to desynchronize the Datacores unless there is a power loss or purposeful sabotage.

Peregrine System:
Due to Union paranoia, certain vessels, like the Necropolis are equipped with what is referred to as the Peregrine system. The system is a security protocol the triggers if the ship is boarded and odds are against the defending crew. Once triggered, small thermite charges equiipped to all valuable dataholding equipement detonate, melting their memory cores and internal systems, rendering the computer completely useless. This system can also be triggered by the crew if the programming fails to carry out the procedure and also self activates when any ship carrying the system is destroyed, thus rendering all data salvage attempts useless.

Laser Gattlings:
A Belgardi technology, laser gattlings are a cylindrical formation of 5 barrels situated on a slightly overpowered traditional laser cannon, the laser gattling is a close defense weapon that can be used against both starfighters and missiles. The collection of barrels rotates at extremly high speeds, splitting the laser bolts into a multitude of bolts, though at only a fraction of the power. Laser gattlings are often used to through up waves of "flak" to shield certain areas of the ship.[/left

I'm pretty sure Telan used the Galactica for an R&D a while back, actually...

Well done! I plan to re-read this submission when time affords. Jesus, well thought out "Estro".

Just one question, who has dibs on the Battlestars? That's right bitches; the Gestalt Colonies.

Mwah!

Fuggin awesome R&D here.

Must you insist on posting in every single R&D thread?

Nice choice of image. Cylon Base Star from the new BSG series. I like, I like.
