Ok. What I did was set the stage for the ground attack.
I moved the post two hours after Kach's last post, allowing enough time for troops to be landed on the surface and things to begin rolling. It is safe to assume that all preparations for an offensive were already made - -the Empire, as a militant society, would be loathe not to have planned for such a contignency and then executed its preparations thereto.
So - we did thus:
1 - Landed elements of the 450th Panzergrenadier Division (3 Grenadier Rgt, 1 Panzer Bttl, misc support units) and an addition FAC brigade. Given the limited shuttling capacity of drop ships and such, only a portion has been landed. A command post has been set up/is being set up in a manor house (think French chateau) distant to the capital.
2 - A Regiment of Grenadiers is currently-en route to the capital and will take it, probably by storm, when it arrives.
3 - Following plan, military installations of the native defenders have been engaged or had surrender demanded of them. In some cases it has been one, in some the other.
4 - When orders were given for the seziure of the planet by force, this special operations team was given its own orders to seize the president. It is safe to say I think that they have been in palce for some time. Indeed they did meet resistance and indeed several of the team members were killed. In order to avoid the crowd and called defenses, the team's survivors and the president were air-lifted away.
5a - Wes, simultaneously, took the President's family into custody. The actions of the first landings, the president's seizure, and the family's kidnapping, all happened at the same time. Quite standard procedure, I would wager.
5b - I did my best to rp the taking with as juch fairness as possible but I admit, it was my first time writing such a small-unit action.
Historical Note - -the attack was rather whirlwind style, but not without a precedent in our own history. When the German Army began its assault on Poland, orders went out to marshalled units which then seized targets in record time. The German Navy shelled a fortress in Danzig and eliminated it while special detachments seized bridges and bunkers and crossroads, taking some by suprise. Some resisted, some surrendered.
Secondly, the seizure of Admrial Horthy's son was effected within one hour of the receiving of the order, in circumstances not unlike the ones I described. Admiral Horthy, btw, was the leader of Hungary during the war. His son was taken by Otto Skorzeny and his men to assure the continued support of the Hungarian government. Though, instead of a plane, he was rushed to waiting motors which were intercepted by a company of Panzergrenadiers mounted in Sd kfz 251,s about ten miles away and guarded.
The reason I had your troops fire at the TIEs because I knew they would have found out about the Imeprial assault and would thus seek revenge. They would know their shots would be harmless but would fire out of frustratrion. I did so out of a realism desire, not to alienate you. I know I would have rped Imperial troops doing so if for no other reason than to save face.
Notice - -not every military outpost was surrounded, only some. And my men are distinctly outnumbered but they have the advantage of speed, superior training than the natives, superb equipment, and orbital as well as aerial support. Do not forget that with only fourteen men young Leutnant Erwin Rommel bluffed his hand to receive the surrender of an entire Italian battalion at the end of his explots at Caporetto.
