Epsilon Station

Epsilon Station

Submitted by the Department of Defence (DoD) in response to terrorist attacks on Imperial production facilities, Epsilon Station is an effort to improve planetary defence within the Empire. Made of up two command stations, each permanently anchored over the poles of the target world, and several hundred satellite stations, Epsilon Station is essentially a global shield generator.

The pole stations generate planetary-class defence shields around the full width of the world, effectively enclosing anything in geosynchronous orbit under their protective cocoon. The satellite stations, each with its own dedicated generator and turbolaser emplacements, orbit over the world’s equator to provide additional defence.

In terms of Imperial production facilities, such as the Imperial Shipyards at Bilbringi, the satellite stations are located only a few kilometres distant, giving them the ability to defend these stations from any would-be attackers. Incredibly expensive to maintain, Epsilon Station’s benefits were brought to the Imperial High Command, and the project was approved for further research.

OOC Information:

Epsilon station is essentially a Gencore Level II shield generated from a space station. The satellite stations each contain a standard KDY Turbolaser battery, and these combined give Epsilon station a 40 days build time (25 Days for the Shield, 8 Days for the Turbolasers, and 7 Days for the Platforms etc.). Due to the nature of the design, only one Epsilon Station can be found per system – though ground based defences are still viable.

Research Time: 20 Days
Start: Dec. 11
End: Dec. 21
Build Time: 40 Days

Epsilon II Satallite Station

A further development of Epsilon Station, these additional defence platforms are larger and more powerful than the standard Satellite stations. Armed with a variety of weapons, these platforms can deliver a devastating attack on any enemy fleet foolish enough to assault an Imperial world.

Normally assigned only to vital production worlds, these additional stations prove a deterrent to terrorist attacks and smuggling attempts both.

Compared to Golan Class Stations (I, II and III-all of which are larger than the Epsilon) this is very well armed. Though its lack of sheilds might make up for some of that.

Still, this station could compare to a 2600 meter Golan III.

I would take those stats and run Drayson. ;)

Epsilon II Satallite Station

Lose:
6000 RU
5 Squadrons
50 Heavy Turbolasers

you want more, hope another Mod gives it to you...

For a non-moving, unshielded ship, I mantain that 2000 RU is a rediculously weak hull rating.

Yes but all that armour takes up room.

It's nothing like that, Marth. If your ship was an 80 000 meter space station, it could have a fairily heavy hull. Obviously, hull plating takes up space - but space wise, 8000 RU on an 800 meter craft is fine.

Since the craft doesn't move, speed is not an issue.

And my comment about shields was regarding the fact that shields are not carried, therefor increasing room for weapons systems.

Might I point out that your Torpedo Clusters are more than just regular launchers. And shields take up a lot less SPACE yes SPACE then hull. Movement has no effect here. That's like saying I could have a 900000000000000000000000000 RU hull as long as my ship was slow even if it was 2 m long.

The only limiting factor on the ammount of armour on capital ships is its effect on movement in space. Since the station does not move, it's able to carry heavier hull. That, and it lacks any form of shielding.

The weapons are comparable to an Aegis Cruiser, keeping in mind that this has neither engines nor shields to sap power.

Epsilon II Station - Get rid of 100 Turbolaser emplacements (batteries, turbolasers I don't care)

Lower hull ratings.

Get rid of three squadrons of Starfury Assault Starfighters.
