Usage
¤ The Vigil is a designated system/sector patrol defense and law enforcement craft, designed to be dually able to perform law enforcement as well as engage in offensive maneuvers.

Sensor Array
¤ For advanced ship detection, the Vigil is equipped with two Advanced Sensor dishes. Each dish is equipped with two back-end computers, which are programmed to decode and attempt to interpret what every special disturbance might be. Results in a 30% larger detection range, and a 20% faster detection rate.

Advanced Targeting Computer
¤ An Advanced-targeting computer aids in pinpoint locational damage for crippling the target quickly. It assists in guiding all weapons, unless the weapon gunner switches to manual mode.

InteliShip Advanced Ship Computer
¤ The InteliShip Advanced ship computer is, quite simply, a system of networking maintenance droids to the main ship computer. The InteliShip system links all the maintenance droids on the ship together with a single, central brain. While the droids maintain a level of independence, they depend upon the hive-mindedness to accomplish their tasks quickly and easily. The InteliShip system reduces internal repairs to all systems by a good ten percent, thus rendering it invaluable. The ship’s computer will also control the internal defense mechanisms, as well as fine-tune the engines and shields.

Engines
¤ The Vigil’s engine setup follows after that of the popular skipray blastboat. Each engine and a single turbolaser are on a “wing”, which equates to extremely high maneuvering speed for a ship of this size. The four tubrolasers are permanently mounted, with only a small firing arc of directly forward. They are controlled via the InteliShip computer.

Hanger Bay
¤ Because of the unique engine design, all five onboard craft exit via a hanger bay situated directly in the rear of the ship. A dual magnetic screen guards the Hanger Bay at all hours, to prevent unwanted intrusion.

Modified TIE Shuttle
¤ The single shuttle, a modified TIE Shuttle, is custom built to integrate into the Vigil. The original TIE Shuttle was simply a TIE bomber with its bomb bay modified for human passengers. This model of TIE Shuttle has received an extra layer of armor, an upgraded shield system, and a FHB hull-boarding device, for quick forced entries through the side of a ship. Utilizing a light-sabre like device, the FHB slices out a meter round chunk of meter deep hull in less than ten seconds. This allows for very fast boarding, usually before the enemy can converge at the targeted spot.

Fighter Support
¤ The Vigil's spacious hangarbay is capable of carrying four fighters, from a TiE Fighter to a B-Wing, for assistance in chasing down and corralling interlopers and law-breakers.

I meant them to be what the Falcon has, the quad laser do-hickies, just not on a full 360 degree pivot, thus the point aspect. Automated quad laser cannons, fixed at an angle with some play for anti-starfighter/missile capabilities.

That answer the question?

When i approved this, i assumed that your 'point defence lasers' were exactly that (by modern military definition).

Hence, they were fixed position, most likely automated with failsafes as backups, and are designed simply to attack incoming missiles and fighters, although more scaring the fighters by throwing heaps of laser into the sky than doing any sustainable damage.

With Shreeftut's foreknowledge, and approval...

Decides to let a good thing be, and call it an advancement. :p

Regardless, this project has been approved.

Kas: If you feel that, for any reason, you want to lower the cannons in question, you may. Just bump and amend.
Either way...

The Phalanx Point Defence Anti-Missile Galting Laser Network (try saying that six times fast), which is mounted on most of my larger R&Ds, is made up of several hundred very small cannons, which cannot do significant damage to fighters but are very adapt at shooting down missiles.

Most anti-starfighter lasers would probably be dual-mounted at least, since a single cannon wouldn't have enough punch to knock out most starfighters (maybe TIEs, if they got lucky).

That is true, I wonder what a point defense cannon is then... perhaps a single automated anti-starfighter laser?

Quad Laser Cannons... and that seems like a lot for a little ship like that... a Lancer Frigate, 20 meter larger, carried 20 Laser Cannons and nothing else...

Just my opinion.

Point defense = whatever those doohickies were in the falcon. Antistarfighter, could still do damage to a cap.

What's with the sudden rush of strange colours...? :lol

Kas, I assume that Point Defence Cannons cause relitively insignifcant damage to capital ships?

Good Good

APPROVED

#9 11:54pm 15/05/03

I'd approve it twice, if I could...

Mwah!

#8 5:55pm 15/05/03

That would be correct. You can't approve R&D's for groups you own/operate
