Description: The Dauphin-class Fast Pinnace is an older design that predates the Clone Wars. It was SoroSuub’s ambitious attempt to create a fast and moderately armed merchant ship for traders that operated in dangerous outer territories. While it was certainly fast and reasonably armed for a civilian ship, the Dauphin did not sell as well as expected, because its main selling points took up a fair amount of cargo space; the CEC Bulk Transports, being nearly a third of the size of the Dauphin, could carry nearly as much. For this reason, it did not sell well with most corporations and traders, but it became a common and well-liked ship with less reputable groups across the galaxy, seeing use with mercenaries, pirates, and smugglers. Some corporations do operate Dauphin’s because they can effectively outrun and/or outgun some pirate forces. While the original Dauphin was produced by SoroSuub, shadowports and other small shipbuilders have acquired the plans and sometimes produce variants of the design at their own yards.

Still a good image - and a pinnace it is not - though cutter would be an equally fitting designation - or perhaps just runner.

Does it matter?

So long as it wasn't created by Noship?

It looks like kinda a Cardassian ship in reverse with a top mounted bridge structure. Still, very neat. Thanks Corise.

I don't think so. It is a mod for Star Wars Rebellion, but it could be based on a canon ship, but I haven't been able to find it then.

I am corrected. Indeed, the application of the term has changed since the days of Lord Nelson and great wooden galleons. Pinnace, however; will always be a 'romance' word for me, and thusly; reserved for those in-historic moments of future or past.

Pft!

Edit: And I still love the image. Is that canon or no? (the image for the ship, I mean)

Agreed. I didn't come up with the label for it as well, the Star Wars site that had it labelled it as a pinnace. It could be that it was called a pinnace because of its tender duties, and modern tenders within navies, which act as reasonably sized supply and maintenance vessels, (for example, the destroyer tender USS Dixie, was 530 ft long and had a 9450 ton displacement). That's my guess at least.

I freaking love that image. Wow.

EDIT: Even if, by the most forgiving definitions, it hardly ranks as a Pinnace

1 : a light sailing ship; especially : one used as a tender
2 : any of various ship's boats
