The New Order - General Fleet Upgrade
As the Empire continues to grow and thrive, the role of the Imperial Starfleet becomes more and more important. Although the Empire has managed to keep her fleets in working order, many older vessels are now showing their age. Vessels deployed in the earlier days of the Empire, while still expertly mantained, rely on outdated technology. Seeing that this could pose a threat to the Empire as her territories continue to expand, the Imperial High Command has ordered a full-scale upgrade of all existing Imperial vessels, to bring them up to a new standard in terms of onboard weapons, computers, and other vital systems. The plan calls for the retrofitting of some older vessels, and general upgrades on others. With a large upstep in Imperial production giving the Empire a surplus of working vessels, the Empire can begin to rotate older vessles out of duty and outfit them with new technology, as well as giving an oppertunity to train the crews with the new systems.Following standard military procedure, the Imperial Fleet will begin the process of refitting older ships first. Given the number of ships in the Empire, it is expected to take some time for a complete refitting of the Navy, and so vessels in priority sectors will be upgraded first.
This general upgrade will bring all levels of vessels in the Empire to the same level. Any Imperator Class Star Destroyers, for example, will be upgraded to Mark V designs at this time. All vessels will also be catalouged for possible further mantinence or scrapping. These upgrades will facilitate Imperial commanders by once again ensuring a consistent deployment of vessels across the Empire.
Starfighter compliments will also be addressed, with the Empire aiming to give its fleets a consistent force once more. Duty Star Destroyers of the Imperator and Reign classes will now carry one squadron of TIE Defenders, one of TIE Scimitar Bombers, and four of TIE Interceptors as a standard. Vessels assigned to more particular tasks may carry additional Defender sqaudrons in place of one or more Interceptor groups.

I meant like what Anakin said to Padme about "aggressive negotiations" meaning negotiations with a lightsaber in AOTC. I mean like hard voluteering enforce for what I said earlier, Grevious.

Perhaps if the Empire agreed not to build any new vessels for the remainder of the upgrade?

WTF???

I would've call it voluteering work with a lightsaber that Anakin likes those kinds of situations.

Right... okay...

*ahem*
change "slave labour" to "mandatory work initiative"
carry on.

I was making a joking response to ahnk's post, which I'm pretty sure was also a joke.

Seth: Yes, I know. It was a joke. That being said, TRF is hardly SW canon, and TNO is extraordinarily powerful for TRF... given the old Death Star rules, TNO was in a position to produce several.
I've rather thought of TNO at this stage as "as powerful" (in terms of galactic politics etc.) as the Empire in the OT...
Um, okay. You're all aware you're not making any sense, correct?
Ahnk: I presume you mean the Empire. Irregardless, however, you evidently haven't been paying attention to anything that's been said. That production will slow is a given. Saying "no more R&Ds" doesn't "reflect realistic economic ramifications". It says "here's an arbitrary condition for you". That's like saying that the US military has to chose to either upgrade older ships (not an uncommon practise) or research new technology. Given that production of new ships is down (due to a decrease in yard space), the Empire is actually SAVING money (because even a complete refit is cheaper than building a new ship from scatch). We're building less ships, therefor we have more money. Add to this that if we sell off the old technology to private governments/whatever, we're saving money compared to building ships.
Jan: Clearly, production of new vessels will slow because of less available yard space. That being said, given the size and nature of the Empire, production of new vessels is still at extremely high levels compared to, say, the GC.
Dolash: Huh? Why is anyone asking anyone for money? Anyway... as I said, compared to current production levels, we're saving money. The fleet increases in overall power for less cost than building new ships.
Seriously. Everyone is saying stuff, but no one seems to be taking in the economic reality of the situation, or the nature of the Empire. We control a huge ammount of the transfer of credits in the galaxy, we make extensive use of slave labour, and we have massive facilities soley for the production of war machines.
Considering that it's cheaper to upgrade a ship than build a new one, and that's what we're doing, I fail to see where econimics come into it at all.
#22 1:24am 27/05/05
Well, we could if we used an ingenious diplomatic system to our benefit.
Namely, if we tell them to (quote) '@#$! off' When they come calling for the money.
Really, the way I see it, the Empire won't start a war with an aging fleet just to get the money needed to upgrade the aforementioned fleet so that they'd be ready if they had to fight a war, namely because that logic appears circular enough to spiral on unto the end of time.
Anyways, you can go ahead and ask for the money IC, since IC you have yet to ask us and thus the Coalition has yet to say no.
Economically I imagine the Empire could pull it off, we just have to remember that in the near future they'll just be at maximum output - so if for some reason the Empire needs to spend money, or extend their resources, it should be harder for them to do so. It's seriously unlikely anything'll happen in the near future anyways.
#21 12:22am 27/05/05
That seems rather unfair...Obviously the Galactic Coalition shouldn't be able to build any ships at all during this period.
#20 12:05am 27/05/05
Okay,in light of this new information, a compromise:
This R&D will go through under the condition that, to reflect realistic economic ramifications involved, the Galactic Coalition shall be unable to research or design any further projects.
the Empire did build two Death Stars
Yes, but that Empire was much bigger than yours, ;)
#18 11:06pm 26/05/05
Oh, without a doubt. And as you may have noticed, there's been a relative lull in TNO's planetary takeovers of late (which is now starting to pick up again). During that time we have, obviously, been producing new warships. But territorially we are not expanding as quickly, and so we have surplus ships to deploy whilst older vessels are in drydock.
As far as money goes... the Empire did build two Death Stars. ;) You are right, of course. But in comparison to other governments, I'd say we come damn close.
One must also remember that while Defenders are expensive, we bely the cost with automation and the creation of massive factory complexes that can turn them out at an alaming - for our enemies - rate. Since the Empire is continually victorious, the coffers of independent governments that have been conquered find their funds channeled to the greater good.
Aye , and while this is certainly true, it should also be acknowleged, that TNO although the biggest faction in the galaxy , does not have 'inexhaustable' coffers, in all realism.
I think if you are about to refit your entire fleet, you do run the risk of someone being able to exploit it.
1) War effort. Upgrading entire fleets is an expensive business, and so is war, can't do everything at once without something suffering.
2) Ships in dry-dock. Ships that are being upgraded , more than likely (depending on how advanced their upgrades are) won't be fit for frontline action, if the need should arise.
Perhaps this is all moot, and even not something that could worry a huge faction like TNO, but if its realism we're going for, then I think this should at least be acknowledged in some way.
