Description:

The Skirmisher class Light Cruiser is a vessel intended to fit a needed role for Imperial fleets, in providing a vessel which can accelerate to quick speeds in the sublight category, and deliver a fast, hard punch before withdrawing back to friendly lines. Instead of going with a micro-jump system, or trying to utlizise a gravity well defeating system, the cruiser simply has an advanced sublight drive which can propel it to speeds above normal for long periods of time for a ship it's size. The power needed for these drive engines means that the ship's shielding is somewhat lower than a vessel this normal sized.

As for armament, the vessel sports a pair of heavy turbolaser turrets forward, with a battery of ion cannons spread along the length of the vessel. Finally, located in wings extending outwards from the main hull, are two proton torpedo clusters, each cluster containing fifteen torpedo tubes, that have vertical launch capability, at a forty five degree angle to the hull. Each tube has an ammunition capacity of three torpedoes.

The wings have an armour rating of fifty units, and is seperate from the main armour scheme protecting the main body of the vessel. In case of an ammunition explosion, the wings would be largely destroyed, but the rest of the ship would remain intact with a very minimum amount of hull breaches.

The Skirmisher relies almost solely on the protection of escort vessels, carrying only half a squadron of starfighters for defense against the threat of other little birds, and with it's intended firepower solely being anti-capital ship, shows another weakness besides it's poor protection.

As stated, the vessel is designed for hit and fade attacks, launching salvoes against enemy lines, then withdrawing. Another tatic this ship would be useful for is to either run around enemy lines and hit their interdictor cruisers, or possibly even patrolling friendly trade routes or hitting enemy ones, being an excellent ship for also quick response emergencies, where an enemy assault fleet would include interdictors.

*Watches the TNO credit reserves tick down even farther*

But it is nice to see my work at Bilbringi has you guys thinking.

Though it pains me to do so; I agree with the duck.

Quack.

No, it's not.

#5 3:29pm 23/02/07

Hmm I suppose not. But perhaps an updated version of the FCLF is in order...

For one thing, what the hell is a TIE Devastator?

BTW, Cracker, if you look up the Fire class Light Frigate, I'll wager you'll find we don't need this ship...

I just looked up the BoP, and I have to say that I can't see what the comparison is here. This vessel is far more basic, isn't loaded up with special technology, and it's firepower and defenses doesn't come close to matching what the latest version of the BoP has, and so what if it's faster in order to accomodate for these weaknesses?

I've got to agree with Tir here. This is the farthest thing from original I've seen since, well since Wes put out his five variations of the same fighter last week but whatever.

And cut the speed. Come on Kraken you're not stupid. Getting 60 on a BOP took enough arguing. This thing is almost 300 m and has the same speed as an x-wing which is considered a decently fast fighter. Not super fast but not slow either.

So... an near perfect copy of a BoP... but 40 MGLT faster?

Its amazing how far R&ds have come.
