Description:

At a first glance from a distance, the cockpit, fuselage, and wings shown from the front resembles the TIE Advanced flown by Darth Vader. However as the craft approaches it is instantly apparent that this craft is far different from that ship, and in fact resembles a Jedi Starfighter from the Clone Wars with a pair of TIE Interceptor wings attached. The TIE-2 fighter is similar in some respects to that description, but is far different from either the TIE Interceptor or the Jedi Starfighter. It is meant as an enlarged and improved version of the TIE Fighter, with the main goal in mind being of an advanced space superiority starfighter that could meet and defeat contemporary opponent's in one on one duels in space. The fighter is faster than the normal TIE Fighters, with a speed approaching that of the TIE Interceptor. The fighter's fuselage is vastly changed from that of the old TIE Fighter. The round ball cockpit has been stretched forward and compressed into smoother lines, with the after part also being stretched backwards to a degree. In the after part of the fuselage is mounted the two banks of twin ion engines, one above the other, and the engine compartments, as well as the shield projector and it's re-chargable batteries. Moving forward, next is the cockpit with it's windows, and then on the nose of the craft are it's sensors. Mounted below the cockpit in their traditional places are the two linked laser cannons. Moving outwards from the fuselage, the expanded wing struts contain the turbo-charged laser cannons used on the Hornet Interceptors. These laser cannons were, at the time of their creation, un-reliable at best, but thanks to advanced work on them, now have the ability to fire a steady stream of laser cannon bolts, but still can only fire for a full five minutes at best before requiring at cool down time of two minutes with the heat sinks installed. From the struts we go to the wings, where the outer-and-inner panels are devoted to the solar panels needed to power the starfighter. These wings are similar to those of a TIE Interceptor in shape, but in size are more in line with those of a TIE Fighter. The TIE-2 incorporates the firepower and survivability of a TIE bomber into a frame and cost effective package such as that as a TIE Interceptor. This starfighter will replace the TIE Fighter as a front line starfighter against the enemies of the Empire.
