Description (Copyright of Wookiepedia): The appearance of swirling cloud tops made it seem as horrible internal storms racked the planet, supported by the strange glow that emanated from below. Further planetary survey studies showed conclusively that while storms were not uncommon within Genarius' atmosphere, the glow resulted from very deep, very intense nuclear reactions. The planet's center, a mass of ultra-dense matter that was hot enough to be nearly considered it as a protostar, was in a continual state of low-grade fusion, which radiated heat, the strange glow that brightened the clouds every hour of the day, and a good deal of energy that can be harvested.
Different cities had equipped the technology in different ways. Ipsus created a radiation shield, a cube of chromium-treated alloys that served as a shield to the winds and the ravages of radiation. Tolea Biqua, on the other hand, has shields designed to use the radiation brought by the winds as a source of energy. They powered the bright lights that marked the city's position among the clouds. There was no sense, as the city’s designers reasoned, to waste a perfectly good energy source. The storms were a boon to Tolea Biqua.
The mixture of gases on Genarius was unique in the galaxy. Most of them were unstable by nature, but in combination with one another and the radiation from the planet's center, they stabilized each other. Pockets of argon mixed with heavy beskium and three distinct gaseous carbon isotopes to create strange swirls of orange and blue. Over 150 other elements were present in trace amounts, with less than 50 parts per million.
Such a mixture of gases would normally prohibit life from developing on Genarius. A single species of creatures, the jellyfishlike Cochlera, have evolved within the dense glowing clouds. Hardy and adaptable, cochlera have never been found elsewhere in the galaxy. This has led to speculation that they are creatures born from the strange mix of gases, organisms that cannot live without the precise conditions that developed on Genarius. No cochlera taken from Genarius has ever lived more than a day.
TRF History:
Genarius joined the Confederation as the result of a joint diplomatic delegation by the Gestalt Colonies and the Kashans. In the process, they exposed that the ruling leader was corrupt and had been illegally redirecting government funding over the years for his own black market business. President Callis has since been chosen by the people as their new leader as part of the restructuring of the government to ensure that such an event never occurs again. Genarius currently fields a large defence fleet which is tasked with defending not only Genarius, but much of the outer reaches of the Cularin system itself.
Role in the Confederation:
Genarius’s main role is in the economy; it provides dozens of different gases that are essential for every day use, and many have useful applications. Tibanna gas, including Tibanna X, is by far the leader in production; the others are used in smaller amounts or are for very specialized fields. It is also a major manufacturer of Ardanium, a rare metal that actually grows stronger in the presence of radiation. How it is mined and produced has been kept largely secret as it is a government operation, as the new government of Genarius is still trying to fully understand how Governor Saxton’s techniques, machinery, and methods work. The planet is also involved heavily in the power business, harvesting energy from the nuclear reactions are storing it away for sale. Aside from the economy, the planet does have a hyperlane that leads to the main Gestalt-Kashan Hyperlane, courtesy of the Kashan Defence Fleet. It can only used by the government however.
