TNO TIE Diablo
TIE Diablo Space Superiority Fighter
The TIE Diablo is the second generation of the Empire's most successful mainstray starfighter, the TIE Devil. Less than half the size of a traditional TIE fighter, the Devil was a remotely controlled fighter capable of extreme speed and agility far beyond anything that could be accomplished with a humanoid pilot.
With the EMPIRE Project moving into its second phase, Imperial engineers adapted that technology to their TIE Devil II project. With this craft, instead of human pilots slaved to the fighter, a cloned human brain pilots the ship directly. This means that, whereas the old TIE Devils relied on an Attack Sphere for support, the Diablo can be assigned to any Imperial capital ship.
The original TIE Devil design was extraordinarily modern, and thus the TIE Diablo improves little on that vessel. Speed has been increased to 200 MGLT, and firepower has been increased by some 7%. Physically, the ship is differentiated only by its new, black colour, the result of a layer of sensor-absorbing armour. While having little practical benefit except against visual targetting, the stealth armour makes the ship appear very intimidating. Too, the engine sound has been enhanced to produce a more potent screech in atmosphere.
The TIE Diablo exists in two variants. The first is known as the TIE Devil Mark II (or simply TIE Devil). It retains the original ship's interlink with a mothership and human pilot. The second is the TIE Diablo, as described, with a cloned brain serving as pilot.
