TFE R&D #3(HA-RT)

Heavy Attack Repulsor Tank

Length: 30m

Designer: Researchers on Gernon(moon, orbiting Farquak)

Crew: 8

Troops: 20

Shape: Sphere

Weapons: 2 Heavy Particle Cannons(turreted), 1 Anti-Infintry Cannon, 2 Double Laser Cannons(turreted), 1 Retracting Repeating Blaster Cannon

Firing Arc/Positioning:

Heavy Particle Cannons: On the direct bottom, 360 Degree Firing
Angle(180 each)

Anti-Infantry Cannon: Front Only, exact middle between the Heavy Particle Cannons and the viewport(On joint to lower aim and fire at infantry)

Double Laser Cannons: Side by Side, Absolute Top, can fire up and each one has a 180 degree turret (designed for anti-starfighter or airspeeder duty)

Retracting Repeating Blaster Cannon: Beside Anti-Infantry Cannon

Shields: 100 SBD

Hull: 75 RU

Speed: 100km/h (hovers ten meters above ground on usual attack runs.
In areas of heavy forest, or if one needs to get somewhere faster, it can achieve a flight ceiling of 50km above the ground. When traveling way above the normal height, the HA-TR usually engages it’s ion engine, to achieve as speed of 180km/h.

History:
The Heavy Attack Repulsor Tank, HA-RT for short, was designed for long range combat. It uses repuslors to fly, though on the back there is an ion engine, engaged if the HA-TR need to get somewhere fast, and it is significantly higher then the normal 10m above ground attack mode. In a combat situation, the HA-RT will be deployed first, to wipe out a lot of the enemies and a long distance away, while the rest of the defenses, usually SD-10 Battle Droids, AT-ST, AT-ATs and Speeder Bikes, deploy, and move in for close range combat. The Heavy Attack Repulsor Tank is the key to every long range defense or assault in the Farquak Empire.

Note for Lup: In realizing you don’t want 100 word R&Ds, I made sure this was like 300, give or take 10.

Increase the size and take out those torps, they wouldn't do dick.

After due consideration, I am removing the Turbolaser Pulsor, since I just read of the page again, and it says that the MAS-2xB was like 40m long, and mine is only 20m. Also, I didn't leave much room for a viewport or command area for the crew.

Here's the information for the weapon.

[quote]
No self-propelled guns were seen in the canon films, but the official literature describes one: the MAS-2xB Self-propelled Turbolaser. According to the SWEGWT, it is a self-propelled turbolaser which was designed for use as a siege weapon, to blast through heavy fortifications. The MAS-2xB is an enormous repulsorlift vehicle that is over twice the size of an Imperial walker, with massive 2m thick armour and multiple shield generators. It carries two turbolaser turrets and a quad-laser turret to defend it from attacks, and its primary weapon is a large turbolaser that has a maximum range of 30km (which is quite similar to the range of a real-life self-propelled artillery piece). Its energy output matches the output of one of a Star Destroyer's light turbolaser cannons, so it can easily blast through armour as thick as 20 metres. A turbolaser bolt wouldn't encounter that much armour if it blasted through one side of a Federation starship and out the other, so this gives us some idea of the power of light capital ship turbolasers. It also gives us some idea of the strength of capital ship shields, which can easily absorb hundreds of such blasts.

Naval guns in a ground-based weapon are highly unusual, and would be analogous to the huge "rail guns" that were deployed in Europe during WW2. The principal drawback is cost and poor mobility (the original rail guns suffered from the same drawbacks). The MAS-2xB's speed is inferior to that of an AT-AT walker, never mind the horde of light repulsorcraft or war droids that its enormous price tag could easily buy. It is only used if an army commander wants a dedicated ground equivalent of naval fire support.

Another self-propelled gun in the official literature is mentioned in the SWE, which mentions the Imperial "Floating Fortress". It is described as a cylindrical repulsorlift vehicle which is specialized for urban pacification rather than attacks on hardened targets. It carries twin-turret heavy blaster cannons, heavy armour, and sophisticated surveillance and targeting systems that can easily track and target multiple simultaneous targets from a single command centre. It carries a crew of four, and has enough cargo capacity to carry ten troopers, thus giving it the dual role of self-propelled gun and APC, although the cargo carrying role is clearly secondary. Unfortunately, the SWE does not elaborate on its range.

As in real life, some self-propelled guns are simply towed guns mounted to a makeshift vehicle platform. The SP9, for example, is a DF9 anti-personel towed artillery piece which has been fitted to a dedicated repulsorlift sled, which has a maximum speed of 60 km/h.

I don't think this weapon is used to be anything other than artillery or support. Fitting that to a mobile chassis would be @#%$ hard, extremely unstable and also prone to constant breaking. It would be, in effect, useless.

The MAS-2xB's turbolaser "pulsor" uses an amplification dish positioned around the beam, boosting it's optimum range to ten kilometers and maximum range of thirty kilometers. With an energy output that matches a Star Destroyer's turbolaser, the beam can blast through up to twenty meters of durasteel plate, although the energy demand is so great it can only fire once per minute. Pour rows of cooling chambers filled with meter-long cryogenice cylinders wrap the power core, the energy capacitors, and the pulsor itself to preven critical meltdowns during combat.

Just type up what it says in the essential guide and that should be more than enough to satisfy me.

Seth, I'll do the change after I post this.

The Turbolaser Pulsor is not an R&D. It was used in canon, I beleive, since it is in my Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology. Basicly it is a capital ship class turbolaser on a ground vehicle. It is ideal for delivering massive amounts of damage, and would work at an extremely long range, fitting the whole HA-RT design, long range cover fire/softning up the battle front for AT-ATs and other vehicles. Other then that, I can't give you much. It does take a long time to charge up I beleive, so if the staff wants, I can post charging in one post, firing in the next.

Explain the pulsor.

#3 5:14am 23/03/03

Hmm, I think 250km/h. is too fast, slow it down, to around: 150-180, and you'll get my approval.
