Mission Overview
In defending a formation against fighters, both the aging Lancer-class Frigate of the Empire and the Dornier-class Gunship of the Republic have proven inadequate. Fighter technology continues to advance faster than that of ship-borne defenses, pushing these vessels into retirement.
As a result of inquiries, the weapons manufacturer Kruppx joined with Corellian Engineering Corporation to design a new aerial defense system and a ship to carry it into battle. The Rapier II meets the parameters set forth by military representatives as well as civil requirements.
The Rapier looks at first glance like an oversized and retrofitted Corellian CR90 Corvette, but is much deadlier and faster! Sixty percent of all reactor energy feeds three CEC experimental drive engines, giving the ship an excellent sublight speed faster than ships smaller in comparison. Without enlarging the hull, power had to be taken from hyperdrive motivators: the finished product was a sluggish ship in hyperspace and racing-warship in sublight.
Regarding the weaponry; a small number of conventional armaments have been emplaced on the bow and aft quarters for action in the two points the primary guns cannot target. The primary guns are located on the central spar between aft and fore. Each turret has a 180-degree elevation/depression angle as the turrets are located between two bars fixed to the hull allowing a great field of fire. The guns themselves can move laterally 45-degrees left or right of center. Emplaced are two (2-gun) heavy turbolaser turrets, six Firestorm systems, and two ion cannon. The array of weapons allow it to engage a ship near-twice its size and could expect victory from any ship equal in its class: Carrack-class Cruisers, Nebulon B-1, B2, or C Frigates, Interdictors or early-model Mon Calamari frigates.
The central weapons are completely unmanned in the typical sense. In the central-spar gun turrets, there are no gunners. However, before the spar and immediately after are fire control centers where all gun action is handled. Each individual weapon has a team monitoring its systems: barrel temperature, rotation speed, electronic equipment, power settings, et al. In addition to these monitoring teams are two gunners themselves (per turret) who target the weapons either at their own discretion or on orders from the bridge. The bow FCC operates starboard guns, aft controls port guns.
OOC – Component Explanation
Firestorm Quad-lasers – A battery of rapid-fire lasers that fire bolts ½ the strength of standard quadlasers. The reduced power expenditure allows a greater volume to be moved through the cooling chambers: less energy per shot, slower heat increase. Coupled with the free-elevation/depression design, the guns can eliminate fighters faster and more efficiently than any weapon of the day. ( standard quads, gatlings, missiles)
Sublight Speed – Engine power has been reduced in hyperspace to give her an exploitable disadvantage.
Blade-class Fighter – small craft (like Dooku’s escorts in AOTC) used for reconnaissance or extended patrol duties. It is armed with a pair of linked light blasters – not a combat vessel. It has no shields and light armor. Only a few energy-based hits could be withstood, missiles would kill it.
Build Time
Since I have included several new ideas in this as well as a fighter, there must be additional build time than simple length. I propose:
(Measured as Meters=Time)
Length – 300m
Weapons – 100m
Fighter-5m
Engines – 45m
All told it would have to be built as would a 450m craft. This would be so we cannot get so powerful a craft for so easy a fee as a 350m Carrack that is considerably less capable.
Also, given that this additional time is being taken to build it, she can eliminate a significant number more fighters than any other craft currently in service.

GJO or NJO? GJO is SWFans (unless is stands for something else, too).
If it's an upgrade of a canon ship, though, I'm not sure...

Oh - I thought it was for ships that were new but available for general use by all factions and not allegiance specific.
The original Rapier was a Corelian model the Rebels used in the first GJO book as a modified Lancer. It failed - I designed this to replace it.

You do know that General R&Ds are for canon ships without proper stats, right?
I've never heard of a Rapier, is all.
