VIGO System:
The weaponry mounted on the Vendetta is military grade and often illicit in certain sectors of space. The VIGO system was designed to allow Vendetta's to operate in Imperial, Coalition and other government space without attracting undue attention. A majority of the Vendetta's weaponry (all but 20 of the heavy lasers, and the tractor beams) are retracted into the ship's hull or concealed with extraneous extensions of the hull. The idea is present the profile of a massive freighter (of an obvious generic quality). No two Vendettas have exactly the same camouflage system, in much the same way that no two Mon-Calimari vessels are exactly the same.

The VIGO system also attempts to shield sensor probes. When the system is activated, the ship runs off a small, non-military reactor, and various efforts are made to cloud the ships energy readings. When used in conjunction with the Deceiver Shield Masker, the Vendetta gives off the energy readings of a large freighter.

When the system is deactivated, the extraneous hull pieces fall off the ship and retracted weapons deploy. A separate, military grade reactor core takes over powering the ship.

Deceiver Shield Masker:
A Belgardi technology given to Black Sun via the Union and employed on the newest generation of Vendettas, it was originally created with the intention of confusing advanced targeting computers, though its primary purpose on the Vendetta is to hide the vessel's military grade shields. The Deceiver generates a thin, uniform layer of energy over the ship's primary shields. This layer is thin enough that standard weapons fire passes unaffected through it- however, sensor emissions bounce off the masker, giving the Vendetta a standard shield profile even if sections of the shield have been knocked out or reinforced with extra power.

Tightbeam Rentenna:
Another Belgardi technology, the rentenna uses a tiny, fixed, short-range transmitter, which can communicate with other tighbeam rentennas. Designed to punch through even the most powerful jamming it is heavily encrypted, and can send sensitive messages without fear of being intercepted. Not designed for long range communications, and non compatible with other forms of communication, the rentenna is primarily used for ship to ship communication between vessels in heavy jamming, but can also be used for covert communiqués, as the transmissions are nearly impossible to detect an intercept by conventional means.

Description:

Part of Prince Gorma's plan for the resurgence of Black Sun was the commission of a unique vessel to compliment Black Sun's trademark use of the deadly Star Viper starfighters. The Vendetta was that vessel. Powerful enough to fight the mainline warships of pirates and some major governments, Vendetta's are also versatile, able to act as cargo haulers and mobile command ships.

Very generic in their appearance, the Vendetta is designed to operate below the radar by disguising itself as massive freighter, and employs a long thin, cigar shaped body. Depending on the individual Vendetta, it may employ a set of wing-like extensions out from the center of its hull.

Build by standard shipworks through a series of shady, under the table deals, or more recently at the Union's shipworks at the Forge, Vendetta's are becoming more plentiful as Black Sun increases its income via criminal activities and with Union financial assistance. Still, the Vendetta is an expensive ship, and in its current state Black Sun cannot afford to maintain a large fleet of these vessels.

That should suffice....

Tir, the RP. You want to just use my one thread it's in?

#14 12:42am 12/02/06

I understood that we couldn't detect the other weapons. But the Diamond Borons weren't cloaked by the VIGO. But without the Diamond Borons the ship would be let to go free though occasionally one would probably get searched unless you arranged for all of that to not happen.

Contact me over AIM to get the address to send the money to.

sorry about the boron.

They shall be removed forethwith.

And Kracken, the idea of the VIGO system is to allow the Vendetta to operate without others knowing it is bristling with weaponry. :p

Well Marth, unless you had a Dominator or two to spare, I really doubt you could search, let alone sieze this thing, because I have a feeling anything smaller than that would get the crap blown out of it.

#11 7:34am 11/02/06

Great, now I gotta go over this R&D and find another way to identify it.

#10 7:16am 11/02/06

Funny thing, that. Since the emplacements are powered down and placed inside the hull, they're not exactly easy to pick up using standard sensor suites.

#9 6:02am 11/02/06

Umm, weapons emplacements and power signatures would give off a very good reading as to whether a ship is armed or not.

#8 5:47am 11/02/06

I'm scared...

#7 5:43am 11/02/06

I agree with what Drayson said.

#6 5:26am 11/02/06

I would like to know where the Union is getting any supply of diamon boron missiles... those weapons were very rare to begin with, and I don't believe the design was ever leaked by the Empire.

For a group to get their hands on a couple and jury rig launchers is one thing, but to design a ship with DBM launchers is another entirely... where did the Union get the technology?

Also, Marth/Cracker: if you'll note, unless the ship fires on you, you won't know it's as heavily armed as it is...

The VIGO system is interesting and innovative. Nice design.

Umm, any 1150 meter capital warship bristling with weaponry in private ownership would be siezed in Coalition space. Besides, it would actually be owned by a corporation of some kind, as a defense/enforcement cruiser.

#4 2:19am 11/02/06

The use of a Diamond Boron Missile System is highly suspect on a private ship belonging to a non-governmental group and would likely result in search and seizure in Coalition Space.

The Deciever has bene mounted on several pervious Belgardi Ltd R&Ds.

The Immolator and Maelstorm, if I recall correctly.

There was some discussion about it in one of the threads, but in the end it was approved (via the old system I believe).

The VIGO system is new.

In all respects its not really that complicated or unique. I just hate the idea of designing a stock vessel with nothing that makes it unique. Katch wanted a vessel for Black Sun, so I tinkered with his design and came up with the VIGO system.

Are these both new/unique to this R&D?
