Description: The Hunter-class Starfighter is the superiority counterpart of the Kalrechi-class Heavy Fighter. It has been described as the triumph of mediocrity by Alliance personnel. It is a starfighter that has no particular strengths, nor any particular weaknesses. And because of that, it is a fighter that excels at nothing in particular. Like the Kalrechi, it is not a particular ship class with specific components or materials. It is a starfighter that can be easily and cheaply constructed by resistance cells across the galaxy. The Alliance’s Inferno Fleet constructs its own version, which usually utilizes military grade equipment taken off older starfighters.

Construction is nearly exactly the same as with the Kalrechi. Polymers, metals, and certain ceramics can be used to form the basic fuselage. Armor on the Hunter is significantly lighter than on the Kalrechi. Thus, when lighter materials are utilized, the Hunter is significantly faster and more fragile. When heavier materials are used, the ship becomes considerably more durable and slower. Like the Kalrechi, the basic systems of most resistance fighters are scrounged off of common, civilian vehicles, and older ships. Hunters are equipped with scramjets on both of their engine pods. This can allows the Hunters to achieve breakneck speed in the atmosphere; sometimes to catch fleeing opponents, sometimes to escape from opponents.

The Hunter has three hardpoints for guns; one directly beneath the cockpit, and one on either engine pod. In most cases, these are rapid-fire slugthrowers which utilize common, civilian superconducting wire to generate a magnetic field to quickly accelerate slugs laced with ferromagnetic materials. The resulting weapon is equivalent to typical laser cannon in terms of basic damage, but with a limited amount of ammo. This is offset by the fact the slugthrower can use different types of ammos to create different effects. Explosive tipped rounds are common when possible, which makes Hunters exceptionally deadly against opposing starfighters. Another common round is coated with magnesium, which ignites by the slug’s friction against the air to create an effective incendiary round.

On the front of each engine pod, there are three single tube missile launchers along with some maneuvering thrusters. Because the purchase of missiles is oftentimes illegal or highly suspicious, it is rare for resistance Hunters to use conventional concussion missiles or proton torpedoes. Instead, they employ homemade missiles incorporating maneuvering thrusters taken from airspeeders and any number of payloads depending on what the cell has on hand. Usually these are primitive explosives manufactured by any number of materials, such as fertilizers to volatile cleaning chemicals.

As missiles are frequently employed as expedient means to quickly destroy fighters, UAE personnel added a rear-mounted decoy launcher, much like on the Kalrechi. Each decoy works by generating a general energy disruption field, like the Imperial Decoy Beam, but which mimics the Hunter’s sensor signature. The missile then generally locks onto the decoy and destroys it instead of hitting the fighter. It can also be deployed to foil enemy droid fighters into firing on it instead of the actual fighter.

Inferno Fleet manufactures its own variant, which only a few changes to the base Hunter Model. The primary difference is the replacement of two of the slugthrowers with a dual ion cannon in order to facilitate the disabling of enemy ships. In addition, the single shot missile tubes have been replaced with a more conventional Krupx MG-7 Proton Torpedo Launcher, which is found on X-wings and several other common starfighters. Also taken from the X-wing, the Hunter/i has a Bertriak "Screamer" Active Jammer, which disguises the ship’s ion engine emissions for long-range stealth and throws off enemy missiles. Lastly, the armor of the Hunter/i has been soaked in the waste runoff of the Tydirium mines to give it slightly more protection against energy weapons, but mostly to absorb the crimson colour which designates all ships of Inferno Fleet.

Role & Deployment: Hunters can be found across the galaxy as part of the Rebel Alliance’s cells and as a starfighter in its fleets. Hunters are multi-role craft with a strong emphasis on space superiority, which tends to lead Rebel commanders to deploy them in a multitude of roles. With its relatively high speed in comparison to capital ships and a respectable weapon’s loadout, some rebel commanders have grown found of using them as hit-and-run assault fighters.
