fuh shizel muh dizel
anyways, Lets consider this an Development rule. If it doesnt work out in a few months or so, we can change and edit depending on what goes wrong.

I would like to call this ruling gizzay fokizzay
That is all

no, the weapon would require a new R&D for itself

Near as I can tell I have to submit an R&D for every new technology I create. But if it's used on a ship say if it was a fancy weapons system, only the ship would take up one of my ten r&d slots?

Groups should have no limit to the number of R&Ds they may possess.

Thank you Kas for articulating that so well.

The answer is no dolash, this rule is not rectroactive.
#18 10:37pm 10/06/03
Excuse me, I'm not sure, but does this rule mean we have to resubmit our R&Ds?
Also, I think the rule is fine, personally. You have done something rather interesting.
just my 0.02 cents

Well, get creative man, I know your good in tech, just get a good go on things...
#16 9:31pm 10/06/03
You know what Gue, I would. I used to write paragraphs explaining things... but noone else did. So I stopped. Why should I waste my time on something that won't happen.

Example
Guvert Class Battlecruiser
Length: 2300 meters
Shields: 2 Y’y’hoto class dual opt-iconic refractor shields – 9900 SBD
Hull: Standard material reinforced with Mandalorian Oar – 13000 RU
Weapons: 40 Turbolasers, 40 HydroTurbolasers, 30 ION cannons, 60 Torpedo tubes
Engines: 10 Y’y’koto class Quaren engines, 30 MGLT
Breakdown:
The Y’y’hoto class dual opt-iconic refractor shields take a new spin off of the standard shield. Instead of absorbing a shot, the refractor shields “clings” it, and siphons the energy around the ship, where the bolt will re-emerge and fly out the other direction.
The Hull is laced with Mandalorain Oar, 3000 tons of it. The metal is obtained from BHG, you can find our trade agreement here.
Weapons, in addition to the standard weapons, the 40 HydroTurbolasers add extra punch. The weapon fires a mix of energy, and water, resulting in the enemy not only being melted, but being melted into a puddle. Great against planetary shields, aids on shorting them out.
The 10 y’y’koto class Quaren engines are more powerful than standard, due to the improved dedicated cooling system. The extra space taken by the cooling system means less room for fighters.
What would pass
Obviously, the new shield system would require its own R&D. After all, if it is such a good idea, you would want to use it on other ships, right? Hey, maybe even sell it to someone.
The hull would pass, providing you have not only permission from the owners of Mandalore, (or whatever other planet the new metal comes from) and providing that you have IC access. (RP’d deal, meeting, etc). It’s not drastically new, it’s an improvement. Of course, if BHG cuts off your supply of Oar, then when your stockpiles run out you’re stuck.
The HydroTubrolasers would need their own R&D. After all, if it is such a great idea, you will most certainly wish to use it on other ships, and perhaps even sell the idea.
The Engines are a passer, because it’s an improvement, not a new tech, and you’re taking extra losses.
Summary. These new rules are meant to keep everything natural. They affect New Techs not Slight Improvements. After all, if one spends time researching a new weapon, and it’s a great weapon, they would place it on other ships. Same for the shields, if it’s a great idea you’d want to use it on everything, right? Weapons, systems, etc exclusive to one type of ship don’t make much sense, unless the ship is designed for one purpose… say recon.
If you pause and think a bit, I’m sure everyone will find that there are ways to live with these rules. And… R&D’s aren’t “just” for ships, and weapons. Something to think on…
Note: I’ll leave this thread open, but if we get any more name-calling and bashing, it goes closed and the issue will be over with.

*Points at the completely unofficial star wars encyclopedia* That has a tonne of weapons that nobody seems to know about...heck I used quite a few of them in the R&D I submitted...so you can actually find out about them if you look hard enough...

Thank you Shree.

Istaal:
Everytime you see something you dont like it becomes "One of the... yadayadayada... you've seen at TRF" so Im not really concerned there. What Vinda Corp, TNO or any other group does is there problem, not yours.
And that if I want to design a ship that has a weapon that's not a turbolaser, laser cannon, ion cannon, or missile tube, it's going to require two R&D slots?
No, Its going to require you R&D the weapon, then the Ship
The ship doesnt require 2 R&D slots, the two R&Ds are seperate, just used together.
R&Ds are supposed to be creative
Yes they are, so be creative as you like, just follow the rules. Rules hath not hinder creativity
Kyric:
Then quit throwing in a ton of stuff with 3 sentance descriptions, if it were worthwhile it could make a paragraph or two. Otherwise, make one Jesus ship if you like, eitherway work with the rules and the rules will work for you.
