Observer R&D 6: Carrier and support cruiser
[FYI I based the design off of star treks Defiant. It has the basic layout of the star treks Defiant. I had to heavely modify to make space for the system requirments increasing the size of the ship to make room for other systems. I repeat it is only based on the Defiants ship design.]Images-

Designed for the Modualar Observer fighter. Each of the four docking bays carrys 3 types of fighter modules. The Modules can be interchanged within the ship itself.
Cloaking device: double blind system.
Special systems: Imperial Computer Combat Predictor.
In order to accomadate the need for a long range unit for exploration the Observers looked for a design that would be able to work with the Modular Fighter. Someing that would be able to support it in a versitile manner that would complement the fighter's abilities. They wanted something that was small and fast, and yet, had enough fire power to be an effective combat unit if the situation called for it.
After looking through tall the various ships the engineers came to the Adz class Destroyer. The ship was small and fast. capable of using a skeleton crew with all of it's automated systems and it could carry several fighters. The design fit the system requirements but the retangular design left them wanting more.
The Designers decided to Design their ship like a disk in order to make use of the space a circular design allowed. the first thing that they designed were the engines. A full third of the ship was devoted to those systems. There were the rear most engines and then there were the two side engines. The side engines are so large that they run two thirds of the length of the ship before they end. Additional engine size forced the designers to increase the over all length of the ship to increase the efficiency of the power output. This allows the ship to reach speads simular to the adv destroyer and even slightly surpassing them.
The larger engines also supply much needed power to the ships systems. It is armed with 8 quad lasers (four on top and four on the bottom. One on each corner of the disk like ship.), 4 proton torpedo tubes (two in the front and two in the rear. One of the front ones also doubles as a probe launcher.), and 4 heavy turbo lasers and four heavy ion canons locked in the forward position in the front of the craft. The Ion canons sitting between the 4 Turbo lasers.
The ship's enhanced power allows for strong shields and a molecular bonding process allows for addtional protection to the hull of the ship when shields fail.
An important feature is the layout of the fighter bays. There is no single docking bay instead there are four modular fighter bays. They are designed to each hold one modular fighter and three fighter modules. The modules can be changed inside the ship. Allowing the fighters to change to a given situation. There are two bays in the bottom front of the ship and two bays in the top rear. This feature allows the ship to save space for other systems and get the fighters out in mid combat. becuase at any given point their are two fighter bays that can face away from an attacking ship.
The Observers prefer to avoid a fight if they can. So in order to allow a quiet escape the ship has a cloaking device build into the engineering section. The double-blind system was difficult to adapt to this size of a ship. The power requirments take shields and energy weapons off line only leaving torpedos for use.
Speed is also cut by a full third when the cloak is used. This fact was actually used to their advantage the designers made it so that the system actually emmits less of an ionic trail to increase the stealth capability by decreasing speed and power out put. But the advantage of a cloak out wiegh any problems that are faced.

This Imperial starship design is used as a patrol ship in many of the outlying regions of the galaxy, and was developed just after the death of Grand Admiral Thrawn. Their primary armament consists of three quad laser cannons and three dual ion cannons. They can achieve 0.55 past lightspeed, and maintained six fighters within their bays.
One of the primary technological advances used in the Adz Class Destroyer is the inclusion of an array of slave circuitry that allows a crew of 24 to handle virtually every system. At 150 meters in length, the Adz Class patrol destroyer require 12 gunners and can transport up to 8 passengers and 4 prisoners in its brig.

I agree with the speed alotments then.
Changed accordingly.
Again I sight the Adz destroyer as a ship that this is based on. The ship was fast and it's shields were strong for it's size. This ship is twice it's size so it's shields would be that much stronger.
And even if it was not based on the Adz the ship is over 250 meters. The Nubulan B-2.

Has shields that approach 800 SBD and it is a smaller vessal as well.
The Nubulan B cruiser is larger then my craft at 300 meters. With a shield strength of 960 SBD.

The Carrier cruiser lands inbetween the two in terms of size so it should at the least have a shield strength somewhere between that of these two ships.

I'm willing to budge about 10 MGLT on speed.

Speeds are there based on the Adz Destroyer. A craft that reaches speeds upwards of 83 mglt. This ship is an improvment on that ship.
And if the max is that then why, may I ask, are the speeds of all of the BHG R&Ded ships all upwards of 50-55 mglt. Well over your stated maximum of 25/35 mglt.
I added the 50 meters that you requested and then I added 15 more meters to account for extra quads and space. I well add another 5 meters on if If means keeping the quads on the ship as is.
The cloak has a draw back.
It slows the ship down and the power demands make it so that

Why is there a draw back with the predicter? The device is a mechanical piece that only takes up space it has no effect on speed, power consumtion, or crew complement. So there are not many ways to make a drawback from an enhancment to the sensor net on an already highly automated craft.
Some information in this R&D may seem like it would have no effect on how it acts but I have my own thoughts on how it would work in a fleeting situation. So I fail to see why my inclusion of things that I see as relavent would be a problem in this R&D?

Reduce speeds, both while Stealth is active and Incactive.
Max: 25/35
Reduce the quad laser cannons.
If you want the cloak, I will require a drawback in another area. Same with the combat predictor.
I see alot of un-needed information in the submission which will not change the way the ships acts in fleet engagements.

TRF history takes a different tangent then the original SWU so hence the different history.

Last round was last round yes. But the history left over from last round remains even if the ships that we had build last round do not.
As I said, the Alderaanian guard were left untouched by the TRE last round so all that they knew IC when they were affiliated with TNA remained intact this round along with the IC group.

In fact I actually do have a good IC reason that the Observer Order has access to cloak technology.
The Observer Order took over Almania for a reason.
Last round Almania was held by The New Alliance.
The new Alliance had cloak technology becuase they were the first group to take over wayland and it's store of imperian info. In Mt. Tantass TNA gained many new technologies. Amoung them cloaking technology.
After the TNA/ TNR merger Almania fell into the hands of the Rogue Empire. The rogue empire took control of the assets on Almania IC. But never the Assets that were put on the planets three inhabitable moons. I made them the IC base of TNA's elite Alderaanian guard. (Formerly the TNA freedom guard.)
All of the info that the TNA stored was present on the Almanian moons. I read every post IC that had to do with almania. The moons were never touched. So the Alderaanian guard has opperated unmolested and undisturbed.
The Guard are now acting as the military arm of the Observer Order. The guard follows the codes of old ALderaan. As such they are now working with the Observer Order and follow the dictates of the Order.
There is your IC connection for the double-blind cloak in any Observer R&D's.

Pretty much everyone who has a cloaked ship, other than an R&D, is going to have to figure out how they got their cloak. It only makes sense.
You have to have an IC explination of how you got this tech. The Observers are a group of Jedi, not a military government. Thus, your explination is going to be a little harder.
IMO, you should drop the cloak and go with some sort of advance sensor baffle system. It just doesn't make [i]any[/i] sense that you would have a cloak.
