Prometheus Hyperspace Attack Ship + HMS(ORS)

Winces at the thought of all the objections he's going to get.

Prometheus class-Hyperspace Attack Ship

Designer: Aurora Arms and Sovereignty Shipworks
Manufacturer: Aurora Arms and Sovereignty Shipworks

Length: 100m
Diameter: 75m(cylinder)

Crew: 25 Enlisted
3 Officers

Hyperspace Speed: x3

Sublight Speed: 10 MGLT

Shields: 250 SBD
Hull: 200 RU

Weapons:
85 HMS-B Missile Launchers (3 reloads on-board)(see below)

Onboard Craft: None

Special Systems:
1 HMS-B Hyperspace Stasis Probe Launchers (4 probes internally stored)(see below)

HIMS(Hyperwave Inertial Momentum Sustainer)

The first in a new series of ships, the Hyperspace Attack Ship, the Prometheus class is designed to be a light missile gunship capable of launching sneak attacks using the HMS-B missile system(see below). It has been designed in complete secrecy at CN-1344 with the trustworthiest Sovereignty Shipworks and Aurora Arms scientists. It is not designed to be able to defend itself against other larger ships and in fact goes to great lengths to avoid combat. It is equipped with the HIMS so if it were in fact to be ambushed using interdictors it would be able to run-away. They will be based on planets such as CN-1344 and CN-1653. It is also standard operating procedure for the ship to be accompanied by various escorts so as to protect it. The Prometheus class should do very good in ushering in a new era of warfare.

Limitations:
1.Each Prometheus must spend 10 real days at either CN-1653 or CN-1344 to reload its missiles.
2.Only 24 Prometheus's can be built at one time.

Hyperspace Missile System

The Hyperspace Missile System or HMS is the ultimate in missile warfare combining Mendoseld hyperdrive technology along with the latest in missile.

The HMS is based on the findings of many other projects. The first one was Project Farlight a secret project that was charged with devising a system to easily and cheaply launch missiles from hyperspace. The project was quickly proven to be impossible. A missile needed a hyperdrive to exit hyperspace. Since the normal shock of exiting hyperspace would likely severely damage the extremely reactive warhead resulting in over 80% of the missiles exploding or fragmenting before they reach their target. Installing an intertial compensator onboard the missile could circumvent this but it would be much too expensive to use in large amounts. Only 20% of the missiles hitting their targets are nowhere near a large enough ratio so the project was cancelled.

But then came the introduction of the Mendoseld Hyperdrive. Sovereignty Shipworks researchers who were researching a method to make the HIMS reversions less damaging too a ship discovered that if you reduce the pre-jump sub-space velocity to zero there will be little or not shock. However the ship would need a specially designed hyperdrive to be able to revert at full speed. After a few years they’ve managed to create the Mendoseld Hyperdrive. The Mendoseld Hyperdrive has many advantages including it is fairly inexpensive as hyperdrives go.

Immediately the Senate Science and Technology Council commissioned Project Light Fury, which was to be used to test and refine a new missile design using the new hyperdrive technology. Project Light Fury were the creators of the HMS design. The original torpedo was designed to be launched by a ship in real space. The ship would launch the missile, which would then enter hyperspace, travel the distance to right near the ship, exit hyperspace, and then impact on the shields of the target ship. This design worked well and it was about to begin to be handed over to Sovereignty Shipworks so they could integrate it with their ship lines. Then a fortuitous accident occurred. One of the missiles launched by the Bird of Prey test bed Avatar 8 had malfunctioned. The torpedo stayed in hyperspace exactly 0.3 seconds longer than it should have. Thus the torpedo passed through the shields and the outer hull of the target Dreadnaught FX 3. The missile reverted in the after-quarters of the ship in what would have been the engineering section. Luckily nobody was onboard and there were no casualties. More tests were done and it was determined that a properly programmed missile could easily strike anywhere within a ship. Thus the HMS-A was developed.

HMS-A

Length: 1m
Sublight Speed: 15 MGLT
Hyperspeed: x15

Destructive Power: Normal Missile Power

Designed to be launched from a capital ship this missile has a range a little over 2 times that of a regular missile. The system involves two sections, missile launcher and a sensor system. The sensor system detects a user-specified target. It calculates the amount of time the missile would have to spend in hyperspace for it to revert within the target ship. If the ship is moving the missile is targeted for the middle of the ship, if it isn't the commander can specify to target a specific location within the ship. After the sensor system knows exactly how long the missile would have to spend in hyperspace down to the last millionth of a second, the missile is then programmed. It is then ejected from the ship using a small air-powered charge. The missile will spend a precisely calculated time in real space usually less than a second. It then jumps to hyperspace and reverts inside the enemy ship. Each missile is fused to explode when it reverts from hyperspace rather than being fused to explode upon impact like most missiles and torpedoes. The HMS-A is only capable of being used outside of gravity wells. It can still be used in gravity wells but it would be inefficient because it has the very low sublight speed of 15 MGLT. The HMS-A is capable of being fired from any general warhead launcher however there needs to be an HMS-A compatible computer onboard for the missile to be useful.

Note: To be placed on future R&Ds

HMS-B

Hyperspace Stasis Probe

Size: 5m
Hyperspeed: x0.25
Sublight Speed: 0 MGLT
Hull: 1 RU
Shields: 0 SBD

A modified Stasis Probe it is used as an advance scout for the Prometheus -class Hyperspace Attack Ship. While the ship is within hyperspace mere minutes from the target system the probe is launched. It quickly accelerates away from the Hyperspace Attack Ship and reverts in system. It is nearly undetectable because it has no real space velocity so its cronau radiation cone is so small and it's carefully directed away from the planets in the target system. The probe takes a snapshot of the system including location of ships, shipyards, IFF codes etc. The probe quickly returns to hyperspace where it re-unites with the hyperspace attack ship. The data is used to program the HMS-B missiles. The HMS-B missile is launched at the Hyperspace Attack Ship's closest pass to the system. The missile reverts to real space at the edge of the system's gravity-well. When the missile reverts it activates its real-space propulsion system and heads towards its target that has been programmed through data from the probe. The missile is able to correct its course as it targets moves. Each probe is only useable once. After that if you attempt to use it again it will disintegrate.

Build Time: 20 a day

Actual Missile

Length: 2.5m
Sublight Speed: 185 MGLT
Hyperspeed: x15
Destructive Power: Normal Missile Power
Armour: Diamond Boron

The HMS-B missile is based on the Diamond Boron anti-starfighters missile used by the Imperial Starfleet against Rebel starfighters to great effect during the rebellion. What Aurora Arms researchers have managed to do is to extend the missiles length to accommodate the hyperdrive. The missile retains its nearly impervious armor making it extremely difficult for starfighters to kill. It does suffer because of this however a slight decrease in Sublight Speed. However it's been decided that the slightly higher kill-ratio of missiles would be acceptable in the face of the long-range attack power presented by the HMS-B.

Enough, Kyric. One more approval.

I'm talking about targetting... obviously you totally missed the analogy.

Which is why it's not using gravity to come out of hyperspace. The minimal ship gravity wouldn't even effect it.

More or less, but even if I did agree (which I don't), your minimal ships gravity would make this like trying to hit a flea with a .45.

Well at the moment I can't find the quote but I'm still looking.

It pretty much was.

A)Hyperspace is a completely seperate dimension
b)Points in real-space are at the same location as points in hyperspace(If you travel 10m in hyperspace you travel 10m in realspace)
c)Objects in realspace aren't in hyperspace rather they just exert their gravatic influence. In the case of a ship minimal.

Kyric did that even make sense to you?

Realspace exists in hyperspace. Just not the other way around.

You're right it doesn't.

I'm not saying it does.

And somewhere in the essential guides it says that ships that are in realspace don't exist in hyperspace. I'll dig it up sometime soon.

#4 7:29pm 14/12/03

These missiles are impractical. As hyperspace does not affect realspace.

Umm you don't It was an idea but it didn't end up having any application to the HIMS.

How exactly do you plan on going from 0 velocity into HIMS then begin to move?

#1 5:30pm 13/12/03

quite a complicated missle, but if I am correct in this, about as effective as a normal missle. All things in realspace exist in hyperspace as well as a physical shadow, therfore sheilds would still block missles instead of leaping into the middle of the ship.

As well as add 3m to all missles for hyperspace engines and HMS systems...
