Light-bender Infiltration Suit (Seren Troop Tech)
While the advent of the Personal Cloaking device exists based off the Lighter Cloaking drive, that particular model of the personal CD isn't very effective and also resulted in the user having several small burns on exposed areas of their body (due to the device generating so much heat)The Light-bender infiltration suit fixes this problem in several ways; one the suit is better insulated and small heat pipes channel the heat generated by the device out the bottom of the users shoes, thus reducing not only their heat image, but also making them a bit harder to notice on infra-red. Another difference between other cloaking suits is that this one is a fully body suit and covers the entire body, the suit can be worn with or without a helmet (the helmet allows the user to monitor his suits tempreture and integrity) the helmet also provides at least 'some' protection from concussion and impact.
Another advantage of this suit over those commercially available, is that a bladed weapon, such a vibro-blade, can be used without the risk of the suit decloaking for the several precious seconds that an attacker could use.
Instead, the suit envelopes the weapon in the same type of field that covers the user. This allows the blade to remain cloaked and yet at the ready for striking, however, energy based weapons, such as a blaster or a lightsabre, interfere with the suits normal operating functions thus causing the cloaking device to fail.
There is a failsafe in the suit where if the primary device fails, a secondary device will engage to keep the person cloaked - but this secondary device isn't 'as' powerful as the primary but will keep the person cloaked for the seconds they need to flee the situation.
Unlike some infiltration suits that don't use a cloaking device, but have a layer of armor to protect against blaster shots, the Light-bender does not afford any protection to the wearer, thus making it hectic to use in a tense fire fight. Likewise, EMP based weapons are the suits worst enemy. However, while having no protection is a down-fall, the advantage to that is that this suit is easy to move around in and thus a person can more easily respond in a melee fight.
Despite its downfalls, it does have several advantages, for one. The user can remain cloaked for hours on end without the worry of being detected, though decloaking when no one is around insures that the suit is never heated to the point of being picked up by an infra-red when the person is in a spot where heat isn't normally present. It usually takes the suit five minutes before heat begins to generate from the shoe sized vent shafts.
The on-board battery is capable of keeping the user cloaked for five straight hours; however, the batteries can be recharged thanks to several well placed mini-solar panels built into the suit. If the suit is used outside in broad daylight, but in calm, stable environment, the suit will last indiffinantly as long as there is solar energy(Due to the shear amount of solar power, the user can remain cloaked, yet still draw in solar power). If the user goes into a building, they'll either need to find a window with sun light in order to recharge the suits onboard batteries(but can't be cloaked due to the absence of absolute solar power), or it'll need to find an energy source nearby that is compatible with the battery itself.
Because each suit is complex to make, they can't be mass-produced and thus must be made to a person's size and specifications. Currently, this suit works only with Humans and Trandoshans, a working wookiee suit was made but sadly the wookie's felt finding inventive ways of destroying their suits - thus causing the designers to go back to the drawing board on that particular suit modal.
While most suits have to be made to the persons specifications, they can request a foam fitting version (making it somewhat easier on the designers, but not by much and it does increase the cost)
Currently, while the suit is only for organizational use, it’s expected that the suits normal cost would be around forty thousand credits ‘per’ suit. However, because current Serendivus cloaking technology is classified, it’s not going to be publically available for quite some time.
