Explanations
Vulcan Cannon Point Defence Galting Laser Network
The Vulcan Cannon System is similar to the Phalanx Laser Network, but has been scaled down, and in addition has the added ability to track and shoot down starfighters in the immediate vicinty of the gunship. The System reduces the percentage of short-range missile strikes to less than 25%, and long range attacks to under 15%. In addition, it can destroy 1 out of 25 starfighters per a minute per cannon. The gunship is equipped with 6 6-Barrel cannons.
Rerouting Stations:
The Rerouting Stations on the Gunship can allow it to transfer 10% power in one post from one system to another system, such as from engines to shields, or vice-versa.
Background Information
The Intrepid was designed as an answer to the need for a small ship that could defend itself well in battle, and serve as a fast anti-starfighter ship, and provide fire support against large captial warships.

Approved.

I'd say 1.5 kilometers. Because of the rapid rate of fire, and the small bolts it's firing, the effectivness would pretty much wear off after that point, in my estimation. So starfighters can fire their torpedoes without worry, it's basically going in on strafing runs that would hurt them, unless the Intrepid goes to them, that is.

Its research began on 1/8, regardless of when it's approved. There's no rush.
How far does "the immediate vicinity of the ship" extend? I'll have no problem approving the ship if this is reasonable.

C'mon. One more approval.

Need one more.

Not that I can see. Approved.

More specifically, I changed it to one out of every 25 starfighters, which I think is fair. Are there any other issues?

I'd up it even further.
#15 2:16am 13/01/04
As soon as the new day rolls around, I'll edit it to say 1 out of 10 or 15 starfighters destroyed, depending on proximity. Would that be acceptable?

One in five, per cannon, isn't too shabby for one post.
If the other moderators aren't swayed, I'll let it go, but I do think that this system is overdone as far as anti-starfighter combat goes (while still fitting into the category of missile defense).
#13 10:52pm 12/01/04
No. It either has anti-starfighter capabilities or anti-missile. Not both. Pick one and then i'll look over the rest of the ship.
#12 6:05pm 12/01/04
It is. I would take many hits to destroy a fighter in manuever, but in theory, with such a high fire rate, and/or slightly more powerful shots than the Phalanx, the Vulcan is a semi-good anti-starfighter weapon. It has anti-starfighter capabilities, in other words. Just not very effective ones.

Typically the Phallanx system used by the Empire is only used for missile defence. I imagine this is some derivative of that.
#10 7:16am 12/01/04
But with anti-starfighter capabilities? For a power-efficient device designed for countering missile attacks, I don't see how it can (successfully) destroy any starfighters other than snubs.
Either the cannon is meant to puncture missile hulls with trace amounts of power, I think, or it's an outright anti-starfighter weapon. Only the former would be "defensive."

Sort of like a anti-missile type thing?
