Good Morning Vietnam! - [spam, registration]
I'm back baby. First things first. Due to the spam issues we are experiencing, I'm taking some temporary action.
- New user registration is closed. If you need a new nick for a post, either PM an Admin or post here and they can create one for you. We have been experiencing 50 to 100 new user registrations per day, while (statistically speaking) none of them are legit.
- I will be purging our users list. We have a lot of spam users in the system, I will be trying to remove these while maintaining legit users. If you lose an account PM an Admin or post here to have it recreated.
- I will be purging the entire New Users forum. I skimmed through it quickly, it appears to be just a ton of spam. No need for us to serve up spam content to whomever whishes.
- Note From Ahnk: If you're a new person reading this thread, and want to create a new account for TRF, send an email to me. My email is makesyouaweapon at gmail dot com. Put "The Rebel Faction" in the header and I'll know it's a legitimate email, and I'll set you up an account with the details you provide. I'll need your Desired Username and the email you want on the account. I'll set it up with a dummy password, which you can then change later.

Hey, so I was hoping to create a new account for the character I posted earlier (provided that character is approved). Is that still possible?

If you remove email confirmation from your requirements, all new registrants will be put into the "new registrations" pool, from which you can select "delete all" and then carefully scroll through for what looks like legit members, and select "ignore" until they post. That's what we do. Email confirmation was killing us because you have to delete them one by one when they go into that mod queue.
I know you guys had a different system but it looks like it was a similar burden.

Update: The user list has been expunged. We went back down to ~1500 users (from somewhere around 30k I think). I think some legit 0 or 1 post alts were killed in my last delete, however none of them had been used since 2007, so I'm not going to cry about it too much.

Well, apologies to those waiting Alts to be registered, and any new users, but you'll have to have a word with one of us, and we can get you sorted out.
I think you'll all agree the spam situation is getting beyond ridiculous.
