As they did the massive bulk of the 1,450 meter long ship pushed forward and slowly slid to port. Its blackened wedge shape turned towards the asteroid field and moving closer. From all respects the ship looked to be a shortened Imperial Star Destroyer with a missing command tower. This was, however, were all likeness stoped.
The newly completed ship was the pride and joy of the Stellar Enterprises Defense Fleet. She was one of the most advanced and capable ships in the galaxy, but she was built for defense and not attack. Her sophisticated sensors reached deep into the asteroid field, far beyond anything capable by other military powers. She was also recieving data from the four EagleEye drones that had just been launched.
The Paramount was now well on her way of mapping the whole asteroid field. Powerful computer banks inside the ship processed all the information they recieved and plotted detailed maps that would later be used by the miners that would inhabit this field. These maps were not just about mining, however. They were going to be used for a specific search operations.
These new maps would be compared to older ones purchased at a high price. The older chats and details were from the Galactic Civil War times. Back then the Rebel Alliance called these asteroids home. That was until the Empire found its location. A great battle had been fought here and against great odds that Alliance had emerged victorious.
They did, however, have to evacuate the vacinity and it was hoped that perhaps they had left their base intact somewhat. That find would save the corporation a lot of money it would have needed to spend for a new base facility. If this old Rebel base was still here and was located it could be quickly upgraded and used as a base of operations for this sector.
As the large ship slowly moved along the edge of the field its hanger once more buzzed with movement. This time three more drones flew out and quickly turned towards the asteroid field. All three moved inside it to inspect likely locations. These were newer model drones upgraded for asteroid surveillance. They had more maneuvering thrusters and a faster reacting computer system that would lead them out of harms way while monitoring all the asteroid threats in the area.
As one of the drones flew deeper inside the field its sensors picked up metallic debris in a large dispersed cloud. It was a wonder they hadn't been collided with after so many years. The location was maked inside the Star Cruiser as the drone proceeded on with its mission. The location would be examined thoroughly later on by engineers.
Flying over one of the large asteroid close to the possible battlefield, one of the drones opened up a small hatch and ejected a small star shaped objected. It fell in the light gravity and settled on the surface, kicking up some dust. As it settled, four sharp spikes fired off from the sides and dug into the asteroids surface, anchoring the thing in place. The top of the starshape suddenly flashed red and fired a beem into the black sky.
The beem started to combine with different colors from a colorwheel inside the object and formed into the color of a flame. Just like a flame it started to flicked slowly and stayed lit. On the casing of the star was a plate and an engraving, "Maybe you rest in peace and may the force be with you."
It was an eternal light that tired to honor the brave men that had fought and died inside the Silken Asteroid Field.
