Explanations
Ionic Shield
A defence mechanism designed for one purpose, the Ionic Shield allows a warship of considerable size to pass through a planetary deflector shield unharmed. Research into Ion weapons has shown that the frequency of the energy utilized allows the weapon to pass umolosted through deflector shields. This has now been applied on a ship level to let the Swift pass through planetary deflector shields. By creating a "sheathe" of ionic energy, the ship is able to slip through the shield and deploy its ground contingent. The technology requires a huge ammount of power, and can only be active for a matter of minutes before the power demand grows to great, and a catastrophic meltdown occurs.
Background Information
Developed by the Imperial R&D department, the Swift Response Carrier is the Empire's ultimate answer to planetary shields. Imagine, at the Battle of Hoth, if the Empire could have landed soldiers underneath the Rebel's field shield. Surely, the capture of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia Organa, and many others would have been assured.
Based on the hull of a Victory Class Star Destroyer, the Swift is equipped with the Ionic Shielding system, a hyperdrive motivator, sublight engines, and little else.
Stripped to its bones, the new vessel is nearly undefended against enemy attacks, and relies on its speed and agility to evade enemy fire. Luckily for her passengers, she is fast enough to outrun most anything powerful enough to touch her.
The Swift carries 14 500 Soldiers. The quarters are neccessarily cramped, and there is food enough only to last a standard month. This is accepted by IHC because the ship is intended as a fast response to a problem - either to land troops quickly or to respond to a terrorist attack. Incredibly fast at hyperspace and sublight speeds, the Swift can be loaded and deployed within hours from a major Imperial base, and arrive at nearly any destination in the galaxy within twenty-four hours.
Swift class vessels are designed to pass through planetary shields and deploy soldiers directly to the front lines of combat. They are unequiped to survive capital attacks, but can whether fire from most ground vehicles until their compliment of troops is deployed.
The vessel is a modular design, and the troop numbers indicated are those of an all infantry cargo. The ship is also capable of carrying a full mechanical division or half a starfighter wing (36 ships) at the cost of half its infantry support. Obviously, it can also carry two full mechanical divisions or a full fighter wing if it sacrafices all troop space. The ships will also be used to ferry humanitarian supplies and personelle to war ravaged worlds and other places of great need.
This modular design allows a small number of SRCs to quickly deploy a complete task force on a moment's notice to quell uprisings, stabilize war ravaged worlds, and of course to invade enemy worlds.
OOC Information and Notation
I fully recognize the power this technology has, but I believe it makes sacrafices neccessary to its nature. The ship is unarmed and undershielded, and though it has great speed it is easily destroyed by capital warships. However, the main reason for the design of this ship is not to gain an advantadge over other groups but to bring back into play ground battles. to often a single planetary shield means that no ground engagement will take place, both sides being exhausted of fighting after a fleet battle. With the ability to land despite a protective shield, I intend to make ground battle as much a part of planetary invasion as fleet battles.
I've left the R&D time blank as you may wish to stick in some extensions because of the "new" level of this technology. Cheers!

That is technically true, Ahnk. However, if I were to simply deploy the transports without fleet backing, I would have two problems:
I wouldn't have any possibility of reinforcement from my fleet, meaning I would need a shitload of these ships in order to deploy a significant fighting force. I mean, 15 000 troops might take a city or two, but to actually secure the planet I would need numbers in the middle hundred thousands, at least.
From there, assuming I did manage to capture the planet, I would still have an enemy fleet over my head effectively blockading the world. To actually "use" the planet, I would still need to break the blockade.

No Dolash. You simply put your fleet ahead of your transport and then drop it down. His fleet would need to enter the atmosphere to touch him, and then would have to get past his fleet.

Yes you would, because if you didn't then the transports would be shot to bits on the way to the surface.

You don't even have to defeat the fleet, though.

Doesn't seem like that much of a leap to me, it passes through shields, big deal. If all someone has defending a planet is shields then they should be prepared for ground combat. Plus if they deployed them in a rush towards the enemy they'd get slaughtered, what with no guns, so the enemy would have to beat the enemy fleet in the first place, as usual.
The only change I can see here is that once a fleet is defeated they can immeadietly attack the planet instead of taking out the shields, which when you consider how long it would probably take reinforcments to get there means its' usually going to cause no change to the outcome.

No how. I want added R&D time to get this past me. I'm open to the concept BUT it is a great leap up on technology, so it needs a great amount of research.

Cool, I've always thought that Ground Combat has become a little redundant!
APPROVED, with standard R&D time.
