It has stimulated me to study the Hashshashin, a sect of radical, free-thinking, exteremists. Believed to be the first Assassins documented by history, under Hasan-i Sabah they established a stronghold at Alamut that held until the Mongols destroyed it in 1256 (I believe). They are even known to have confronted Saladin and made attempts on his life.
