Additional Information

Designed by a team of the most impressive scientists employed by LFX Industrial and developed with the utmost security, the Twilight project was begun during the opening stages of the Great War. A silent nemesis, the Twilight is outfitted with enough specialized stealth equipment to make even the scientists who designer her dizzy with wonder. Costing as much as a Victory-class Star Destroyer, the Twilight’s primary mission is that of intelligence gathering. Able to slip into a system completely undetected and stay for weeks – or months – at a time, the Twilight’s advanced array of sensors and scanners are capable to picking up hypercom signals, normal communications signals, and can detect hyperspace entries and exits from half a planetary system away. They can also detect fleets in transit, should these fleets be large enough.

A key weapon in today’s battlefield, the Twilight has begun entering operations as a stealth scout, sneaking into systems ahead of time and getting the “lay of the land”. In some cases, the Twilight has been known to utilize her weapons to destroy unsuspecting space defence platforms before an advancing fleet. Along with twin heavy laser cannons and a heavy turbolaser, the Twilight carries Decimator Missile Banks deliver fifteen missiles at once, but due to their nature the weapon can only be reloaded once. Lastly, the Twilight’s heavy ordnance launcher has a feed system that can load two-dozen missiles and can carry anything from explosives to EMP warheads to homing and tracking systems. These turreted weapons provide protection against starfighters and light transports, and can work with the other weapons to attack capital ships. Their ability to launch sensor drone missiles and tracking devices is also invaluable in intelligence-gathering.

The Twilight, while moderately armed, is not intended as a combat ship and, in normal cases, attempts to avoid combat at all costs. The primary mission of this ship is to gather intelligence and report back to her commanders. Due to her great cost and limited use, the Twilight is a rarity among the Union fleet.

Stealth Mode

The Twilight-class was designed as a moderately armed vessel capable of deep penetration of enemy space for the purpose of gathering strategic intelligence. Much of the troop and cargo space was removed in favour of a bewildering array of the most advanced sensors available to the Corporation. These ships are highly advanced listening and observation posts, capable of gathering and processing an enormous amount of data and transmitting it directly in real-time back to the Corporation via hypercomm. Each and every crewman aboard must pass rigorous tests to be considered for the duty, and some intelligence/ counterintelligence background is preferred in its personnel. Great lengths were gone to make this vessel as stealthy as possible; the most advanced cloaking device available was mounted. All power systems were shielded to prevent stray energy releases that might register on hostile detection equipment. The engines were modified to disperse and "baffle" their ion signature completely, and the hyperdrive is of an advanced design that eliminate the telltale gravitic and radiation bursts that accompany a hyperspace exit. Stealth coating on the hull itself simply adds to this array of anti-detection wizardry. Even when "running hot" and de-cloaked, the ship is difficult for enemy sensors to detect at long ranges; when fully cloaked and shut down in "stealth mode", it can simply vanish.

Stealth Features

Imperial Standard Cloaking Device with LFX RipZone Communications/Sensor Array

Gravitational Deposits along outer hull to render vessel neutral on Crystal Gravity Trap sensors

White Noise Sound Centre to render vessel invisible to sonar-based sensors

LFX chameleon armour to reflect starscape

Ion/Radiation Baffles to neutralize ion exhaust and eliminate ionic tracking

Hyperdrive Baffle to eliminate radiation on re-entry and departure

Energy weapons are concealed beneath the hull when not in use, lined with sensor-stealth material to eliminate any telltale energy signature

Stealth Mode Drawbacks

Due to power demands, speed in stealth mode is reduced by more than 50%

Due to power demands, the vessel is incapable of utilizing any of her energy weapons while in stealth mode

Advanced Features

The hyperdrive of the Twilight has been heavily modified to detect artificial gravity wells, such as those produced by Interdictor cruisers, and jump out of them without damage to the craft or its occupants.

The sensor and communications array has been highly specialized to allow for the utmost secrecy and stealth, even when in use.

Hypercom antenna has been adapted to operate on tight-wave sifter-channel, allowing it to operate undetected and overcome jamming systems (the com changes channel in accordance with commands from the receiver ever .001 seconds, making jamming impossible)

Specialized sensor focus dish allows for a long-range focus with passive, undetectable, sensors.

RipZone Communications/Sensor system allows for use of passive sensors and hypercom even with cloak active. (Note: This raises the chances of the ship being detected. While chances are still slim that a ship would pick up the Gunship’s transmission, it is a possibility.)

Tight-beam laser transmission system allows for communications between ships, even when in full cloak. This beam is susceptible to jamming only when it is unable to get a line-of-site link with another vessel, i.e. when a ship, space station, or planet gets in the way. Effective range: 1000 km.

Chemical-based self destruct system to destroy vessel, leaving no traces larger than a holodisk.

However we are not talking about a new kind of weapon, we are talking about a cloaking device, something that has been abused, misused, etc.

I won't get into the whole intricate thing about it, the R&D staff has been discussing this deeply.

And if the staff wants that new cannon R&Ded then so be it, I'll do it. But we have to note that the "new cannon" has not been abused or has had difficulties in the past because of confusion or misgivings.

The R&D staff has made a ruling nevertheless Isstal.

That's the point of both the Shroud and the Twilight, Beff. To create a new type of cloaking device. With all due respect, ordering someone to use two R&D slots to design new cloaking tech and apply it to a combat starship is one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. The Dread Lord SSD (as an example) uses a "never before heard of" weapon, but that doesn't count as a second R&D. R&Ds were implimented to allow people to formulate new technology and intrigate it into their fleets.

This is true. There are all of two cloak technologies in the Star Wars Universe versus the various dated methods of stealth.

Without developing your own project, strictly dedicated to cloak tech, you have only two systems to choose from. The standard Double-Blind cloaked employed by, among others, the Imperials and the Stygium Crystal Cloaking Device. The latter of which requires said crystals (which I suggest the staff look into as BS seems to be... leave it to the staff).

I, personally, will not approve any new style cloaking ships that employ a previously unheard of cloak. It will require it's own Cloak R&D.

Double-Blind or Stygium, aside from that, make your own.

No, I am saying right now that neither the shroud or the Twilight are going to be able to see without stygium crystals.

Period.

No, Chadd. There are ways to cloak a ship without making them double blind. Both the Shroud and Twilight achieved this.

Gue; the Decimator racks are not any kind of specialized equipment. They're missiles set to fire all at once, a kind of mass launcher if you will. The warheads themselves are carried on the outside of the hull, and as such take up no space inside the ship.

You are aware that without access to Stygium Crystals you will be double-blind, right Isstal?
Specialized sensor focus dish allows for a long-range focus with passive, undetectable, sensors.
Explain more please

I agree with Beff on the issuie of the decimator missle racks, Id prefer a project of their own, like all other missle specialists.

Other than that ,a ll the afore mention concerns Beff has posted are mine as well.

Gue told me that the Shroud was up for reevaluation as well, but I'm more than sure that that ship is vastly more powerful and vastly superior to this.

But I'll work on it.

Drop Hull rating.
Drop Speed(hot) rating.

I'm curious about those missile racks and, wondering if they might need a project of their own or be scaled down. Mods?

Remove:
"Gravitational Deposits along outer hull to render vessel neutral on Crystal Gravity Trap sensors."
Unless you've managed to build a ship out of null-matter of course... Or unless you can provide a very strongly backed referance to such a thing in the Star Wars Universe.

No:
"Hyperdrive Baffle to eliminate radiation on re-entry and departure."
Not unless you want to turn that into a project/tactic all of it's own.
"The hyperdrive of the Twilight has been heavily modified to detect artificial gravity wells, such as those produced by Interdictor cruisers, and jump out of them without damage to the craft or its occupants."
Also, no. Unless you want to drastically bump the size of this ship up.

Explain:
"The sensor and communications array has been highly specialized to allow for the utmost secrecy and stealth, even when in use."
How does this work? At what range does it reveal the ship? So on and So on.

Edit:
"Hypercom antenna has been adapted to operate on tight-wave sifter-channel, allowing it to operate undetected and overcome jamming systems (the com changes channel in accordance with commands from the receiver ever .001 seconds, making jamming impossible)"
Impossible to jam?

Fix:
"RipZone Communications/Sensor system allows for use of passive sensors and hypercom even with cloak active. (Note: This raises the chances of the ship being detected. While chances are still slim that a ship would pick up the Gunship’s transmission, it is a possibility.)"
The chances are more then slim. This will also require more explanation driectly related to...
"Imperial Standard Cloaking Device with LFX RipZone Communications/Sensor Array."
You're saying this is a double-blind cloak, which was the 'standard' cloak used by the Imperials however, it somehow manages to read through the blindness? No, I think not. Again, this is likely to end up being it's own R&D or at the very least, require more explanation.

My issue is with the number of conceptual systems this ship mounts as well as its grossly over-rated power for such a small sized craft. As such, it demands fixing.

Bump for Review. Suggestions coming A.S.A.P.

Approved.

#28 4:48am 24/04/03

Considering I asked the opinion of a certian R&D mod as for suggestions on Stats, I feel more then cheated(perhaps Cheated is too strong a word, but...).

I understand that fighters take up no small ammount of space, but keeping in mind that my Stalker is 3 times as large as this R&D and mounts waaaaaay less weaponry then it could...

Avatar

You aimed low, I think. And you included fighters, which take up no small area of space.

So yeah.

#26 3:31am 24/04/03

Still dosen't answer my question. I'm not satisfied... :bored
