Last Showcase of 2006

As 2006 draws to a close we see TRF moving forward taking the Star Wars phenomena into many interesting, creative and sometimes funny directions.

Below represents our member's choices for this Showcase though this list, in no way, shows all of TRF's best. If you are visiting for the first time, please feel free to peruse the Battlegrounds for exciting stories about life, love, liberty and see the best and worst in humanity...(and scum sucking aliens).

I've got limited time, so I'll keep to just the one I care the most about.

The Family You Can Trust:

I nominated this one because it was the most recent, active RP from the new member commonly known as "Smarts". An extremely active RPer, Smarts had surprised me with how active he was and how quickly he seemed to jump into TRF's environment, with no issues and, most importantly, a new, innovative idea backed up by good posts that were enjoyable to read. I generally don't have time to read everything in the battlegrounds (or even close to it), but there was something about his writing that just kept me reading it, wanting more. I look forward to reading more of his stuff and can see him going far at TRF.

Many, many kudos to Smarts.

Damn, that's some Showcase! This, ladies and gentlemen, is what TRF is all about - some damn fine writing. I think the sheer number of nominees, votes, and mentions for this Showcase are a testament to the caliber of our collective writing.

Congratulations winners and honorable runner ups. Like the Miss Universe pageant, if our winners fail to perform their duties, you are responsible for taking their places and performing said duties.

:D
Authors, participants and readers of these threads are welcome to post their thoughts on what they liked, where the story came from, if it relates to anything in real life, or if you have a question about a story...
I'll start with the two I had a hand in...

Storm Warning started taking shape a long time ago, between a desire to explore Bhindi Drayson's past, to resolve some unexplored plot lines, and to write what I modestly describe as an 'epic'. Storm Warning is part of a trilogy, and I hope that those reading will enjoy the following installments as much as I've been enjoying writing them.

Hunters & Gatherers began as a simple (by TNO standards) plot to test the skills of one of TRF's upstart fleeters, Corise. And while the thread did not go strictly as planned (as fleet threads rarely do), I have to admit the caliber of the writing on both sides has been exemplary. I was honestly shocked to see this thread nominated, as it has fallen far from its initial purposes, but it is an interesting encounter between several of TRF's predominate fleet roleplayers nonetheless.

What You Leave Behind and Evolution - what is there to be said about Omnae that has not already be written? The man (at least, we think he's a man, but definitive proof remains scarce, and conspiracy theories abound that Omnae is, in fact, the amalgamated works of one thousand monkeys typing at one thousand typewriters) is perhaps the greatest writer on TRF at the moment. One need only mention 'Endgame' or 'Conquest' to know the awesomeness of Om's writing. That aside, Evolution and WYLB are too of my favorite threads on TRF at this moment. Evolution because the examination of God and the galaxy is fascinating and disturbing (who would seek to kill a God?), and WYLB because, as of now, it leaves the reader wondering (simply) WTF, mate?

The End of Law... I'm not sure what to say about this one, other than that I read it and really liked it. The setting is Old West, with a Star Wars twist, and the subject is a nice refresh from the galactic power struggles that dominate the rest of the Showcase.

The Moot: Sons of Corellia. Gandalf the Grey once said to Aragon, Son of Arathorn, "the defenses have to hold!" Granted, that was in reference to Helm's Deep and a totally different world from Star Wars, but if I may draw a comparison to Helm's Deep in relativity to the Rohan as Corellia is to the Empire, the same might be true of that planet. The defenses have to hold. And the Union, through a new terrorist subgroup known as the "Sons of Corellia", will soon be giving those defenses a run for their money. I look forward to seeing what the future has in store for the Sons.
