R&D Question

What, exactly, happens when a group decides to scrap an R&D? Are all existing models of that ship scrapped, or is the group simply not allowed to produce any more of said vessel?

I would imagine the latter, but I don't want to take any unnessessary risks when assessing our R&D listing...

Yeah. Scrap R&Ds, gotta scrap ships.

Your point about realism aside, it would break the balance of the game.

then dont scrap any R&Ds if your so concerned with the realism of it. In this case, the rule works outside the subject of realism for smoothness of play.

You can't replace your losses. Realistically, an R&D project would never be "scrapped", it would be archived and one would simply stop building them. But even assuming the design was lost/destroyed/whatever, physical manifestations of the project would not simply "cease to exist"... and if it was, for example, simply an old technology that you had no desire to build, then there would be no reason to scrap it either.

Thats the way its always worked, whats the point in scrapping the R&D if you still have the stuff you built with it?

Why?
