Description:
Refined thanks to a new generation of Yevethan and Imperial engineers bred for Imperial loyalty, the thrustship will once again emerge into the galaxy. From the outside, the new ship appears very similar to the original thrustship, but infact there are quite a few changes to re-shape the ship to her Imperial suitor's needs. One thing that has stayed the same is the propulsion system, being of a complex design, and one of the main reasons the thrustship was now chosen to complement Imperial ranks. The four large engines are still in place, and in addition, the advanced hyperspace system used so effectivley against the NR at Doornik 319 is also in place. This system calculates and programs a series of micro-jumps with short intervals in between the jumps. Using this system, the thrustships were able to micro-jump in behind NR pickets and launch salvoes of gravity bombs before jumping again to behind NR lines and withdrawing into hyperspace. Putting aside the propulsion system, the armament has been changed, removing four of the eight medium batteries and upgrading their status to heavy grade to inflict more damage. Also are gone are the shuttle racks that would have allowed the batteries to switch positions. Added are two Ion batteries, also heavy grade, to add a bit of disabling power to the pure destructive power the thrustship contains. The other missile batteries had not been changed. Starfighter capacity wise, the old thrustships carried four hangars, each with a capacity for ten D-type starfighters. The new types have replaced one hangar with a stormtrooper barracks, and of the remaining three, two have been enlarged to add two extra starfighters apiece, thus the starfighter squadrons are reverted to normal size of twelve each. The fourth hangar now stores equipment for the stormtroopers, as well as shuttles and blastboats. Finally, the shield and hull ratings have stayed the same, the symmetrical shape of the thrustship actually giving them a boost to their shield power. Individually, the thrustships are not that powerful, but grouped together they are a force to be reckoned with.

True, they did. They were no match for the British, but they were the best in their area.

Yeah. But probably the best navy of the period was the Japanese navy. Having defeated the Chinese in the Sino-Japanese war of 1898, their navy consisted of very good ships, and their battleships were mainly British manufacture, their cruisers a mix, and Admiral Togo was a brilliant commander, their discipline was among the highest. They slaughtered the Russians in 1904-1905.

At that time, some Ami ships were actually of excellent deign. The Uss Brooklyn and Olympia, heroes of Manila Bay, were both superb ships with well drilled crews. The Ami ships, despite some eccentric designs, were quite aestheticly pleasing.
German ships of this time were struggling to be anything of note. The Race of the Draednaught propelled German warship construction to new heights though, it can be said, this was an unfortunate waste of Imperial resources. Though Admiral Graf von Tirpitz was a visionary, his timing was ill-placed in history.
British ships were truly queens of the sea.
Russian warships of original Russian design - produced at the Nevsky yards, their only yard complex - were burden with imcomplete material, incompetent crews, and tight schedules that could not hope to be met with any measure of accuracy. Ships in Russian service like the Imperator Aleksandr III and Suvarov were made in France excellent ships of themselves. They were themselves hindered by poorly trained crews and no gunnery practise.

Yeah. Well, everyone had their dis-advantages to naval construction in some form or another. Take for example what I call the best three in the 1905 book. The British ships were too light in armour and also had stability problems, the German ships pratically had armoured cruiser sized guns on their battleships, and the Americans had their secondary turrets mounted on top of their main turrets.
Oh and here is where I got the cruiser-gunboat designation from. In the last part of the German listings, there is a section called, Gunboats, etc., and the first listing designates them cruisers. Examples are the Geier (1891), Condor (1892), their stats being of 1600 tonnes displacement, armed with 8x4.1 guns, which was pratically standard scout cruiser armament of that time period. But there ya go.

Correct. At the time the Amis were fighting their civil war, European warship construction was actually a bit more advanced - see British Warships HMS Warrior.

Have to get a moderator to do the title change probably. And for the designation, I just borrowed it from the Jane's 1905-1906 worldwide guide to warships. It had that designation for a number of U.S. warships from the 1870s still used in secondary roles, I suspect ironclad ships originally constructed and used by the Union against New Orleans.

vB likes to do that, yeah.

I like the Pa'al reference - very classic.
However, those ships were not cruisers and gunboats - they often designated either as gunships, gunboats, or gun-cruisers.
Trust me on this one - I study naval history--ESPECIALLY from that era.
So about the title - it stillreads Aramadia

Yeah if I remember how to change the title. Remember the camp Pa'al survivors, like Sil Sorannan, where they suffered the greatest, and plotted their successful uprising?
Oh, used cruiser-gunboat designation. Like the large gunships of the 1870's/80's/90's.

Yes, but now change the title of the thread!!!
And there have been too many black swords. How about something original....
I would be all for the Kraken-class Light Cruiser

There, good enough for ya?

As a result of Imperial Pride and the degredations upon those Imperial soldiers captured by the Yevetha during the mentioned conflict, the name will be changed IMMEDIATELY
