Special Designs:
SFS L-r9.8x Repeating Laser Cannon - The L-r9.8x is an experimental cannon developed by Sienar for use mainly in turrets and fighter defense in larger craft. The cannon runs with it's own small power generator located under the turret, so it doesn't draw any more power than a regular cannon. The system is based around six rotating barrels. As the pilot fires, the barrels begin to rotate, allowing a much faster rate of fire than a normal cannon. However, the system is heavy enough that it will easily slow down smaller craft on which it is placed, and without the secondary generators, it draws too much power away from the shields and the engines to make the bomber an easy kill.

Development History: After Sienar completed the TIE Storm, Sienar turned to the second SS craft. Wes Vos wanted a fighter/bomber that could be used effectively in either role, which is a difficult task. However, Sienar tackled it as best they could. First, they came up with a unique hull that was closer to the Y-wing or A-wing than the traditional TIE. The second was to add a cockpit, which again retained the traditional TIE look. A turret mounted behind the cockpit gave Colonel Vos his L-r9.8x. The rest of the ship came into being quickly, with standard equipment being added for shields, sensors, and communications systems.

Description: The TIE Hurrikane looks somewhat like a cross between an E-wing and a TIE cockpit. The cockpit is halfway back along the hull, followed by a manned turret containing the L-r9.8x. The shields and engines follow. Communications and sensor systems are in the hull, and the two twin L-s9.3 cannons are on either side of the cockpit and somewhat forward. The two warhead launchers are slung under the wings and fed ammunition contained under the cockpit.

Park... I just want you to know, I do this out of love.

Perhaps the point I was trying to get across is that it doesn't really matter because the Coalition will simply come up with something better than it in no time at all.

No, I was!

I was tempted to edit the above post to read:

Although I will point out something useless.

Although I will point out that the new generation of Sukhoi Flankers far exceeds the F-22 Raptor in combat capability.

That's true. I've heard different things about the mainstay starfighter of TNO is. Demos at one time told me it was now Tie Interceptors with shields.

*shrugs*

It doesn't really matter. Good luck with them.

Well, if you look at the TIE Defender, since that's the mainstay fighter of the Imperials now, compare it to this and you'll see the difference. This is slower, weaker shields, and while it has great firepower, that firepower is concentrated in one gun.

Thanks for explaining that Vos; I didn't quite get it either. Ratings don't exactly matter anymore, and no offense, but it was hard to tell what it exactly was.

Maybe its because I usually use this as a source for things like that..

That's also the reason only a few of these are being made - just enough to supply four Star Destroyers with half their bombing squadrons and some for replacements - say 36 in all?

The F-22 Raptor is fast, manouverable, stealthy, can act as a dog fighter, bomber or recon platform.

Sometimes the rule of "you only get two" dosen't apply if we're going to allow reality to filter through. Besides, the Empire has already made the claim that they have more then enough money in their economy to support an R&D project to trump 'em all. The F-22 did, it was just ungoldy expensive in it's production. I assume Wes is considering the same.

There are several disadvantages to it. First, it is slower than a normal fighter by about 40 MGLT, though faster than a standard bomber. It's not very heavily armed except by the turret - take out the turret, and it's a sitting duck. The shields, while heavier than a normal Imperial fighter, are weaker than an X-wing's, not to mention a standard bomber's. So in all, it's a well-balanced craft - not excelling in anything, but not lacking in anything either. Oh, and it requires two people to man, so there's only six per squadron.

So its fast, powerful, well shielded, heavily armed and can act as either a fighter or a bomber.

Sounds too good to be true. :p
