*Deciever Shield Masker
*Laser Gattlings
*Tightbeam Rentenna

*Splatter Torpedoes

Tightbeam Rentenna:
A technology first implemented on the Punsiher Pocket Cruiser, then incorporated into the Immolator Cruiser, the rentenna uses a tiny, fixed, short range transmitter, which can communicate with other tighbeam rentennas. Designed to pounch through even the most powerful jamming it is heavily encrypted, and can send sensitive mssages without fear of being intercepted. Not designed for long range communications, and non compatible with other forms of communication, the rentenna is primarily used for ship to ship communication between Belgardi vessels in heavy jamming.

Laser Gattlings:
A cylindrical formation of 5 barrels situated on a slightly overpowered traditional laser cannon, the laser gattling is a close defense weapon that can be used against both starfighters and missiles. The collection of barrels rotates at extremly high speeds, splitting the laser bolts into a multitude of bolts, though at only a fraction of the power. Laser gattlings are often used to through up waves of "flak" to shield certain areas of the ship.

Deciever Shield Masker:
A device created with the intention of confusing advanced targeting computers, the Deceiver generates a thin, uniform layer of energy over the ship's primary shields. This layer is thin enough that standard weapons fire passes unaffected through it- however, sensor emissions bounce off the masker, giving the Maelstrom a standard shield profile even if sections of the shield have been knocked out or reinforced with extra power.

Torrent Communications Jammer:
Rather than trying to subvert or prevent enemy communications, the Torrent system tries to overwhelm their systems by sending millions of useless transmissions out over numerous frequencies and wavelengths. The Torrent's messages swamp most receivers, and is most effective against small capitals or fighters that cannot dedicate any effort to filter out the spam messages.

Splatter Torpedoes:
Designed to aide in the detection of cloaked vessels, splatter torpedoes are fired from taditional warhead tubes, but instead of high explosives are filled with charged particles that are easily detected by standard sensors. Fired in a pattern, or at areas suspected to contain cloacked vessels, the particles are monitored by the ships sensors. If they form around an area, and create a definite shape, when cross checked against visiual or other sensor readouts of the area, then a cloak ship can be "seen". The sudden disturbance of the particles can also be monitored to follow the "wake" of a cloaked ship as it moves.

Description:

The largest vessel designed/constructed to date by Belgardi Universal and its shipbuilding subsidiaries, the Maelstrom was designed to fill the void in the Belgardi line-up of capital ships. Over twice the size of the Immolator, the Maelstrom fills a similar role to the Imperial Reign Class Star Destroyer- a fleet flagship as well as a very competent warship.

The Maelstrom is the culmination of Belgardi innovations, incorporating previous Belgardi technologies and introducing several new ones, making it one of the most advanced warships in the galaxy. Protected by heavy shields, thick armor, a boosting an impressive area of weapons (including ten devastating ultra heavy turbolasers) the Maelstrom is designed to duke it out with the best ships the Empire, Black Dragon Empire, and Galactic Coalition have to offer. Due to its size and complexity, a very limited number of these vessels are likely to be constructed. Currently only one exists, the namesake of the class, which was financed by windfall profits from Belgardi's acquisition of Agro Incorporated.

Like all Belgardi models, Maelstroms are available for sale, though it remains to be seen if any market exists for such a large, expensive craft.

Of course, using it would result in swift action. :lol

But you can compare penis sizes with your Union members, I guess.

#31 1:49am 08/09/05

A good point Demos.

Perhaps, to solve all those continuity issues, such as the unresolved thread, and such, I will mention the ship being built at the Union's secret shipyards.

I mean, thats why you have "secret" shipyards right? To build ships secretly.

#30 11:09pm 07/09/05

Keep in mind, too, there is an unresolved thread between the Empire and Belgradi Inc. that takes place well before this on the IC timeline...

Though, for this ship to be finished now, it must surely have been under construction then.

#29 5:33pm 07/09/05

It is?? I have to question why we have not destroyed it sooner.

*makes plans to destroy secret shipyards*

#28 5:23pm 07/09/05

Actually, intelligence would not find out immediatly.

The funding for this vessel comes from Belgardi recent merger/takeover of Agro Inc.

And Pavo Prime already has military grade shipyards in place that have been producing large Belgardi vessels (such as the Immolator, which is as large as an ISD)

Granted, its not easy to hide the fact that such a ship has been built. I considered having it constructed at the Unions secret shipyards, but decided against it.

ANYWAY. I'm going off to write the necessary RP for it right now.

#27 3:01pm 07/09/05

Intelligence would find out - almost immediastely. A ship like this would require hitherto unconctructed shipways and a yard would have to be severely modified, the bulwark expanded. Funds would be channeled into its construction as well as resources - -it would be noticed.

*from the mind of Krak: damnit - I hate it when he has a point!*

But remember Telan, this is OOC here. We won't know of it's existance until they use it against us.

#25 12:16am 07/09/05

I am being objective, Mein Furher - I am aftr the resident Imperial-tech expert. Not a mod, but the going doctor on battleship technology tactics and design.

Other than those two things - crew and weapons - I am amenable to its deployment.

Though I repeat my IC warning that any production of the vessel beyond the prototype will be met with a swift Imperial reply

#24 12:12am 07/09/05

Down boys, down.

This is my design. :D

If the staff says that the ship has too many weapons, then I will reduce its compliment. Or perhaps increase the length to allow for more generators space etc.

Edit:

Re-read Telan's post. I agree the the large fighter compliment takes up too much space. It am reducing it immediately.

#23 10:50pm 06/09/05

Negative on the quad-batteries for missiles - that would still require a hideous ordance capacity and this ship does not look equipped to handle it - ie size.

Though I would be amenable to 20 dual mounts

#22 10:29pm 06/09/05

Yeah, the weapons outfit is a simple one. Use a large number of medium-cruiser turbolasers to wear down a target's shields, then get in a killing blow with the heavy turbolasers, punch through the weakened shields and score the vitals. But yeah a much smaller number of warhead tubes would be more suitable concerning their primary role. Maybe reduce to 10 Quadrupule tube launchers and upgrade them to heavy status? Ion cannons look fine, but to save space, maybe change those to twenty dual cannons?

#21 10:15pm 06/09/05

I can line with thatcrew number. Now onto weapons.

No problems with the Ultra turbos - or the turbolaser number. However, the turbolasers do eat up ALOT of reactor power. Now, as a dedicated warship, it would be built to compensate but given the Ultras and turbolasers themselves and laser gatlings to boot, I would have to the number of missile launchers would have to be reduced to under 10.

Look at the Astrus - she mounts what are considered primary weapons - the Super turbolasers and also the mani-guns - turbolasers. Gatlings.defensive banks and the rest have to be kept to a much smaller number since the guns themselves and the power systems are dedicated to feeding them. The weapon compliment would be possible if she carried only a dozen fighters and thusly did not have to give over space to fuel, crew quarters, repair facilities, et al.

I would suggest reducing the compliment of missiles.

Suggested change

10 Ultra-Heavy Turbolasers (5 Dual mounted bateries)
170 Turbolasers (75 dual Mounted Batteries)
50 Laser Gattlings
20 Warhead Tubes
30 Ion Cannons (Single mounted batteries)

Also - Imperial fighter wing - 6 suqadrons/72 craft
Imperial Assault Ship Wing *blastboatds - 3 squadrons/ 24 craft (8 ships per squadron)
