Special Equipment and Technology Explanations
Weapons
Overview
The Tempest Star Destroyer has the most advanced weaponry ever created by Imperial engineers, and is equipped with the most powerful tracking systems for any capital-class vessels. For its size, it has an amazing weapons compliment that can stand against many ships of greater tonnage.
The TACD also utilizes Dedicated Energy Receptors to search and locate weak spots in enemy shields and hull. These DERs are fitted all around the ship to determine the most valuable use of the vessel’s weapons systems. The Tempest also features the following unseen weapons implementations:
Phoenix Gun Battery
A fast-tracking gun mount equipped with state of the art tracking and target acquisition technology. The battery is made up of two dual rapid-fire blaster cannons suited for quickly and efficiently destroying enemy starfighters and missiles. The cannons are constructed of tempered Dallorian alloy and Hyperbaride (an artificial material that has the unique property of being able to withstand incredibly high temperatures, flux densities, and radiation levels without being damaged), and the turrets themselves are armoured with Diamond Boron Armour, allowing them to absorb starfighter laser fire.
Bio-plasmatic Torpedoes
Originally developed by the Qektoth Confederacy, Bio-plasmatic Gel was a highly corrosive acid blended with a sticky gel. Bio-plasmatic Torpedoes utilize this gel, encased in a torpedo casing, to launch against enemy starships. Upon impact, the gel was sprayed over vessel’s hull and began to eat through the metal plating. Unless removed, the gel eventually eats all the way through and breaches the hull. The gel looses strength over a short period of time, and can be burned off by passing through a planetary atmosphere.
Disruptor Turrets
Designed as an alternative to turbolaser weapons, Distruptor Turrets are high-powered weapons based from blaster technology. They are nearly five times as powerful as standard turbolasers, but they are short range weapons, with only two fifths the firing distance of standard weapons.
Disruptor Batteries
Four Disruptor Turrets fire-linked into one unit. Damage amounts to the same as a a Heavy Turbolaser battery.
Ion Encumbrance System
This is an ancient form of ion weapon used by the Old Republic. Enhanced by Imperial engineers, this weapon is similar in effect to modern ion cannons. However, rather than delivering a direct blast of ion energy, the ion encumbrance system “sweeps” the enemy hull, much like a sensor does. This system is not as effective at penetrating an enemy vessel, but each sweep effects a larger area on the outside than a standard ion shot does.
Ion Pulse Warheads
A projectile launcher that was modified from the standard ion cannon for use on starfighters during the war with the Rebellion. The ion pulse warheads detonate against enemy shields, weakening them enough to allow a secondary burst of ion energy to disable the vessel’s shield generators. This ion burst effects all electronic systems in a 200-meter radius.
Galax Viper Missile Volley Gun
This is an warhead launcher originally produced by Kurtough during the early days of the New Republic. A large occult weapon, the Viper employed a collection of missile launchers in a single unit. Each missile fires shortly after the previous one, creating a “curtain effect” with a continuous volley of projectiles striking the enemy vessel and eliminating most deflector shields.
Ion-enabled Sensor Tag
This form of targeting system can be used with the Viper Volley Gun. Originally used during the last decades of the Old Republic, the system fires an ion-shielded tag at their target. The ion shielding penetrates the vessel’s protective shielding, while the tag lodges into the hull and provides a guidance mechanism for the Viper’s missiles.
Hansen FeatherTouch Mark II
A highly advanced form of tractor beam based on the Hansen FeatherTouch, this tractor beam is both incredibly powerful and capable of amazingly fine operations. It can harmlessly pull a bird out of mid-flight, or rip a small freighter to pieces.
Gravitational Field Disruptor
These devices, like tractor beams, manipulate gravity. Instead of moving object, however, the device can be used to alter the effects of gravity on a craft, increasing or decreasing its weight at will. This allows the vessel to literally trap an enemy ship and halt its manoeuvres, similar to a tractor beam.
Phalanx Anti-missile Defence Network
A series of small, rapid-fire laser cannons with superior tracking and target acquisition systems. Each cannon is independently operated by a droid brain and designed to shoot down incoming missile volleys. The network is able to reduce a long-range missile volley to under 5% of its original strength, and 10% for short-range attacks.
Shields
Overview
Designed to supplement larger capital ships in the field, the Tempest was required to stand against larger enemy vessels and expect to survive. As such, the vessel has been equipped with several new shielding devices to protect her from enemy assaults.
Reactive
A shielding mechanism designed to afford better protection against energy weapons, Reactive shields charge a special battery bank when the ship’s shields are raised. When that shield bank’s dedicated combat analysis computer detects a substantial depletion of shield strength, the bank is quickly recharged with the stored energy.
Multi-track
Utilizing a dedicated combat analysis computer, Multi-track shielding detects and notes approaching enemy vessels and positions shields to best defend against the angle of attack.
Gravitic
A rare form of shielding that used an anti-graviton field to counteract the effects of a gravity well generator. Gravitic shields were designed during the Civil War and built into some Imperial assault ships.
Anti-concussion
Developed by the Corporate Sector Authority, these defensive shields provide a measure of protection against explosions, collisions, and other impacts.
Internal Shield Array
Shield generators set inside the vessel’s hulls and reinforced with Diamon Boron Armour to protect them from starfighter attacks.
Hull/Armour Composition
Overview
With the Tempest Class Star Destroyer too comes several advances in hull and armour composition. The Imperial R&D department was set on the task of creating a hull capable of sustaining great deals of damage and surviving. The hull’s spaceframe consists of materials (described below) molecularly bonded to form composite beams. These provide enough strength for massive acceleration while remaining flexible enough to withstand extreme manoeuvres. They also provide the ship amazing resilience to hull strain caused by warhead attacks.
Diamon Boron Armour
An armour plating developed by the Empire for use in anti-starfighter missiles, Diamon Boron armour was incredibly resilient to starfighter laser cannon fire. To protect guns turrets and shield generators from enemy starfighter attacks, these devices are covered in a top-layer of Diamon Boron armour. This allows the ship’s guns to continue firing despite enemy targeting of gun emplacements.
Durinium
An alloy used by smugglers and pirates for lining hidden cargo compartments, a layer of Durninium has been applied to the inside of the TACD to scramble enemy sensor scans of the vessel’s interior.
Enhanced-Bonding Plating
A rare and expensive form of shielding designed to better deflect energy, metal alloys are bombarded with radiation until they bond at the molecular level. This greatly increases the vessel’s hull strength.
Glasteel
This alloy was developed shortly before the Yuuzhan Vong invasion of the galaxy. Glasteel is as strong as durasteel, but transparent. This alloy has been used in the construction of the Tempest’s bridge, allowing for greater expanses of viewport that are built directly into the vessel’s hull, for added support.
Transparisteel
Transparisteel is similar to Glasteel, though not nearly as strong. It does, however, have the unique ability to alter its tint to account for available light. For this reason, all viewports on the TACD, while made of Glasteel, are coated on the interior with Transparisteel.
Hyperbaride
This artificial material has the unique property of being able to withstand incredibly high temperatures, flux densities, and radiation levels without being damaged. These are necessary in the construction of heavy guns, and the extensive use of advanced Hyperbaride on the TACD gives a significant boost to overall firepower.
Laminanium
This was the first truly regenerative armour ever developed. First used to protect the Yuuzhan Vong Hunter series of droids, Laminanium is capable of absorbing large amounts of enemy fire before restoring itself to its original protective level. This healing process requires a stored source of laminanium to ‘feed’ the process, which the TACD provides. This armour is layered atop the hull of the Tempest to absorb stay laser and missile fire.
Durelium, Maranium, Ilinium and Hfredium
Standard ores used in the construction of starship hyperdrives. These four ores form the core of the TACD’s reinforced armour, and are incredibly resilient to enemy attacks.
Veneration Architecture
Using repeated triangular patterns and braces, Veneration architecture improves hull integrity and reduces strain on the vessel.
Sensors
Bounce Back Sensors
Working on the same principle as early sonar, bounce back sensors distribute beams of energy in all directions. These beams are bounced back by any objects they encounter, creating a three-dimensional image of any objects in their sweep. The Bounce Back sensor stream is capable of detecting, but not creating an image for, cloaked ships. This system is accurate to approximately 500 000 kilometres.
Stellar Displacement Sensors
This system constantly scans an area for movements in stellar dust and winds, which may point to a cloak vessel. This system is workable to just over 150 000 kilometres.
Crystal Gravfield Trap
An miniaturized version of an advanced sensor that operates on the gravitational plane, the CGT uses a synthetic crystal to detect fluctuations in gravity. This system is capable of detecting cloaked warships. Effective range is limited to only one thousand kilometres.
Tachyon Detectors
These sensors scan for thermal energy, such as the exhaust produced by an ion engine to locate cloaked warships.
Engines
Overview
The new KDY Fusial Thrust engines incorporated for the new Star Destroyers are augmented for their best performance. The Engines work by taking the same technology from regular fusion power generators but taking the energy and creating it into thrust. The crafts engines first gather positively charged particles and negatively charged particles and fuse them, making a sudden burst of energy, which is captured in large cache barrels. They are then fed through specialized turbines that augment the power for thrust purposes and makes one an incredibly powerful push, even doubling the sublight speed of a regular Ion Drive. The Engines have a surprising amount of speed to them which makes most craft fitted with these considered very deadly. When initial tests to the engine where made by fitting 2 of these engines to A-9 Vigilance starfighters the engines were clocked at 220 MGLT with Shields down and weapons down.
WhisperThrust
Developed by Rendili StarDrive, these are exclusively for use on Imperial warships. The engines allow a ship to move through realspace without emitting energy waves, making the vessel run “silently”. This makes detection of the ship more difficult.
Sensor Evasion/Countermeasures
Vanish 3 Sensor Mask
An upgrade on a system developed by Fabritech, this device combines electromagnetic and holographic transmissions to hide a starship from most sensors. The device does not absorb sensors beams, but rather disrupts them by sending back information on the environment surrounding a starship. The Vanish 3 is effective at making the TACD virtually invisible to enemy sensors.
Screamer Mark II
A device designed by Bertiak as an active jamming system, it disguised a starship’s ion drive emissions to prevent long-range detection or missile and targeting locks.
Energy Production/Storage
Fusion Reactor
The standard means of producing energy for a capital warship, cold-ionization fusion reactors fuse matter at room temperature, creating massive amounts of energy without emitting large amounts of heat. The energy produced from the reactor is stored in cryogenic power cells until it is needed. Due to the volatile nature of the ship’s reactor core, the reactor is sectioned off with heavily reinforced armour capable of withstanding all but the heaviest of turbolaser attacks. The reactor also directly feeds its own dedicated shield generator.
Surface Charge Capacitance
In order to supplement the power of its reactor core, the Tempest Star Destroyer also makes use of the Surface Charge Capacitance system. This device uses the natural properties of starship hulls to collect and store static energy as vessel passes through space. The vessel’s hull rubs against various particles which exist in space, creating a charge which is stored for later use.
Advanced Cryogenic Power Cells
A standard means of storing energy, these cells keep energy at near-freezing temperature until it is needed. These units are kept under heavy guard, and is heavily armoured to prevent critical power loss from enemy attacks.
Miscellaneous
Anti-concussion Field Generator
A defensive device designed to protect against explosions, collisions, and other impact, this system redirects explosive force away from the ship’s hull, rendering less damage to vessel.
Complete Astrological Database
The largest planetary database ever compiled, including charts of the Unknown Regions captured from the former Chiss capital of Csilla. This database has complete information about location, size, and population of nearly ever planet in the known galaxy.
Dual Point Jump System
A hyperspace jump calculator designed to eliminate errors in course plotting. This system requires two completely independent computers to verify a hyper route before it can be put into effect. This computer network is designed for instantaneous calculations of even the most complex jumps.
Command Facilities
Overview
Designed to serve as a fleet command ship, the Tempest is equipped with a variety of facilities to accommodate fleet command services. The ship’s bridge is a one-level structure with a raised dais in the centre and a walkway leading to the main viewports. The bridge is arrayed so as to allow at least ninety degree field of view from the central dais.
The ship is equipped with state-of-the-art communications gear, similar (though not as powerful) as those located aboard the Dictator Communications ship in order to relay orders to the fleet and the Empire.
Additional Information
The Tempest Class Advanced Star Destroyer was developed by the Imperial Design Team to be the forerunner in galactic technological warfare. Equipped with dozens of technological breakthroughs developed by Imperial engineers, this prototype warship is capable of fending off even the most determined of enemy assaults.
Because of its development role in the fleet, the Tempest is not expected to see mainline duty for some time. Instead, she will serve to strengthen the Empire’s fleet deployment and become a testbed for new advances in technology.
OOC Notations:
Most (if not all) of the above technologies are based in canon, and drawn from the Unofficial Encylopedia. If the ship is deemed to powerful, or what have you, I would be happy to submit to an extended R&D and/or extended build time.
Also note that I may yet edit this post for a better write-up, or to make small changes of mistakes I note or am made aware of.
Thank you.

Um how did you get Bio-Plasmatic Gel?
Qektoth Confederacy is in the Kathol Sector. Pretty far away from the jolly good empire.

Yeah... I'm gonna take another look at it, actually, and might redo it at some point.
It's been sitting around a while, and I wanted to get it up and get some comments, for the most part. It's a Mark I; a more advanced version is suposed to follow (heh).
Disruptor Turrets replace standard turbolaser turrets on the Tempest Star Destroyer. While more powerful than standard-grade turbolasers, they require more energy to operate and have a slower recharge rate. They do, however, produce far less heat, negating the need for additional and maintenance-intensive cooling systems. Disruptor Turrets are also more resilient to enemy attacks. (OOC Note: Because of the slower recharge rate on these weapons, overall damage amounts to the same as a standard Heavy Turbolaser turret). The turret itself is armoured with diamond-boron armour to protect them from starfighter attacks.
Of course we have Csilla. Haven't you read Requiem? (heh)
And FYI, TNO and myself have been using DERs for ages. The Reign, the Venerator, the SATAP and ASD... in fact, DERs are an Imperial device!
The Disruptor turrets... hmm. The intention was to give the TACD a weapon similar to turbolasers, but not simply turbolasers. I would settle for a range decreas, if a power increase went with it. If not...
Also, if that works out, I would probably replace some of the DTs with standard turbolasers.
The Ion Encumbrance System, from my source, is an older form of ion cannon tech. Rather than a concentrated beam, though, it produces a "wave" effect, thus neutralizing more surface systems, but leaving more "burried" systems intact.
Ion Pule Warheads... they're canon too! I just took all the likely-looking stuff from the UE and remodeled it for my purposes. So bah!
Hansen... *shrug* It's a canon tech, if that helps. It works on the same principle as standard tractor beams, but is more fine-tuned.
Likewise with the GFD, again canon, and working on the same principle as a tractor beam but designed to effect the force of gravity on an object, and thusly its weight.
As for hull makeup, they're all used in different areas.
Diamon Boron Armour -- employed to shield specific turrets and other systems often targetted by enemy starfighters.
Durinium -- added as the final layer to scramble enemy sensors
Enhanced Bonding Plating -- second hull layering
Glasteel -- ship's windows, allowing for greater size and strength in viewports
Transparisteel -- coats the interior of viewports to make use of its natural tinting ability
Hyperbaride -- used in the ship's guns
Laminanium -- outer hull makeup
Durelium, Maranium, Ilinium and Hfredium -- treated with EBP, these ores make up the main hull of the ship.

Sounds familiar, like something Id R&D... oh wait... heh
Disruptor Turrets
Id expect they also have a GREATLY reduced range, as do average disrupters. Im talking no orbital bombardment, ever, reduction. Think, imma have to almost ram you, reduction. 1/10th the range of a turbolaser.... range.

Wasnt this originally a system by which one would trap vessels inside a starbase or some such thing?

alter the fabric of space-time? care to elaborate? BTW, Im aware of another weapon like this from another game, called a Tractor Repulsar beam, it didnt effect space time, but it effectively shook a ship to death with ranged pulling and pushing effect, might wanna look into that...

Could I get some more description on how this works?
I was gonna go into you shield/armors, but hows about you do me a favor and just pick the good ones and kick out the ones you know wont combine...
