Multi Track Shielding
Original R&D Description (Source)
Multi Track Shielding uses a dedicated targeting computer imbedded in the shielding system to track approaching enemies and calculate approximate damage. The system automatically them distributes shields for maximum damage resistance. Combined with reactive shielding, this system gives the ship an unprecedented edge in battle.
A Better Explanation
Designed to give warships the best possible odds of surviving enemy attacks, Multi Track shields make use of the Empire's Multi-XMAP computer systems and Battle Analysis Computer systems to accurately predict and respond to enemy attacks. By analyzing sensor data as its recieved, the system alters shield angles to offer the best resistance to incoming fire. For example, if fire it detected coming from directly ahead of the vessel, the shields will be angled to deflect, rather than absorb, as much of the damage as possible.
Background Information
Developed by the Imperial Department of Research and Development, the Thorne was to be the Empire's ultimate answer to the Rebellion. The Thorne is a mere 600 meters in length, but she serves only one purpose: the destruction of enemy capital ships, space stations, and other spacefaring devices. Bristling with weapons, boasting an impressive 18 MGLT cruising speed, and a .8x hyperdrive, the Thorne is intended to arrive, launch a flurry of weapons fire at the enemy, and hold them until further help can arrive.
Shaped like a blunt-nosed cone, the Thorne is able to bring all of her weapons emplacements to bare on a single target. With the weapons mounted in increasingly-large rings around the ship, at least one quarter of her guns can be fired against a target in any position (save for directly astern). The engines are mounted in the fear.
Several rings of manouvering jets allow the ship to spin easily on its axis and change direction in mid-flight, making it the most manouverable capital ship of its size in the galaxy. This is especially useful, allowing the ship to spin 180 degrees in a matter of seconds and launch its entire compliment of weapons against any attacker foolish enough to attack from behind.
Carrying no fighters or ground troops, and a light crew compliment, the Thorne relies on other vessels for fighter support and surface missions. That being said, her intended purpose is neither with fighters nor the ground. The lightly shielded Thorne relies on her speed, manouverability, and impressive array of weapons, to deliver a devestating assault upon enemies of the New Order.

There were issues with the "Extra Heavy" Turbolaser Cannon, which as you may have noticed is no longer on the ship.
