Weapons:
- Ion Cannon Emplacement
- Proton Torpedo Emplacement
- Concussion Missile Emplacement
- Anti-Starfighter Laser Emplacement
(Note, these are just the different possible capabilities that can be implemented in this weapon)
- Ion Cannon Emplacement
The ion cannon emplacement mounted on the Phalanx has taken a cut in power rating and size. Nevertheless, when deployed in large quantities, this weapon is fairly potent.
- Anti-Starfighter Laser Emplacement
Mounted on this version of the Phalanx Satellite, are two identical laser cannons found on starfighters. Their sole use is for targeting starfighters and scattering laser fire across space. They use a much lower power yield, and fire the lasers at an exponential rate.
- Concussion Missile Emplacement
Unlike the other laser weapons, the concussion missile launcher fires either a heat-seeking or ‘dead’ missile. The launcher is much smaller than the bulky turbolaser cannons, thereofre increasing the storage space for more missiles. The Phalanx carries up to three missile reload packets.
- Proton Torpedo Emplacement
Essentially the same thing as the concussion missile launcher, the proton torpedoes are a missile-like weapon. However they are more unstable than the standard concussion missile, therefore the Phalanx storage capacity is only two torpedo reload packets.
Special Technology
IFF System
The Phalanx comes equipped with a standard IFF transponder system, and is updated regularly in accordance to the galactic political climate.
- Identify Friend or Foe Transponder
Known as an IFF transponder, this device is a kind of subspace radio wave generator used to provide a simple way to identify a starship. It provides a burst of information about the ownership and registry of a starship, which can be analyzed by IFF receivers. If the codes check out, the starship is a friend. If not, then it's a foe. Many planetary traffic control systems have their own codes, to mark their native ships. Smugglers usually had two or three IFF transponders on their ships, which could be swapped out for different identities.
Commentary
Designed to replace needed defense ships. Easily manufactured and not costly to produce en mass, the Phalanx can be offensive weapons, and defensive weapons. They can be dropped anywhere, such as defending a planet from attacking fleets. The satellites are the fist and last lines of defense. They can be dropped anywhere in the galaxy, and left alone – except for the occasional maintenance and reloading duties. They can be dropped from attacking ORS task forces for assisting duties. The Phalanx satellites can also work as a defense force for ORS installations or civilian-owned facilities. They were designed merely to reduce the requirements for capital-class ships.
EDIT: Added the IFF system, and added one more meter onto the satellite.

So a 'packet' only contains one missile? Just making sure you don't have a couple dozen in there.

Removed the turbolaser and interdiction emplacements (which seriously pisses me off).

Not if it takes 32 posts to destroy an enemy ship its not.
EDIT: Oh, i didn't realise you put the changes up. Righteo.

Lup, the 8 day turbolaser build time is for a planetary defense, a network if you remember the change.
I think 5m (15 feet or so) is large enough to hold some sort of missile launcher, just how much of a launcher is the question.

100 RU is far to high for a 5 meter satellite, unless most of that thing is hull. I would suggest something along the lines of sub 20 RU.

- A big fat no on the turbolaser. A light laser cannon, maybe, but no turbolaser.
- Light ION cannon, no problems.
- I don't like the interdictor.
- The Anti-Starfighter is what I would expect you to have in place of the turbolaser. No problems with that.
- How many missiles in a reload packet for the Concussion Missile job?
- Ditto for the Proton job.
Overall, very good idea, very over-powered.
Standard Capital-grade turbo-laser weapons cannon. Due to the size of the satellite it is mounted on, the turhbolaser cannon emplacement has taken a cut in power and size. It is not as powerful as the types that are mounted on capital ships.
As it stands these take 8 days to build in a construction yard.
You are NOT building them, even a watered down version, at a cost whereby you can then build 10 a day in the same yard.
Also, as to speed, this shouldn't have any. Its a satellite. Look in the dictionary.
Of course, its got to be able to maneuvre, but i'm not sure if it would be able to maintain its speed for any real length of time, and not at 5 MGLT.
-Remove interdiction equipment. It requires a massive system to create a gravity well big enough to do that. A WHOLE system, not a buncha flunky satelites.
-Remove Missiles. 5m ain't enough holding everything else to hold the launcher, let alone a freakin missile, let alone more than one freakin missile.
Also, choose one Varient. With a SET weapons package. Dealing with multiple variants of this is gonna annoy the hell out of people, and also allows you to circumvent some stuff.

Might I suggest using plasma torpedo's instead of proton ones? Much more effective in the star wars universe...when the NR's Plasma Torps exploded against shields (in the Black Fleet Crisis series) they exploded just as if they were proton torpedo's...only they let plasma out as well...which (for some reason) also explodes against shields...so think...big explosion + 50 or so minor explosions...kinda handy things...
