Description: While the X-wing is a somewhat dated combat starship, rebel engineers managed to make a somewhat updated version which makes the fighter more capable against modern fighters, and perhaps more importantly for the Alliance, easier to produce. Even modernized, the new E-BD2 model is only a slight improvement in performance over the last widely produced model, the T-65C-AC4. Still, the E-BD2 is a highly capable fighter-bomber, where its lack of ultra-high speed and high maneuverability is not a problem, and its high defenses and reasonable armament ensures that it can make numerous assault runs without risk of destruction. This latest model of the versatile X-wing will likely remain in Alliance service for years to come.

Engines: The Flight performance of the E-BD2 is nearly identical to that of the C-AC4 in terms of speed, albeit the E-BD2 has slightly improved acceleration and the C-AC4 was a bit more maneuverable. This is because of a change from the C-AC4’s military grade engines to several more easily acquired high-performance civilian ion engines. Most modern interceptors or even older, comparable superiority fighters like the Tie Avengers can outrace the X-wing, but it is still more than fast enough to keep pace with many cost-effective and mass-produced starfighters like the original Tie fighters and interceptors.
Maneuverability: Moderately Low
Flight Systems: The E-BD2 is not terribly maneuverable compared to most modern fighters, but it is a slight step up from the original X-wing, but even the original Tie Line Fighter can outmaneuver the E-BD2, not to mention ships like the Tie Defender, which has nearly double its maneuverability rating. Still, the E-BD2 manages to be a tad more maneuverable than most shuttles and starbombers, which is at least something.

Hull: The E-BD2 continues the X-wing’s traditional durability, and very few modern fighters have plating as thick or well-organized as the E-BD2s. E-BD2s can have been known to survive attacks that would destroy most modern starfighters through a combination of its thick hull and high shields.
Shields: High
Shield Generators: While the shields of the E-BD2 are not as thick of an assault gunboats or many of the later generation Tie series, they are nearly double that of the original X-wing, making the durable craft almost impervious to many starfighter grade weaponry for brief moments of time.
Weapons: Moderately High
Weapons: The E-BD2 carries the same armament as the XJ-wing, which is slightly more powerful then the C-AC4s, though it does not have the same carrying capacity as that craft. While not as heavily armed as a true assault ship like a B-wing or StarWing, the E-BD2 is usually quite capable of destroying things that get in its path with relative ease. Tactical Combat Network: This is perhaps the E-BD2s greatest update to kept the craft competitive against newer starfighters. The TCN is a combination of an improved targeting software and battle analysis computer. Essentially, the TCN connects all the sensors of the squadron together, analyzes, and presents all of the sensor data from those ships to the pilot and the ship’s astromech. This part of the TCN results in improved sensor resolution, more precise data for the targeting computer, and provides effective ECCM against sensor jamming. Additionally, it analyzes the data to provide precise suggestions to the pilot while taking into account the pilot’s flying style(as based on its experience with the pilot) and those of his compatriots and synchronizes it with the other movements of the squadron. Thus, the TCN provides extremely enhanced combat coordination. Squadrons experienced with using the TCN tend be abnormally well-coordinated, if unpredictable, oftentimes negating technological or experience disadvantages that Alliance pilots have to deal with.
Easy to Manufacture: Because the Alliance does not have access to Incom to make X-wings, the E-BD2 was designed to be easily built and maintained, using many civilian components whenever possible. The lines of the E-BD2 have also been somewhat simplified to allow easy construction in small Alliance facilities. It also uses a new modular armor paneling system, which allows easier access for more thorough and quicker maintenance and repairs.
