The Rebel Faction

Admiral Kraken was standing on the bridge of the flagship, the Star Destroyer Victorious, when the starlines faded, and the Imperial fleet emerged near the world of Ando. The world itself was some distance away, with the GC defensive mines looking like orbiting dust coulds from this distance. The Imperial squadrons formed up, and the fleet moved very slowly, waiting to see what opposition they would face in the way of enemy. The fighters launched, and formed up around the captial warships, and the whole fleet manuevered for inevitable battle.

IC: The manuever by the Galatic Coalition fleet caught the Imperial ships by suprise, but the suprise quickly faded, and was replaced by anger, and determination. The Imperial warships, and starfighters quickly rallied, and orders were immediatly issued. All the starfighers equipped with torpedoes immediatly fired them at one of the Imperial class Star Destroyer in the enemy formation, a total of two hundred and forty proton torpedoes were now in route to the enemy star destroyed. The Defenders wheeled about then, and targeted another Star Destroyer, firing another two hundred and forty proton torpedoes at them. Now, with each Defender having two torpedoes left, they, and the TIE Devils, engaged the enemy starfighters. The Fire class Light Frigate also added her anti-starfighter cannons to the starfighter engagment, targeting any enemy bombers, and starfighters.

As for the Imperial captial warships, however, their manuever was far more effective. They all pulled a turn to starboard, or port, about half and half for each direction, brining all their weapons on one side to bear at the enemy warships, while the enemy ships could only bring weapons on their bows to fire on the Imperial warships. The Imperial warships chose the two Imperial class Star Destroyers that were not under assault by the starfighters as the target for their massed turbolaser fire, while they concentrated all their ion cannons, and half their missiles upon on two MC-90s. Forty Heavy Turbolaser Batteries, and Cannons, plus one hundred Medium Turbolaser cannons fired on one Star Destroyer each. 30 Heavy Ion Batteries, 40 Medium Ion cannons all focused their fire on two enemy MC-90 cruisers, scattered ion cannon energy all along their length. Then, the Victory class Star Destroyer Black Widow, and the two Illustrious Fast Attack cruisers loaded their missile tubes, preparing some eighty concussion missiles, and ninety six proton torpedoes for a deadly barrage.

In the meantime, during the Imperial response with weapons, the Imperial response with engineering and special systems came into play. The Illustrious Fast Attack Cruisers bled engine power into their shields, reducing their maximum speed by 60%, in order to restore their shields to 110%. The Reign class Star Destroyer, and the Victory class Star Destroyers, while not having the awesome power rerouting capabilities of the Fast Attack Cruisers, still possessed the ability to reinforce one set of shields from shields elsewhere. And so it went, lowering the shields on the side away from the enemy, leaving just enough to deal with an enemy attack, and sending that power into the hurt shields, for the most part, repairing them. And the smaller ships did what they could to repair themselkves.

The Imperial fleet, formed into a single line of battle when they crossed the enemy "T", were now headed out, away from Ando, and Admiral Kraken intended to keep it that way.

"Have the Cobra detach from the main formation to assist the two Constrainer class Pickets in dealing with the enemy pickets, and gunboats. Python will move to screen the two Illustrious cruisers from the incoming missiles. Have four squadrons of our starfighters break off from the current engagement, and assist Python in dealing with the incoming missiles. Same goes for the two Fire class Light Frigates. Have the Black Widow, and the Inexorable, and Indefatigable launch all of their missiles, and torpedoes, targeting the damaged Star Destroyer on their right side of the formation. All the fleet's ion cannons will also target this Star Destroyer, and reduce it's anti-missile capabilities before the torpedoes hit. The fleet's heavy turbolaser batteries, and cannons, along with the medium turbolaser batteries, and cannons will target and eliminate a single gunship at a time. Finally, any leftover weapons will be used to target gunships as well. Keep us on our current vector, and prepare the ship's for hyperspace, calculating course to Vladet. Finally, transfer power from weapons that cannot acquire targeting locks due to their firing arcs into the shields on all the ships." ordered Admiral Kraken.

The Cobra detached from the Imperial formation, and used her turbolaser batteries, and ion cannons to deal swift destruction to the captured Interdiction Picket renamed Freedom. Also taken under fire by the Interdiction picket she faced, she was quickly overwhelmed by the firepower. At the same time, the Medium turbolaser cannons on the Cobra, as well as the ten double laser cannons aboard the other Interdiction Picket, dealt death to the Sentinel Assault shuttles coming against her. Three were destroyed outright, and one more was damaged. The two Constrainer Pickets both recieved light to moderate damage in return.

Meanwhile, in soared some six hundred or more enemy torpedoes, and missiles, three hundred of each targeting one Illustrious Fast Attack Cruiser. First, they met resistance in the way of four squadrons worth of TIE Defenders, the fighters using their numerous laser, and ion cannons to good effect, destroying some one hundred missiles before the remainder sped past the fighters. Then the two Fire class Light Frigates sped in, using their sixty quad laser cannons to excellent effect, destroying another two hundred and seventy missiles before they were past that obstacle as well. Then, in a sudden move, the Python deaccelerated, while the two Illustrious cruisers accelerated slightly, placing the Victory Star Destroyer Mark II in the path of the missiles. Two hundred concussion missiles, and proton torpedoes slammed into the starboard side of the Victory Duece, overwhelming the reinforced shields, and peppering the hull with explosions. The Victory Duece was badly hurt, but by no means was out of the fight. Finally, the last forty or so torpedoes, and missiles looped around the Victory Duece to strike the two Illustrious Cruisers, lowering their shield power by 15% apiece, thanks to the efforts of so many ships to prevent the full weight of the missile from striking them.

Now, it was time for retribution. The Victory Star Destroyer Black Widow launched all eighty of her missiles, and the two Illustrious Fast Attack Cruisers, Inexorable, and Indefatigable, each launched forty eight proton torpedoes. The combined one hundred and eighty six captial ship grade proton torpedoes, and missiles arced in torwards their target. Then, the crippling force of over one hundred ion cannons, some heavy grade, most medium, met the Star Destroyer that had been targeted by the missile salvo. Ion energy skittered over the entire surface of the Star Destroyer, disabling systems, and causing small and isolated fires to break out. Also, the Command tower was also hit, and the bridge controls suffered terribly. The only systems that didn't suffer were the hangar bay, and the propulsion. Then, the turbolasers on most of the fleet's vessels roared to life, some one hundred cannons, medium, and heavy, lanced out, seeking one gunship at a time. The power and concentration of the fire was so great that one salvo was all that was needed to heavily damage a single gunship. In this manner five gunships were quickly reduced to crippled, burning wrecks. The laser cannons, and other weapons that hadn't been previously employed now were, lancing out and striking various other defender gunships. Finally, the fleet's TIE Defenders that hadn't left to engage the missiles were again on the offensive, using their last two torpedoes apiece to score gruesome kills against the enemy fighters.

Kraken watched with grimly as the enemy Star Destroyer interposed itself between the partially disabled Destroyer, and the missile salvo, destroying most of the missiles before they slammed into the brave destroyer with it's intact elite missile system. And Admiral Kraken had had enough of this.

"Sir, the Constrainer, and Stellar Web have been destroyed by the enemy ships. The Python and the Cobra are both heavily damaged, and the shields on our other ships are failing. Our hyperspace course is set, sir." said the aide.

"All ships, this is Admiral Kraken. Concentrate all firepower on those five heavily damaged Defender Gunships until they are destroyed, then flee the system, with the exception of the Python, Cobra, and Victorious. I want these ships to jump immediatly." ordered Admiral Kraken.

The Victorious shuddered as she began to move forward, and Admiral Kraken watched as the enemy missiles began to impact his ship, and for the first time Kraken began to regret shunting power from engines into shields. Damn, I should have used the non-essintal systems. What a fool I have been. Well, at least you have the chance to learn from your mistakes. And the consequences of making mistakes on his part became painfully clear to Kraken as the enemy firepower ripped into the midsection of Python as she began her run to hyperspace. The reactor core could handle no more, and began to fluctuate wildly. Her portside engines shut down, and she swung off course, then the reactor blew, blowing the ship apart. In her final death, though, the Python sacraficed itself for something greater, as pieces of her flew in between the Victorious, and enemy fleet, eliminating many of the missiles that would have finished off the Reign.

Then, the Victorious was gone, followed shortly by the Cobra. The Black Widow, and the two Illustrious Cruisers stayed just a little longer, exacting revenge for the Python, braving the enemy fleet's fire with their recently reinforced shields. One by one, the five Defender Gunships that had been badly mauled not so long ago succumbed to the fire of these three mighty ships. Then they were gone, leaving the two Strike Cruisers, and Belarus cruisers to lay down covering fire, taking a minimal to moderate amount of hull damage as they covered the escape of the FCLFs, which had recovered the remaining fighters. Then, the Strike Cruisers, and Belarus Medium Cruisers shot forth, and they too were gone, scantly three minutes after Admiral Kraken had issued his last set of orders for this engagement, marking the end of the campaign against Ando.
