The Colonel of the Galactic Coalition, Frakutsk the Gungan Jedi, stood on the bridge of the Colonization ship.
“Sir” Said the navigator, who was an average Human, “We are approaching Mnedo 4, and we should be getting readings any moment.”
“Very good!” Exclaimed Frakutsk. A few seconds later, a very good quality digital picture came onto Frakutsk’s data pad. The gungan saw an oceanic planet, scattered with islands of varying size. Frakutsk pushed a button, and the planet’s details came onto the screen.
Name: Mnedo 4
Star: Mnedo Major, Yellow Dwarf.
Moons: Luna-Mnedo, Luna-Mnedo minor
Intelligent life: Mnedians: Medium to Small, Four-legged.
Unintelligent life: Various small mammals, mostly herbivorous.
Planet Size: Large
Surface: 82% Salt water, 3% Fresh water, 15% Land, islands formed by erupting volcanoes.
The Gungan nodded and smiled. He only hoped that the primitive Mnedians would cooperate. The Gungan did NOT want to fight
Frakutsk addressed his navigator, “Yousa find uninhabited isle. Wesa no wanna surprise innocent Mnedys”
“Yes sir” said the obedient navigator.
Frakutsk sat down on his command chair. The planet he hoped to colonize seemed perfect, but the gungan knew better than to think everything would go smoothly. He planed to begin by contacting the Mnedians (or Mnedys as he called them) in person. His first challenge would be to break the language barrier. Even recent technology could not instantly learn to translate any language, that is impossible. However, with the translating headsets that the colonizers had, this would probably not pose uch of a problem. The Gungan sat on the bridge for what seemed to be a very long time, but was literally only a couple of minutes. Finnally, the Gungan’s colonization vessel entered Mnedo’s atmosphere
The navigator stated the obvious, “Now entering Mnedo 4’s atmosphere, landing on small isle near the equator, sir”
“Goodsa” replied Frakutsk. A short while later, the large, metal ship landed on the island. Frakutsk pushed a button on his command chair, and messaged the whole ship.
“Hellosa every one! Wesa have arrived on da planet, but wesa must first talk to Mnedians, stay insa ship and keep comferable”
The message sounded fairly humorous, the way the Gungan phrased it, he didn’t sound formal… at all, but he meant every word he said, and everyone on the ship knew to take him seriously.
Frakutsk stoop up and left the bridge, calling his navigator to come with him. They went out of the ship and onto the surface. The island they were now standing on was overgrown with wild life. Large trees at least 300 ft. tall towered above Frakutsk and his navigator. A small mouse-like creature with the arms and legs of a monkey scampered up a tree to the Gungan’s left. A furred snake sat… barking… at them from the branches of another. The Gungan and the navigator slowly approached the water speeder that was waiting for them. They stepped into the water speeder. It took off for a nearby island.
They reached the island in roughly ten minutes, and the first thing they saw was a large, Monkey-like creature without fur, wearing clothes of brown leather on a tree. It looked at them with horror and then scampered away.
“Come backsa!” Yelled Frakutsk, but there was no answer. As Frakutsk and his navigator traveled farther into the overgrown forest, they discussed this… monkey.
“Sir, do you think that could be the intelligent species of this planet?” Questioned the navigator.
“Yesa, dey could be, but if so, den oursa scanners have very strange idea of four legged. Mesa would say four armed” Replied the Gungan.
“It certainly didn’t look very intelligent to me, sir” Stated the navigator.
“Mesa either” agreed Frakutsk, “But itsa have to be, it wear clothes, and see us, and react. Theysa are not very advance, mesa plan to offer dem much technology for cooperating with the Galactic Coalition”
“A wise plan sir, who could not resist the temptation of being jumped far into the future?”
“Exactly.” Said Frakutsk, smiling.
Frakutsk and his Navigator walked for a few more minutes and then reached a long, thin, curved clearing. They could only assume that it continued to curve, and was a full circle. Following the clearing were trees, but they seemed to be uniformly spread out, with roughly 10 feet between each one. The branches of the trees were all touching at the tips, but they did not over lap. The trunks of the trees had an impressive diameter of 6 feet, and were extremely tall. Frakutsk looked up the trunk of the nearest tree and saw a hole, about 4 feet wide, carved into one of the trees about 50 feet up the trunk. The tree must have been hollow. Frakutsk looked up another tree, and another, and another, and soon figured out that all of the trees had similar holes in them.
“Could these be their homes?” Asked the navigator.
“Mesa think so” replied the Gungan, though he was not sure, he did think that these were their homes, otherwise why would they be made so uniformistically.
“Mesa will knock.” said the Gungan, as he walked up to one of the trees and knocked on it.
A Monkey-like furless creature, who was wearing clothing of brown leather, stepped out from a hole above the gungan. It very much resembled the creature who had ran away from them before.
“Arghgaloco yoonootoo floppertop?!?!” Yelled the creature, who Frakutsk could only assume was a Mnedian, who was speaking Mnedish. The Mnedian pointed a long piece of metal that sharpened to point at the end at the Gungan, could this be some primitive form of a blaster? The creature waved the stick at Frakutsk. Being a Jedi, the Gungan whipped out his light saber and deflected the white laser that had come out of the metal stick. Frakutsk doubted that the primitive laser could have done much damage, but the fact that it was a laser at all meant that the creatures were more advanced than they had predicted, at least in the field of offensive weapons.
The Mnedian looked at Frakutsk in shock, it did not know how Frakutsk could have deflected the blast. The Mnedians knew nothing of the force. The Mnedian Shrieked and darted back inside its tree. The translation computer the gungan carried was already learning something; it now thought “Arghgaloco yoonootoo floppertop” meant, “Who are you?” Not that this was necessarily accurate; the creature could have been saying something completely different.
“Well, that was not exactly a productive exchange, I hope all of these creatures do not respond this way to us.” Said the navigator, again stating the obvious.
“Mesa also!” Replied the Gungan.
Frakutsk and the Human navigator walked farther into the village of the Mnedians, some of the trees had things hanging outside, such as the brown leather that the Mnedians had been wearing, and poles resembling the one that had shot the white laser at Frakutsk. As Frakutsk and his navigator were walking, they noticed the trees were getting bigger, possibly housing for the more wealthy? They could not be sure. After they had been walking for what seemed to be quite a long time, they reached a very, very large tree, Frakutsk hoped that this was the home of the leader...
