Hull Armor Systems

Hull Composition

Titanium Reinforced Alusteel Hull. The heavily shielded, carbonite and durasteel-reinforced dome holds and protects the main reactor. And all the Armek-M38 Heavy Pulse Turbolaser Cannons are protected by 1 Metre of Quadanium Steel Hull Plating each.

Reflective Hull Armor Plating –

Almost like a mirror, the reflective hull armor plating is designed to reflect the starscape while providing added protection against enemy weapons fire. It is a type of molecularly bonded armor that is strengthened at the subatomic level, and coated with blaster-laser resistant coating. Even after shield loss, the armor was designed for extra defense.

Anti-Intruder System

The Bird of Prey interior design has been radically improved and upgraded. Checkpoints every twenty-five meters throughout the ship has been implemented, with blast doors lined with cortosis ore at each checkpoint. Also at every checkpoint are force locks (strong force fields) that will automatically engage to block a person who does not have the proper clearance to that portion of the ship. Cortosis ore also lines the corridor walls to prevent lightsabers from cutting through. At every checkpoint (which are manned by a security droid) are clearance checks – which are done by voice recognition, or ID cards. Access to the bridge is extremely limited, and only officers are allowed entry. Persons wishing to enter the bridge must undergo a fingerprint scan – those who do not have clearance are barred from entry by force locks and blast doors. Also lining the checkpoints are the mark four guardian grids. These grinds are outfitted with laser cannons that track known hostiles and eliminate them. The grids only come online when someone tries to gain access through the checkpoint without clearance.

The anti-intruder system is also designed to penetrate fingerprints to locate forgeries and fakes. The fingerprint scanners have been upgraded to spot fake fingerprints – such as the known fingerprint copying device. The scanner also checks for life signs with in the person. It will not accept clearance from anyone without a pulse of some kind.

Retractable Weapons Cannons

All weapons onboard the Bird of Prey have been upgraded and are now retractable. The weapon extends a meter or so (depending on the weapon) out of the ship, fires, retracts, recharges, and fires again. New easy-slide rails compensate for the obvious reduction in time to fire twice. When compared to weapons already mounted on the hulls, the retractable weapons were found to be just as easy to recharge and fire as the standard weapons.

Sovereignty Shipworks mk.II Emission less Ion Engines

Along with the other upgrades, the Bird of Prey mark two has thrown out the long obsolete KDY Destroyer-1 Ion Engines and replaced it with a new state-of-the-art engine system developed by Sovereignty Shipworks. Exhaust from the ship is carried by tubes mounted inside the hull to vents all over the ship. The exhaust is vented methodically, and is dispersed with enough force for the ion exhaust to spread over a wide area – mingling with space particles and then dissolving. This allows the Bird to move without a trace. To compensate for any circumstance, the vents that release the exhaust gasses can be closed. In this event, the gasses can be stored, where it is processed for later venting.

Elite Missile Defense System

Auxiliary Bridge

“War breeds necessity.”

This could not be more truthful. In recent events it has been observed that the need for a second bridge has become apparent. The auxiliary bridge is smaller then the main bridge, but it has all the necessary components that it’s larger companion carries. The bridge is activated in two ways –

One, in the event of total systems failure on the main bridge, the second bridge can be activated.
Two, if the first bridge is destroyed somehow, the second one comes online.

The same security measures applied to the main bridge also are implemented on the auxiliary bridge – with cortosis –lined blast doors, fingerprint scanners, and force locks. In the event of the bridge crew being killed, trained crewmembers have been instructed in how to operate the ship.

Security Force

Trained to provide maximum security onboard the Bird of Prey. These are specially modified assassin droids who have been programmed with anti-Force user techniques. They are directly tied in with the Bird of Prey main computer and are instantly alerted to any intruders. They are programmed to seek out and destroy known intruders. They take no prisoners and do not respond to negotiation. They have one objective: protect the Bird of Prey at all costs.

Advanced Power Grid System

The upgraded version of the Bird of Prey absorbs more power than its predecessor. And to increase efficiency and tighten security measures, a new power generator has been installed. Unlike normal generators, which are located at a single point, the new generator has been designed much like a human nervous system. It is made up of individual powerpacks that are located throughout the ship. The system ties into all ship systems, giving them power. This is a much more efficient design then the normal power core. This way the power core is the entire ship. Each powerpack is also designed to operate at full capacity if another pack is damaged or destroyed. This eliminates the option of sabotage of the Bird’s nervous system.

Shield Energy Examiners

A new design of sensor to be used onboard the Bird of Prey the Shield Energy Examiners minutely examine the shield strength and power output. It is supposed to discover the weakpoints in the shield projected by the enemy ships. These locations are then fed to the weapon banks which can target them thus exploiting the shield's weakness.

Hyperwave Inertial Momentum Sustainer

Abbreviated HIMS, this device was developed on Bakura. In its simplest form, this is a specially-built hyperspace coil which shuts itself on and off. When the device detects an interdiction field or other false mass-line in hyperspace, it cuts the hyperdrive off, dropping the ship out of hyperspace. Immediately, a static hyperwave bubble generator in-line with the HIMS ignites, surrounding the ship with a hyperspace bubble. The bubble does not provide thrust, just a way of passing through the interdiction field. Thus, the ship coasts inside the bubble until it can no longer sustain istelf. When the bubble fails, the hyperspace comes on long enough to register the existence of the interdiction field, then trips again. If enough hyperspace buble generators are linked to the hyperspace coil, the ship can drift deep into the interdiction field, popping bubbles as it goes. The ship will appear to flicker in and out of hyperspace. The momentum of the ship will slowly diminish until it cannot jump back to hyperspace. At this time, the HIMS can be shut down, a

Vanish 2 Sensor Mask (Upgraded)

Developed and manufactured by Fabritech (And later modified by ORS technicians), this device combined electromagnetic and holographic transmissions to "hide" a starship from most sensors. This device didn't absorb sensor beams but, rather, disrupted them by sending back information on the environment surrounding a starship. The Vanish 2 made a ship virtually disappear by sending back sensor data about the starfield around it.

Maneuvering Jets

- The addition of inlayed maneuvering jets will allow for faster turning as well as better maneuvering ability in combat. The jets, when needed, extend out from the hull in order to activate.

C3 Computer

The Countermeasures Compensation Computer attempts to account for the jamming and evasion devices used by its targets. The C3 extrapolates the target's continued trajectory and feeds that into the targetting device

The Acheron System

This system, designed to keep vital information out of the hands of the enemy, is a last ditch effort in defense of allied forces. There is a button on the underside of the Captains command chair specifically for this use. If a ship is endanger of being captured, enemy forces are inside the vessel, the captain will depress the button. The button subsequently releases a virus into the computer systems of the vessel that erases all memory and information witheld in the vessel. This information includes the locations of planets and facilities as well as codes. This process takes a maximum of 2 minutes to complete. After this two minutes is up, a second virus is released. This virus deletes the previous virus then hides itself among the computer systems which are still running. The virus then acts as a spy, using hidden cameras and microphones to capture information from the enemy. This information is relayed every ten minutes to a base on any Sovereignty world. This allows for the ship not only to keep vital information from the enemy, but also to gather information from the enemy.

The Acheron System is also designed to be released into the main computer systems (This includes ALL records of any scrap of information ANYWHERE on the ship) if the ship is destroyed, The system is linked to the main computer, and upon copmputer failure, the virus is released.

Power Dispensation System

This is a system common in many vessels that have a tendency to need the extra power during battle. This system, incorporating a series of entubed wires hidden inside the walls of the vessel, allows for the transfer of power more effectively from unnecessary functions to functions more valuable to the ship. In times of need, certain functions can be shut down and the power diverted through the wires incorporated in the system to functions that are more important to the cause of keeping the ship intact and functioning. The wires are high strength and can handle as much power as can feesibly be pushed through them. The encasing is made of fine crystasteel so the wires can be checked easily by technicians but they can't be destroyed easily by enemy fire. This function causes the ship to have a better likely hood of surviving if damaged or staying cloaked if power to the generator should fail.

Commentary

This vessel was designed specifically to be the backbone of the Sovereignty Navy. The Bird-of-Prey is designed to be cheap and easily produced, and is designed to replace the heavier ships. They are the deciding force in the ORS navy. They were designed strictly as a mass-producible vessel, with an entire squadron being built at a time. They are easily replaced, durable, well-armed and numerous. Birds of Prey are noted for their unique design, and wing span, and can be found patrolling ORS borders to facing heavily armed enemy ships.

Note: This is an upgrade to all current Birds of Prey in the Sovereignty fleet, this design will also replace ALL future Birds of Prey to be produced.

Aye, I would like to point out due to arguments had with my own upgrade attempt that, older vessels being upgraded would be required to be individually upgraded, using a specified yard for a specified amount of time.

#2 3:11am 29/01/04

I would also list the number of Bird of Preys that will receive this "upgrade" (since it affects current craft how many you have? Does this also affect craft used by other factions?). How much yard time will be involved in upgrading existing BoPs?
