well the Celts and Picts all built burial mounds in Europe, so did the early Gauls I think, but they were all rounded on top. I guess you could argue that was because they were more intuned with the sun and moon than any mathematical bits that goes into building a pyramid...
Basically, most of the burial mounds were made of dirt for the most part. There is rock to this pyramid and evidence it was part of a more complex funeral area back in the day. That's what makes it unique because so far nothing like that's been found in Europe.
My guess is some Egyptians came up for vacation and one of them just happened to die from something....
