Just wondering what the deal is with international coverage, 'cause our media is saying that the international community is attacking australia as racist. Then again, i hardly expected it on the yank news, you guys don't cover anything not on your little strip of land. Moreso from BBC etc.
Cronulla is a big beach area in the south of sydney.
Basically there have been tensions for years. Lebs would flood from the west to the beaches (not the problem), where they consistantly caused trouble (police call it anti-social behaviour, i call it criminal).
It finally boiled over when a group of lebs bashed 2 skip (anglo-australian) life-savers. There was a big rally, where pretty much everyone got pissed and rowdy, retaliating on anyone of middle eastern descent. The next night, in a suburb up the road, came the retaliatory strike, dozens of carloads of lebs trashing cars and bashing anyone with white skin.
Since then, dozens of SMS's on both sides have been going around organising attacks and counterattacks. Cronulla itself is a police state now, but its spilled over into all the other southern suburbs. A church was burnt down, a few shops smashed along with all the cars etc.
Basically, long simmering tension boiled over, although as far as i know its over. That having been said, this saturday and sunday will be the test, since thats when the final 'call to arms' has been made by all these SMS's, on both sides.
When it gets down to it, its a battle of integration and seperation.
I know i sound biased, but what can i say? I'm a white middle class australian who has been attacked by lebs before, and probably will be again. I haven't bashed, but lets just say without numbers on their side, they're a bunch of bitches. Bloody pack animals...

I've actually been seeing this on our news in the States. What Lup said is basically true, along with the footage that went with it. I found it funny the Aussies where writing slurs and slogans on the beach sand.
