TTR R&D: Cardigan Fighter

Name: Cardigan Fighter

Manufacturer: TTR Industrial

Designer: StarCorp

Designation: Starfighter

Length: 9.5 meters

Width: 2 meters

Height: 2.5 meters

Personnel: 1 pilot

Consumables: 3 days

Shields: 60 SBD

Hull: 50 RU

Speed: 155 MGLT

Maneuverability Rating: 125 DPF

Hyperdrive: 1x

Weapons: 4 KX9 Laser Cannons, 1 Concussion Missile Tube

Equipment: Standard Sensors, Comm. Unit, and Jammer.

Cockpit: Similar to the design of the X-wings cockpit, it’s mounted directly above the engine system and allows the pilot a good view through the wing pylons. The main body of the ship is 2.5 meters of the total length and houses the engines, shields, and other necessary systems.

Wings: Set at 135 degree angles with the hull, the wings stick out the remaining 5 meters of the meterage. There are four of them located on the ship and they hold the laser cannons on them. The design is based off of the Tie Defender but designed to be a better fighter in the small forward and aft target.

Special Equipment: Because of the wing design, the pilot has a blind spot at the rear of the craft. In order to compensate this, a small space usable camera is mounted at the rear of the craft. The feed from the camera goes into an eyepiece that the pilot wears over his left eye. This way he can effectively watch his blind spot. However, seeing as the view from a camera is conic, there are still two blind spots on either side of the craft. They are just a lot smaller.

The Cardigan fighter is designed to be a space superiority fighter whose main goal is to destroy enemy fighter craft. While it does not hold and missile launchers or proton torpedo tubes, the vessel is fast and well suited to close quarters combat instead of attacking capital ships like the Rapyir Starfighter.

Design Time: 20 days
Start: 11-18
End: 12-7

Well, when the R&D staff approved this design, as with all my other flettchette incorporating ships, they did not count them as weapons.

And, since its part of their R&D that they aren't used as weapons, i guess you've just struck out.

And all these things take up a damn large amount of space. All things the griffen doesn't have, but your fighter does.

Flechette launchers are listed as weapons in the essential guide to weapons and technology so: FIVE weapons.

#43 6:49am 27/11/03

1) It has the same number of weapons.
2) Not that much space taken by a pilot considering the size of the ship.
3)So? WHat it's designed for is not really that important.

2 Weapons, in fact.

No person or supplies.

Droid Controlled.

No hyperdrive.

Requires carrier signal to function.

You can't fit enough stuff into a ship three times larger and a lot slower.

Why?

1) The Griffen has less weapons than your ship, and each weapon is less powerful.
2) The Griffen lacks a pilot, and thus the need for accomodation, life support, et al.
3) The Griffen isn't designed as a one-on-one dogfighter; it's designed to combat enemy ships in swarms.

Name:
Griffen X22 Driod Fighter
Designer:
Olanji Charubah Royal Shipworks
Combat Designation:
Droid Space Superiority Fighter
Length:
2 Metres
Height:
1 Metre
Width:
2 Metres
Cost:
20,000 Crowns (not available in standard credits)
Hyperdrive:
None
Sublight:
210 MGLT
Maneuverability Rating:
150 DPF
Shields:
40 SBD
Hull:
30 RU
Missile Countermeasures:
3 Fletchette launchers *
ECM Countermeasures:
None
Weapons:
1 Rapid Fire Laser Cannon
1 Triple Blaster Ion Cannon

Now look at that. Five weapons in two meters and yet it goes faster than even my Rapyir which is nine meters. Now tell me I can't fit enough stuff into a ship three times larger and a lot slower.

Since people started using that as en excuse to create rediculously overpowered R&Ds.

It's years after the design of the Defender. Since when did technology suddenly stop changing?
you must realize that technology has gotten better since the Defender was designed. It is reasonable to say that compnenet have become small enough to fit into the ship and have the same output.
I don't "have" to realize anything. That argument, too, has been rejected on all fronts by the R&D staff.

It's not a clone and you must realize that technology has gotten better since the Defender was designed. It is reasonable to say that compnenet have become small enough to fit into the ship and have the same output.

If it's a TIE Defender clone, it stands to reason it has to be the same size or bigger than the Defender...

Asofar, you've struck out on going to the rest of the staff. And you wanna try it again? Ha.

#33 4:19am 27/11/03

Yeah where is Gue. He hasn't posted in this thread at all.

#32 9:57pm 26/11/03

Why not post a TIE Defender's stats, let's see if the ship is comparable before we say the ship needs to be the same size as a Defender or bigger etc..

Perhaps an X-wings stats should be posted here too.

Besides, what does Gue say?
