The Smarts-class Primary Command Sphere

Smarts-class Primary Command Sphere
Designer: Smarts
Diameter: 696 meters
Displacement (volume): approximately 180 million cubic meters
storage capacity: approximately 70 million cubic meters
Weapons: 240 point defense turrets, 40 quad laser cannons, twenty-four turbolasers, sixteen heavy ion cannons, twenty-four medium ion cannons, ten heavy tractor beams, sixty light tractor beams.

This vessel is the evolution of the Trade Federation Core Ship design that Smarts began his life in. The craft is compatible with any ships the original Core Ships could attach to. Externally, the craft can be distinguished from the older model ships by its large hangar bays, powerful tractor beams, updated and expanded comm array, newer, more powerful weapons, and a completely redesigned sublight system.

The ship's sublight drives are considerably different from the original Core Ship. The Smarts Sphere does not have a primary ventral thruster, but instead its ventral surface is ringed with high-powered sublight drives. With the addition of more efficient repulsorlift systems, the Smarts Sphere is able to land on planets' surfaces without the specialized landing pits that the Trade Federation vessels required.

Internally, the Smarts Sphere is radically different than its Trade Federation counterpart. The craft was designed specifically to house Smarts, so its primary computer is nearly three times as powerful with ten times the storage capacity as the original Trade Federation craft. At the heart of the ship is a reactor comparable to the main reactor of the Imperator-class Star Destroyer. The shields are also comparable to the ISD.

Most of the ship's internal structure is designed to be utilized by droids, meaning most of the ship does not contain an artificial atmosphere. The main docking bay, detention center, a guest area capable of comfortably housing two thousand organic beings, and the connecting corridors are the only areas of the ship that maintain a constant atmosphere, but most of the ship can be pressurized if the need arises. The ship contains its own small droid and starfighter factories, as well as numerous repair and maintenance bays, all of which are serviced by droid crewmembers directly linked to Smarts.

The ship maintains a constant force of 1,500 droid starfighters, 500,000 battle droids, and hundreds of small and medium-sized transports. The remainder of the vessel's internal space is designated for storage and minor docking bays.

Oh, yea. Jan, about me not having to post this stuff unless I plan to use it against a faction. I want to build up Smarts a little more before I decide who I want to side with, but I figured if I make some R&D entries while I'm working on my rp stuff, it'll all be out of the way when I finally do decide who to join. That, and it really is fun to see what you guys think of my ideas.

Volume of an Ellipsoid=4/3*pi*abc (a b and c all being width, height, length) :-)

lol it looks better though. I look forward to seeing you rp building it and using it

Okay, I think I fixed it. And my volume number is actually smaller than it should be, because I don't know the equation for finding the volume of spheroids. And thanks, Corise.

Smarts is basically right on the statistics. Something of a sidenote, but a core ship isn't a sphere, rather an ovoid; it has a 696 meter width, but it's something like 914 meters high (landing gear extended). Be advised that the large volume of the ship is a double-edged sword. It certainly has more room, but like already mentioned, there is a lot of maintenance cost to match it, because that's taking care of all 66,000,000 cubic meters. Not to mention that the mass produced by the volume is going to make it a rather sluggish and unumaneuverable vessel unless much of the internal space is dedicated to thrusters or some other maneuvering system.

I didn't really make this clear, but this isn't the ship he's using right now. This is something he plans to construct himself later, so structurally, it'll be completely different. It'll just have the same general appearance from the outside.

The original Trade Federation Core ships had staterooms for up to 60,000 trade representatives, according to the AOTC cross-sections book. My ship only has room for two thousand people. That alone gives me significantly more space to work with than the original core ships. The originals also had to maintain and house 200,000 maintenance droids, a number which is very much smaller for Smarts. As for the weapons, the reactor is considerably more powerful on Smarts next-generation core ship, which would allow for significantly more weapons than the 280 point-defense lasers the original core ships were equipped with. You've also got to consider that the Lukrehulk-class ships were converted to warships, so they weren't designed for combat. Smarts' ship will be.
And, the volume of an ISD is approximately 125 million cubic meters, making my core ship more size, though it is not as long. Spheres are the most efficient containers, meaning minimum length for maximum volume.

That being said, I will admit that I got a little too excited and put most of the numbers a little too high, especially the fighters, but I still don't think it would be unreasonable to have 1500 fighters within the core ship itself, if they were stacked kindof like battle droids stack inside of MTTs. Droid soldiers and fighters need a lot less room than people and manned fighters, and Smarts has had a lot of time to think about the most efficient way to store his droids.

I have to go right now, but when I get a chance, I'll redo the numbers and see what you guys think. Oh, and I realize that it's going to cost a ton of money to cram all of this stuff into a ship; I just wanted you guys to know that I haven't forgotten about that.

And thanks for the help.

Smarts, as long as you don't intend to fight a faction with, well, yourself, and you are just using it as a story ship and thats it, then you don't need to R&D it. You could simply put all of this into your bio or something. As well, if its a story vehicle only, then you can have it overpowered (so you wouldn't have to make any changes), but if you want it to be able to fight a faction, then you'd probably need to make it more reasonable.

Oh, and I've really been enjoying reading your story. Good work.

I believe these are the numbers for a clone wars era Lucrehulk-class core ship. This is only the command sphere which you say you are.

* Point-defense quad laser batteries (21)
* Assault laser cannons (48)
* Turbolasers (3)

I don't know how your fitting all those fighters and droids into something only 696 meters in diameter. To hold all those fighters and such you would need the rest of the command ship and not just the core. I like the ship, but it seem to have too many things for its size. As I say, I think if you want to add the ring carrier it would make most sense and give you the room you would need to house all those droids.

Also you have to think about maintaining all those thousands upon thousands of droids and fighters. They all need spare parts, fuel, tibanna gas, and the sort. So I guess if you add the ring attachment and rp everything out fairly there shouldn't really be a problem.

For record sake this is the armament of a trade Fed battleship:

* Ring carrier:
o Point-defense quad laser batteries (164)
o Assault laser cannons (472)
o Turbolasers (48)
* Core ship:
o Point-defense quad laser batteries (21)
o Assault laser cannons (48)
o Turbolasers (3)

Edit: Also these ships, with the ring attached, carried upto 1500 droid fighters and 139,000 battle droids. so I don't know how your fitting 10,000 droid fighters on it.
