Description:
The Shatter was designed to serve as a quick and agile assault corvette, made primarily for cloak and dagger runs. Primarily found near points of interest or importance, the Shatters are rarely actually 'seen' as they usually stay either cloaked or phase cloaked to avoid being spotted and spied upon.
Equipped with an advanced reactor and a smart AI, the ship can remain phased out of normal space for extended periods of time, and thanks to the combat data provided by the Junius assault, the phase cloak system has been fine tuned to allow it to use less power and yet provide more phased cloak time.
Along with this unique ability and because the ship was built around that concept, it is the only Seren ship to be able to fire while phased out of normal space and still remain undetected by enemies’ as it lays waste to small ships and those that have limited to no shielding. However, every-time the ship fires it reduces the time it can remain phased out of space, in short – it can fire its straffer cannons a total of a dozen times before it must return to normal space to vent the accumulated radiation.
In order for the ships weapons to operate while the ship is phase cloaked, portions of the weapon systems are pushed slightly into phase upon firing, not enough to be seen, but enough to allow the ship to fire. HOWEVER, This comes at a very big risk: If an enemy fires and hits the ship when it fires, then the weapons system will be damaged. For this weapon, there is a secondary weapons system to compensate, but that one also has the potential of being damaged if the primary is hit.
That, and because it's equipped with a vector thrust assembly, the ship can literally be propelled on a new adjacent course to avoid enemy fire or ships that it can't phase through. Note, using this assembly briefs reveals the ship for a few micro-seconds as a faint ghostly blur, not enough to be targeted by a AI assisted systems though since it technically ‘isnt there’
Because the ship use's phase cloaked, it's diamond anti-capital ship torpedos are also equiped with a much smaller version of that component, however, this small version is only powerful enough to keep the torpedo phased out for fifteen seconds after that it returns to normal space. However, the on board AI will automatically dephase the torpedo when it's within a few meters of it's intended target.
The ship relies heavily on its phase cloaked ability and thus tends to avoid battle when its phase component is not ready, however, the layer of reflective coating does allow it to engage targets without being cloaked. As mentioned in the lighter cloaking drive thread, when phase cloak is used the ship become's immune to energy based weapons and to some projectile based systems. However, confussion missiles and sonic mines will damage the phase field and could cause the vessel to be destroyed. To note: A phase cloaked ship exploding 'will' damage anything within two kilometers due to the sudden wash of energy from the phase field, which has the chance of destroying munitions and fighters in the area but also could damage none shielded vessels.
Updates
1. Put in a description on how the ship can fire, even though it's phase cloaked.
