THC R&D #14: May'Tel Fighter
<span style="font-family:verdana; color:teal;font-size:large;">May'Tel Fighter</span>
Type: Space Superiority Fighter/Interceptor
Length: 15m
Crew: 2 (1 Pilot, 1 Gunner)
Shields: 100 SBD
Hull: 21 RU
Speed: 150 MGLT
Hyperdrive Capable
Designed to fulfill the role of or replace the Miy'til in certain situations, the May'tel at twice the length of the Miy'til is also twice as expensive to mass produce and thus sees less combat action as its small counterpart. Never the less, the May'Tel is a valuable asset in the Hapan navy...
Weapons:
2 Armored Heavy Particle Lasers
The lasers are twice as powerful and carry a larger power storage battery than normal. They are also fitted with radiation shielding and armor to keep them operational where other systems might fail. Because the guns are more powerful, a supercharged shot travels more slowly and takes more time to fire - a readjustment flight is recommended before combat missions.
1 Missile Launcher
10 Held missles available for ready fire at all times
Special:
Self Destruction Sequence:
If a proper clearance code is not entered when ship is powered down a sequence of shaped charges are activated two minutes after power off, to keep the ship from falling into the wrong hands. The explosion causes damage is to internal systems only, with little to no harm to ships other than itself.
Shield-Type Cloaking:
Hapan Engineering has succesfully designed a cloaking field capable of disrupting not only electronic ship based sensors but also visually as effective. A cloaking system has been developed to be used as a shield, and indeed is a shield in its own right. When raised the Shield-Type Cloaking system will allow the sensor data to transmit through it, sending back information on the space where the fighter is located, minus any data colaborating to the fighter itself. The Cloak also reflects the visual data on its immediate surroundings as to appear invisible to normal occular sight.
Hapan Engineers have been able to produce such this device small enough, as well as drastically lower its power needs so it can be installed on a starfighter. The cloaking device itself requires a fiar amount of energy for it to operate, in comparison to the starfighters overall power output. As such, the May'Tel has to decloak to be able to fire its weapons as well as to detect other May'Tel, as well, it also cannot have its real shields up or travel in hyperspace while cloaked in this Shield-Type cloaking.

As said on AIM, I want a separate R&D for the cloak with extensive explanations. Gue mentioned that he is attempting to duplicate the TiE Phantom. In response I told him that the Phantom is questionable, and should be considered a boon.
As supported by canon..

To what extent? Is it limited to the electromagnetic spectrum, or does it "reflect back" all data, period?
#8 10:57am 14/02/04
actually, it would read as a normal pocket of space, same as the space around it. The shield is made to hide the fighter by fooling all sensors into believing the area inside the shield is the exact same thing as the area outside the shield...

Reading the discription, none.
Which is kind of stupid, since infrared is part of a normal battle-readiness scanner sweep.
#6 6:49am 14/02/04
Just out of curiosity how would that cloak thingy work vs. say Infrared scanners?
#5 5:24am 14/02/04
When were self-destructs disallowed?
#4 3:04am 14/02/04
1) Self-destructs aren't outlawed.
2) This isn't a self-destruct, as much as a self-imstruct.
#3 1:18am 14/02/04
Seld-destructs are not allowed. Take the cloak off.

:rolleyes c'mon Gue, you helped write the blasted rules...
