Design Information

Designed to be the 'ultimate warship' in the Home Defence Corps., the Star Avenger will take the place of both the Starblazer-class Cruiser/Carrier and the Liberty-class Frontline Destroyer as the fleet recouperates from the war.

A sphereical design similar to the Empire's Attack Class Carrier Sphere, the Star Avenger carries two dozen sqaudrons of Starfury Assault Starfighters - 288 ships, or eight sqaudrons of conventional TIE Series starcraft. The SATAP is also heavily armed and armoured, a tough, fast, and highly mobile vessel capable of wreaking havon upon enemy fleets alone, or with support.

While no longer than a Victory Star Destroyer, the spherical design of the Star Avenger allows it to carry much more in terms of weaponry, ships, and troops, than another ship of its length catagory. The SATAP can house, deploy, and support, three full divisions of Regular Forces, and one full armoured division.

Many of the principles and design elements of the Star Avenger come from the Liberty Frontline Destroyers, and as such the SATAP is a highly dangerous vehicle designed to inflict maximum damage on enemy forces with minimal harm coming to herself.

Due to the great mass of the SATAP, manuverability and speed are greatly limited. In essence, the vessel has the manuverability of a rock in space.

Design Notations: Speicalty Systems

Weapons

The weapons systems of the STAP are equipped with state-of-the-art targeting systems and are able to withstand most assaults thrown against them. Equipped with dozens of laser emplacements, the SATAP can stand-alone against most combat starships and even combined wings of enemy starfighters. Because of the success in weapons placement, the STAP can bring at least 50% of its weapons to bare against any one target.

The SATAP is also outfitted with DERs (Dedicated Energy Receptors) within each turret bank, which route out and target weak spots in enemy shields and hulls. These systems allow the ship to concentrate fire on the weakest portion of an enemy ship and destroy it all the faster.

Phalanx Anti-Missile Point Defence Gatling Laser Network

Designed to protect the SATAP from devastating volleys of missiles, such as those that the Rebel Alliance used to such great lengths in the Galactic Civil War to bring down Imperial Star Destroyers, the Phalanx Anti-Missile Point Defence Galting Laser Network, PPDAMGN, or simply Phalanx, is made up some 550 small, turreted light blaster cannons. These weapons are very able to pick out missiles and destroy them from long range. The Phalanx System reduces the percentage of successful short-range missile strikes to less than 20%, and long-range attacks to under 5%.

Engines

To increase the ability of the SATAP to operate unseen when it wishes to do so, the Engines have been equipped with a series of thrust dampeners and cooling units. These systems reduce the ion efflux to negligible levels and eliminate any trace of heat produced by the ion engines from scanners.

Life Support Equipment

The SATAP has been equipped with the latest in life-preserving equipment to protect the ship’s crew from harm. The experimental Anti-Depressurization System is the newest piece of equipment placed on the ship by LFX Industrial technicians. This system runs the entire length of the ship’s full, and is designed to prevent drastic depressurization and therefore prevent loss of life. When a hull breach is detected, an emergency atmosphere field will rise in the corridors at the ten-meter intervals on either side of the breach, thus keeping the atmosphere along that corridor intact, save for that ten-meter space. Unlike blast doors, these fields activate automatically and allow ships crew to pass through them (these fields are like those that protect starship hanger bays from space). This system goes further in being able to project a field across the breach, assuming that unit was not damaged in the blast that caused said breach.

Ion/EMP Protection System

Because of the threat presented by enemy Ion weapons and the EMP Pulse Weapon, which is growing steadily in popularity since the introduction of the EMPRESS Defence Station to the LFX Industrial Defence Network, the SATAP has been equipped with state-of-the art ion and EMP dispersing technology. The special ulithium wiring absorbs the energy of an ion bolt of EMP blast and flushes it out of the ship through the ship’s own weapons, meaning that when enemy vessels use ion cannons or electromagnetic weapons against the Liberty they are actually powering the ship’s own return fire. This system lowers the chance of a total systems failure after an ion barrage to 12%.

Stealth Package

The SATAP was designed to fill a multitude of roles. One of those roles was a stealth attack craft, capable of slipping into a system and inflicting the maximum damage possible. While it was impossible to hide the behemoth, advanced sensor systems make it extremely difficult for enemies to spot the SATAP before it is to late.

The ship is equipped with an outer layer of stealth ‘chameleon’ armour, which is designed to look like a starscape rather than simply a black spot in space. This makes the vessel more difficult to spot with the naked eye than even an all-black warship.

As mentioned already, hyperdrive and ion engines have been modified.

Negative matter deposits line the outer hull to prevent gravitational tracking of the vessel.

NovaTech XP-32 ‘Illusion’ Unit prevents enemy vessels from achieving an absolute target lock. This means that synchronized enemy fire is greatly reduced, thus causing less damage to the SATAP.

How big are starfurys?

Is that a nine day build... or the twelve day one...?

Bump...

#27 4:33am 12/04/03

Ok, fair enough...

Its just your wording there says it 'prevents', rather than, 'make difficult'...

I just wanted that made clear...

..and you've edited what we asked...so

..Barring any more concerns on Lei's part.... I'll give my approval.

Yes. And unlike the Twilight, the SATAP isn't invisible. The ion baffling essentially makes it more difficult to track, not impossible. It simply reduces the ammount of exhuast, not eliminating it.

hmm

..now I guess I am having the same concern here as in your other tech... I am of the school of thought that says, the bigger and badder the ship, the more chance it has of being detected... as for Ion traces etc... you do realise this is a 900m long ship, thats quite a exhaust there...

No... because when the bounce is reflected by the Illusion, the other ship's sensors would see several of the SATAPs all merged together... kind of like when you wave your fingers in front of a TV screen and they blur together until you can't tell them apart.

Sensors know what is going on when their waves bounce back... by speeding up the proccess they will have much better accuracy.

Uhh, no. When a computer has to scan, track, and compute a dozen thing, it goes slower than when it has to scan, track, and compute one thing.

What you're saying is like my computer going faster when I have more applications open.

You realize that basically you are speeding up their targeting computers?

Mirrors.

More complicated than simple mirrors, naturally, but it basically absorbs incoming sensor waves and reflect thems back outwards, which build up on top of each other in layers and leaves enemy sensors each trying to track them all, and confusing them.

And how does it scramble them?

Avatar
#18 1:47am 10/04/03

Basically, it emits a signal that scrambles the sensors of enemy vessels. It can't make the SATAP invisible, but the sensors having trouble determining what it is, and where it is. They can still target it visually, but they have problems with sychronizing their guns with their sensors.
