Additional Information
When designers with LFX Industrial were assigned to the Twilight Project, they were told to create a vessel capable of entering an enemy system invisibly and delivering massive amounts of damage against enemy positions, and a ship capable of acting as a combat support ship for the fleet. However, the stealth gear and special systems required to make the Twilight as silent as she is took up vast amounts of room inside the ship, and designers were strictly forbidden from breaching one hundred meters with the Twilight design.
Instead, they began to work on another project, using funding from the Twilight project to create another, larger, ship: the Rapier Class Corvette. LFX Industrial eventually uncovered the second project and shut it down, ordering the researchers to stick to the Twilight design only. The Rapier design was shelved and forgotten.
Nearly a year later, with the Great War ended and the Twilight entering service at long last, the new leaders of the now-Holy Demosthesian Empire came to an agreement regarding the Twilight Gunships: they were excellent, capable fighting machines, but were not suited for close support. It was decided to approve a new design: the Messiah.
The Messiah called upon the same researchers who had created the Twilight, a request for a similar warship capable of delivering more damage and serving strictly in a support role, without the stealth capabilities of the Twilight. The designers took their existing designs for the Rapier vessel and adapted them to the needs of the Empire, creating the Messiah Class vessel.
Dubbed a ‘Light Destroyer’ by the Admiralty, the Messiah is a light, fast warship designed as a close support craft, system patrol ship, and convoy escort vessel. The Messiah easily outguns any other craft under 200 meters, though the Marauder Corvette’s squadron of starfighters may give that ship an advantage.
The Messiah is equipped with a total of ten turbolasers and four heavy ordnance launchers with which to target capital ships, and to counter enemy starfighter attacks carries half a dozen TriCannon mounts. The addition of ion cannons (aside from the TriCannons, the ion cannons therin are not suited for anything other than fighters and light transports) was considered by the design team, but they were eventually ruled out in favour of the anti-starfighter batteries. However, the ordnance launchers can be loaded with ion and EMP torpedoes, giving the vessel some chance of knocking out an enemy ship. The ship also carries two missile racks designed to knock out enemy capital ships.
The Messiah is a long, pronged vessel with wing-like extensions at the rear and triple engine pod at the very back. The hull is painted a deep, matte black that effectively diffuses light and makes visible identification nearly impossible. This does nothing to counter sensor readings, but is extremely dizzying for anyone observing the ship with the naked eye.
Overall, the Messiah is an excellent combat starship designed for maximum flexibility, from strike missions to escort duty and virtually anything in between. The vessel is expected to replace older, outdated models within the military within a year and serve as a new line ship for the patrol and escort services.
Weapons Systemsl Information
Torrential Missile Racks
Simple missile racks concealed under the wings when not in use, this system can carry and deliver any warhead up to eight meters in length. The bay can only be used once, but it is ideal for bombing runs or for offering an additional punch to the craft for special missions. The Torrential Racks can carry 6 Proton Torpedoes or 8 Concussion Missiles, or various other warheads of different types.

Seti - this is not zeroing you out, bare that in mind right now - if it is such as that you will RP it as such and not have it suddenly win out over everything similar to a Marauder Corvette every single time.
Firepower means nothing compared to strategy and conditioning. You and a lot of other people at TRF have a habit of assuming that if you have said firepower, you deifnitely cause said damage.
I expect this R&D to be a ship that is used exactly as you have stated it:
A system patrol craft.
Why?
Because men aboard it will be trained as system patrol craftsmen. They won't be trained as elite of the elite, they will be trained as policemen...or however it is your train your SPCMs.

Bump it when you're done.

I'm not sure about the speed and hull/shield ratings of the Marauder Class Corvette, so I could be off a bit there. I, for the most part, took those statistics, added somewhat reasonable shields and hull, and took away her starfighters to make room for the added weapons systems.
Against a Marauder, the Messiah would win out due to firepower. However, with smart use of the MC's fighters, it could overcome the Messiah.
Smart planning, i.e. not tossing them at the side of the ship.
I'll lower something... let me decide what... :lol

Lower Shield or Speed ratings.
Keep in mind power drain, and the size of the craft you've submitted.
#10 2:47pm 15/05/03
If it is indeed a system patrol craft then I would think it wouldnt be designed for long term engagements...
But eh, lose about 2 quads, maybe 2 launchers, and I say it be fine

I donno those weapons just seem a bit excessive for such a small craft...the power output requirement alone would cause it to have to shut down various other systems just to keep it running at that rate.
#8 12:39pm 15/05/03
its a combat support craft as well, works for me
#7 12:27pm 15/05/03
Yes I know, but it also shapes the overall purpose of the craft.
If he put "rescue and recovery craft" this as well would not make any sense would it?
#6 12:09pm 15/05/03
system patrol craft is just a ship type title, not an actual class like 'ISD'
#5 11:42am 15/05/03
I'm a bit concerned about the weapons. It's gunned well enough to at least cause damage to a capital ship, and yet it can also wipe the floor with fighters.
Awfully much for a "system patrol craft" eh?
#4 8:45pm 10/05/03
The weapons seem a bit much.
Quads and Duals each?
Shields/Hull, looking better.
All in all, a very nice project.
(not that I have any right to comment)
#3 3:07am 06/05/03
Heh... I pretty much just took the stats from a bigger R&D (700 - 900 meterish) and adapted them... I guess I missed the shields, eh?
:lol
#2 4:40pm 05/05/03
Yeah, just a little much.
#1 6:46am 05/05/03
Drastically lower shields and RU ratings. @#%$, what were you thinking?
