For a funeral. The son of a close friend of mine died. The boy was 11. He was riding his bike with some friends, went down a hill, had a tumble, and put the handlebar through his stomach. Burst his liver and severed the main artery. He died before the emergency helo could arrive.

I was asked to be a pallbearer. I previously didn't own a suit of any kind, heck, the only black shoes I owned were a pair of beat up Vans. Last time I needed a suit was for a wedding I was in, and then I just mooched off of some friends.

I didn't feel right wearing the thing my mother picked up for me at the used clothing store. It fit me like a bag. It just didn't feel right to wear something so slovenly to the funeral of a little boy that, for a good majority of last summer, thought I was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

So I bought a suit.

A father should never have to burry his son. RIP Daryl Stelman.

I'm sorry to hear that. I was one of the pallbearers at my gramps funeral last november. It won't be an easy thing to do, espically if the boy has a child sized casket instead of the normal full sized one.

Thanks all. The family is doing better, his birth sister as well.

Despite it being a sad occasion, there were some funny parts. My brother said I looked like a villain in my suit. Shaven head, I guess. Only bad guys have bald heads when in a formal suit? My friend Charlie whispered to me, while waiting for the funeral to start "You know, funeral homes, everyone's just dying to get in". You can always count on Charlie for the inappropriate joke.

And then Jessie asked me if I was nervous, and I said I hoped we didn't drop the casket and send the stiff bouncing down the stairs.

Gallows humor. Gotta love it.
