Vance wasn't hit by his own Force Lightning...
I might remind you that more than a few Sith have retained their 'looks', as it were. Darth Bane, for example, and Exar Kun. Not to mention the majority of the comic Sith from the Cade Skywalker comic-verse.
Besides, Hyfe is actually using an image of Palpatine, so that doesn't count. It's from a wallpaper, which shows many Sith (including ones not deformed). So I think Palpatine is the exception, rather than the rule.
As for the charming disarming grin... well, yes. That also ties into his history, where he used his looks and mannerisms to bring light siders to the dark side back on TGC.
It happened more often than you think, I might add, and to actual PCs.

It was not how I see Silk. It's how I saw that Vance drew Silk (and Vance himself for that matter). Not knocking his talent because those avatars are darn good. But they made me smile.
Chiseled good looks, flawless skin, and, with Vance, a charming/disarming grin.
These are the guys who flaunt Dark Side powers akin to Palpatine who, when he used them, was transformed into the elephant man. It's like every Sith baddy on TRF knows how to use the powers AND retain their good looks making Palpatine a mediocre Sith at best and an ugly mo' fo' at that!
So, yeah, cute Thumper came to mind.

It wasn't funny until I realized that I'm not the only one who sees Silk, supposed Sith-badass, as a fluffy (and adorable) bunny.
