TJE R&D 1

Name and DesignationAnti-Cloaking Laser Identification System (ACLIS)

Purpose
To identify and track cloaked warships

Design Specifications
The ACLIS shoots out a series of thousands of little tiny lasers - totally invisible and totally harmless - in every direction which are more or less little lights. These lights go out twelve kilometers, and their distance is tracked by an ACLIS Sensor Officer.
When a craft travels in the path of these "lasers" the ACLIS Sensor Officer reads the disturbance and will be able to get a profile of the ship from that.
They are not difficult to make, and are even used in general stores (OOC and IC) and even regular doors and chambers.
Unfortunately the technology can only be applied to Imperial-Class Star Destroyers at the expense of twenty five percent armament and two percent speed.

Sonar would not work. Sonar, by its very nature, needs a medium to travel through. The lack of a medium, aka the vacuume of space, would prevent such a technology from working effectively, if at all. One could consider developing a similar technology that uses plasma as it's medium... Which is rampant in 'space'.
Also, there are literally billions of unknown elements beyond the reach of our human knowledge, many of which appear in large ammounts in the depths of the void. Gasses, solids, and liquids...
But trust me on the plasma.

lol From what I've read, the seismic charges shoot out like their own spand of oxygen or something like that so the charge itself can go off.
No matter, whatever the case is I saw it in the movies so it's good enough for me, lol

Yeah I know sound doesn't travel in space at all...that's why I'm confused how the Seismic Charges worked...they need sound as well...but ah well...you're probably right...it would cause more arguments than it's worth really.

I considered sonar.
But sonar requires sound. Sound requires oxygen. I wanted to use this sonar crap, but there's no oxygen to produce this sound in space.
While it can be argued that Star Wars does not exactly follow laws and physics and all that crap, certain people would jump down my throat for using it.

Again I say bah lol...oh well...sonar should still work against the other forms of Cloak (I think)
#30 9:34pm 22/05/03
The Shroud uses white noise generators...
#29 9:28pm 22/05/03
Bah...use sonar I say (Yes, I know sound shouldn't travel in space but then we come to the Siesmic Charge's that Jango Fett uses...oh well...sonar both should and shouldn't work...

How much work could it save...
Mwah! 5/6 keystrokes?
#27 12:27am 21/05/03
It would save you a lot of typing if you just turned that "Mwah!" thing into your signature.

Either way, keep me appriased...
If Chadd leaves, I suggest you shackle Ren and simply force him to take up the position... I mean, after all, Ren has clearly taken advantage of TRF time and time again. It's time he should give something back..
HEHE!!
Mwah!

I would but someone is harassing me over AIM about it and it's making me reconsider even being an R&D mod.

Chadd:
Are you still ambitious enough to meet the requirments?
AKA. Should this thread be deleted/removed? Or do you plan to battle it out in this very thread?
Mwah!
Jus' curious... ol'boy.

Thank you Kas for putting into words what I was unable.

First, I think you're going to need to have a separate method for detecting each type of cloak, which means you need to capture a ship first.
Second, it needs more wording, an R&D size, as well as a description of how long it'll take to install on an ISD. Does it have to be built with this, or is it a modification?
Thirdly, a different method needs to be determined upon. Light beams wouldn't work, because the cloak works by bending light - something that you wouldn't notice. I'm sure they've thought of the standard invisible spectrum broken beam thingamabob. We have those here, now, this is advanced tech...

It has lots of research and merit, I just did not include a lot of words, if it's words you want, give me forty-eight hours.
